There is no rule. You do it voluntarily based on whether or not you think other people should know to edited. I rarely do it anymore; I think it kind of takes away what you were going to say. But sometimes it's good like say:

EDIT: Yay, 1328 posts! Important number, y'know.

That really wasn't an edit, though.

Opinions, yes, firm views, no. Opinions got be my karma, and firm views did also (ie. not easily saying, "Oh, yeah, sure, everyone should vote for Kerry!").

Oh, and tithing is a good thing. Good for missions, you know (err... ahem... I mean saving little black African kids).

Hugo's a good game, but I still can't get the bolt off the trapdoor on the floor of the dog room after somebody kindly told me how to keep the dumb dog interested. Hugo 2 and 3 have similarly stumped me, so I've all but given up.

You ever been rock climbing, VCH? To the top of your cliff? That looks like a fun place to live, BtW. We only get about 15 inches of rain per year; looks like you get quite a bit more.

Okay, I'm not saying that fat people are necesarily ugly, but mostly that calling someone fat and ugly may be more insulting that fat or ugly by themselves.

While fat people aren't necessarily ugly, ugly people are usually fat. Or skinny. Or a gangster or gangster wanna-be.

Spring - Eh, his browser might work different. Remember we're seeing these as images according to what they look like on the computer of the poster.

But man, I like that! Custom title, 5 star karma, 20k+ posts... 2008 too, I don't know if I want to skip to then all of the sudden, though. I'd already be graduated from high school!

Needless to say, mine was more realistic than invisible's, even if it wasn't realistic in the first place. No offense, though. ;)

Yeah, but I could easily change to 5 stars, but to change to 6 stars I'd have to make a whole new image, which wouldn't be too hard, I guess. :/

Yeah, you always want to save it, so you'll have a copy that you can refer to later without redownloading.

As for the timing out, you may want to use some kind of downloading program that will save your progress and continue as soon as it can reconnect. Most of these programs are also download accelerators, which are rather hard on the servers, but at least you'll get the files. Others may say not to do it, though.

Anyway, for those purposes, I use Star Downloader. It seems to work fairly well.

Whatever you do, don't hit a girl! It's an offense against human nature.

Insulting doesn't yield good results, either, especially if the word "ugly" is used. :P

Originally written by Smoked Salmon:

Coal, is a highly profitably extractive substance due to the large volume of coal to tailings. It also tends to exist near the surface and reclamation is easily accomplished since there are no toxic byproducts from mining.
On the other hand, trace and precious metal mining, such as found in Montana, is extremely dangerous to the environment. First let me say it is also the least likely to make you rich, compared to coal or oil. Tailing to ore ratios are on the order of 400:1 for copper mining and 5,000,000:1 for gold mines. So there are huge amounts of toxic waste materials. As rain and melted snow perc through that waste, out leaches all those heavy metals that weren't wanted by the mining company. Of course the ore is also processed on site, typically with cyanide, which stays in the waste ore in a pit. Forever.
So not to point fingers, as no one here (I assume) is responsible for the Anaconda Mine or was a director of Pegasus Gold, but environmental damage can be very real and insidious. It causes long-term (read 20,000 years) damages to the surrounding area and inhabitants.
I know I wouldn't want to live downstream from an abandoned heap-leach mine. It'd make me go dumb.

Yeah, well, us Montanans are very proud of our mining history. Take for example the Berkeley Pit in Butte, a huge open-pit copper mine like a mile across. Absolutely huge. Now? Filled 2/3 of the way with water so acidic (pH 2.5) that they do all they can to keep from killing birds with the water. :P

Bad for the environment, bad for looks, good for hisorical sights. I don't live in Butte though, and I'm pretty happy with that. Way too hilly.
