No, the Koran is what Allah says.

Note that the Old Testament is the word of God. The New Testament is the word of humans. As far as I know, none of it is even written by Jesus himself. It's all secondhand at best.

Both testaments are actually the word of humans, as either testimony from eyewitness accounts, letters, or words coming directly from God or Jesus.

—Alorael, who recalls that Omlette could provide a fair amount of evidence supporting a global flood. There's also a fair amount against it, too, so take it as you will. Anyway, most of the most spectacular events in the Bible would leave no archaeological evidence anyway. The sun stopping, the parting of the Sea of Reeds, people turning into pillars of salt, and all the rest are all impossible to prove or disprove.

Do you know if there was evidence found directly refuting something said in the Bible? While I agree with you here, it seems that as archaeology and the such progresses, so does evidence for the Bible.

More specifically, does he need to do anything in order to get uncanned, or is his title as permanent as Alorael's absence of a title?

Why is there a constant need amoung some people to post all of these "words" in the first place? What's so hard about refraining from that kind of thing and expressing your complaints, comments, etc. in a more polite and kind way?

Well, if you like posting here because it's fun, it's something to do, and you like the social interaction, I did not say at all that I was against that. That's largely why I post so much here too.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has ever wondered why they're sitting here reading posts instead of doing possibly more productive things. Or maybe this is a pretty productive thing to do.

Technically, you don't pray to the saints; you ask the saints to pray for you. They're holier than you, so the idea is that their prayers will count more than yours would.

Note that saints were just regular people that made us of God's power to do their miracles. They were no more holy that we were. God will hear all prayers, whether they come from a saint or not.

Their religion is not compatible to what God says. They are still acceptable to God, given they turn to him.

Originally written by Drew:
I thought they were the teachings of Jesus. Are we getting a little idolatrous here, Ben?

The teachings of the Bible include the teachings of Jesus.

Anyone of any faith can make the same claims about Christianity. Militant Jews, for example, could loudly assert that Jesus was a false messiah, and that there's no proof he rose again. Where does that put you?

In a position to point out that the Bible itself says that Jesus is the Messiah.

The Bible has also proven to be an incredibly mutable document over the years, and many, many people had a hand in it. When its most recent incarnation was being debated (by men), there was a lot of controversy as to whether the letters of Paul (which are now pretty widely thought not to have all been written by the same person) should even be included. Likewise, the Coptic Gospel of Thomas was in and out, in and out, until finally it was decided (again, by men) not to be included. Did you know about this? Or are you afraid to pull back the layers of the onion too far? If it's the truth, it can't hurt you, right?

I think the books to be included in the Bible were chosen according to the amount of applicable content they contained. For example, if the four gospels had been essentially alike, only one or two would have been included, but each gospel, while talking in the same time period, has its own unique stories and content.

I'm not sure exactly why some books were excluded, but I'm of the disposition that those not included were more of a waste of paper to publish, if you can see what I mean.

---

In simple terms, all three faiths worship the same god, because all three faiths recognize their god as the God of Abraham. That there are so many divisions and sects in each faith just goes to show how imperfect all of them are.

To anyone who believes that his particular version is absolute, and all the rest of us are on a path to hell: how convenient that the absolute truth was right next door to you growing up!

You have a point there, and there are many different forms of Christianity with different requirements and traditions. However, I think many churches get so caught up in these traditions that they lose sight of what Christianity is all about: the only way to get to heaven is to accept Jesus and be made holy by him.

Who knows how many hours us active posters spend on the message boards, and while it may be fun, it is just a message board, and a fragile one at that considering it's running off of UBB. :P

Why do we really spend all this time discussing things, most of them not even close to relevant to anything, with people we'll never see? What motivates us to spend so much time on the message boards, or just the Internet in general? Do we usually have better things to do?

In reality, is all this E-Mail, forums, blogs, etc. a waste of time, or is it all really worth it in the long run?

Just curious to what people think about this kind of thing.

I petition to move this forum right under General and title it "Miscellaneous."

Other than that, I don't see why we need to move this under SubTerra, especially considering that it's more active than SubTerra, but - *sigh* - sure, why not?

Well, I suppose to get the full experience, you should play the games in order, but Jeff stressed that no previous experience from E1 and E2 is needed to play E3, which is true to the most extent.

I though it was grammatically correct to place two spaces after the end of a sentence and the colon, but one space after the comma and semicolon. But I could be wrong.

I regularly put two spaces between my sentences, but UBB may automatically shorten it to one.

Darn goatse.
You think posting goatse is less offensive than what TM said?

Sounds more like you have a personal preference of TGM over TM rather than what they did, IMHO.

I think one count of goatse was less offensive than the countless counts of profanity, perverseness, harassment, and insults issued out by TM over the years. And yet TGM was banned indefinately, while TM will be allowed to come back. Again.

However, I do agree that goatse is bad, strictly against the CoC, and is definate grounds for banning, so I actually shouldn't be saying anything.

Right, and I am listening to science. But why is the universe the way it is now? Why are you and me here? Why is there a universe in the first place? Someone had to make it. I'm not refuting that many scientific theorys are utter bogus because of God and Christianity. I'm just saying that we observe things the way we do because that how God intended them to be.

For now, I'll be content with the assumption that time is the movement from low entropy to high entropy as caused by the Big Bang. (For those of you who think I am deserting my Chritian ideals, I'll say that I believe that the Big Bang happened - God was the one that made it happen.)

But we still have our time - our seconds, our hours, our years - and people age and die, to use a classic analogy, an egg splatters but according to what we've seen cannot unsplatter, and so on. Something must be driving this all to go in that way, or, if I will, driving entropy up.

Some say dark energy and the like of that, but until things like that are discovered, factualized, and experimented with, or conception of the arrow of time will remain a puzzle. At least from our place in our three-dementional universe.

Right. Since most memory comes in units equal to powers of 2, 1024 (2^10) was so close to 1000 that adopting it as a "kilobyte" would make many calculations a lot easier. But when away from the computer and by practical definition, the prefix kili refers to 1000. A kilometer is 1000 meters, a kilogram is 1000 grams, and so on.

You could register two different accounts on two different computers. Eh? :P

I find it interesting how Salmon spelled Stug's name "Stuglaf."

But anyway...many potential voters must have become bored of the time it takes to finally decide anything.
