Yes, it is very wierd to have text in my dreams and on later reflection what I read never usually makes a lot of sense.

EDIT: EEK! The post of the beast! #666!

I have read a bit on the process of thought and have my own hypothesis. I read a convincing argument that thought occurs in pictures. The vast majority of people, if asked and if they thought about it, would respond that they think in pictures.

An example is your living room couch. Think about your couch and describe it to yourself in detail. Did you picture in your mind an image of your couch and then from this visualization notice characteristics? Or did you just think the words, "blue", "three cushions", "creases here and here"?

Most would say they summoned to mind an image and then mentally reviewed it to determine their description. However, I found this slightly flawed; what about blind people? They could not possibly think in images if they had never seen one.

Thus, I believe that thought occurs though the frame of reference we most depend upon. If you really thought about you might be able to tell me how your couch felt and smelled, however, with most people, the initial image would only have been visual rather than involving other sensory perceptions. Red Book says he thinks in words, however, what does that mean? Are you visualizing text? Are you "hearing" the words? Both fit in with this.

I am not entirely certain about more abstract ideas that have no physical representation. However, I am also hard pressed to find any such ideas. Love, for example, and other emotions are associated with outward responses and inner sensations of body and effects on thought process. Nervousness is associated often with a sensation in the stomach comparable to having butterflies there. Fear can include the paralyzing effects it can have on the brain and ability to think rationally.

In conclusion, it seems to me that thought occurs in the only frame of reference we have, being sensory perceptions.

I don't really plan on doing anything this year, however I considered being a necromancer. The problem would be that 2 out of 3 people would probably say "what's a necro-whatever?"

I'm not sure if it is more frightening that some one played the game enough to be able to ask an in-depth question or the fact that some one was part-way able to answer it.

Personally, I think Avernum is getting attacked for being a remake a little more than it really should. I couldn't stand the interface of E1-2 and never registered. However I very much enjoyed A1-2 I feel that the remake was a good idea for those two at least. Once he had 1 and 2 he had to make 3, though it may have possible for him to skip BoA.

If he continues the Avernum/Exile plotline well in A4 (which he probably will) A5, 6, 7, etc. could potentially be as fun as anything else he could make. He did well going from 1 to 2 to 3, he probably will do well going to 4. I personally would greatly enjoy seeing more of Ermarian.

I created an English to Vahnatai list that Drakey said he would add to his site, but never did. If you want it just post your e-mail. Or I can post it here if you want.

Now to get around to actually finishing a scenario. :P I may start with a truly tiny scenario just to finally have something.

A quick look at the 93 page user manual and distinctly unfriendly interface have caused to come to the conclusion I will never make a BoA scenario. While BoE can be complex, it is, at least, a heck of a lot easier to use.

My questions: Is BoE dead? If I were to make a small, first-efforts BoE scenario would it be ignored or could I have a reasonable hope of having people play it?

Speaking of Gramplin, to get him to help you clear out the Haunted Ornk Caves he says you need to feed his Oozebeasts, but what do I feed them?

My AIM list appears to include ADoS, Drakefyre, Alec, Morgan, Imban, and a couple others I know belong to these boards, but cannot connect AIM sceen names to Spidweb Screen names. I believe this list came entirely from my time spent in the Arena.

I am Apocalyptic Alex, by the way, for any who are bored, as I am this particular moment.

Jeff's reply:

Thanks for writing! A lot of interesting suggestions.

A lot of these improvements will be in Geneforge 3. I may not have gone in
exactly these directions, but there will be a lot more variety in graphics
and characters. There will be something like crafting, and your backpack
will be bigger. There will be more inventory types.

I don't think you'll be disappointed.

A really late "hi" to WBS and my 2¢ of advice: going on extensively about minor things in not a positive thing.

On a vaugely related note, FBM is right that titles are uncommon. I've been passively trying to get one for years. Though I suppose it is probably the passivity (is that a word?) that has kept me titleless (I don't think that's really a word either) Drakey should tell us when he's in a titling mood so we know when to kiss up to him.

This is the new improved version of the wishlist for easier reading. Also, hopefully Jeff will be more likely to read this than the 10-page, months-long other thread. I will edit this post to update the list as new things are suggested..
---------------------------------------------
Simple Somewhat-Reasonable Things

-Add an "EXITZONE" cheat
-Fire creations get more power
-Include an option for the unlock spell in the locked door dialogue box
-More living tools
-More colors of clothing for your character
-More slots in your pack
-More different weapons
-Helmets
-Different pictures for special items
-More different armor
-Necklaces
-Stealth (spell?)
-Leg armor
-Luck should be more emphasized
-Larger item graphics

Semi-Complicated, but Possible Things

-New low-level creations we can make near the beginning of the game
-Another category of creations
-Male/female graphics for your character
-More creations
-Third tier of creations, getting 6 in that creation opens another form of it you can shape, e.g. Fyora-Cryoa-????
-Class specific skills
-Dual wield weapons
-Primary stats influence other stats
-Hire mercenaries
-Ability to set default attack for the creations with both a melee and missile attack
-Put things into cabinets and things like that
-Better descriptions of items
-Disguises
-Faction should help in battles
-More different animation
-Stunning blow, piercing missile, or critical strike
-Ranks in factions
-Splash damage weapons/spells
-Make mines and turrets
-More stats
-Make an easier selection technique
-Shops replenish supplies/money
-Boats
-Flying creations
-Arenas
-Larger cities
-More sound effects
-More complex opinions
-Advantages/disadvantages like in avernum

Technically Possible, but Unlikely to be Implemented

-Creations should carry things
-Creations should wear things
-Pack mule creation
-Talk to your smart creations
-Charms shouldn't take up any room in your pack
-Items disappear
-Have a home
-Have a storage chest of your own
-Not parry magic/acid balls/fire balls with parry, those need a different skill (magic parry vs. regular parry)
-Sparks when you parry
-Weapon durability
-Creations that can create creations
-Fuse creations
-Make weapons and armor
-Better graphics
-Translucent walls when your character approaches so you can see your character
-Able to shape more powerful creations from the begining of the game
-Life Drain=Take Enemy HP when you hit them and heal you with thier HP
-Cooking skills
-Smithing skills
-Alchemy skills
-Scenario editors
-Archive the custom scenarios
-Music
-Internet play
-Bank
-Money weighs some thing
-Get the skill 'anatomy' back
-Online play
-’Adopted’ creations are talkable
-Character editor
-Finish game without going back to the shaper council
-Play with keyboard
-Trash should rot and be created by people

Suggestions I Didn’t Understand

-Fix obstacles
-No occasionals
-Drayks carry coins without places to put them
-Shield energy
-On guard ability
-Shaper lab
-More ways to get around fights
-Enhance creations with potions
-AI settings
-Mutate creations
-Network support
-Specialize smaller creations
-Different plot
-Balanced difficulty
-’Pin’ notes on map
-Apprentice
-Left/right hand advantages
