Also read the articles in the Scenario Workshop. Take them all with a grain of salt, but they are useful in order to get you thinking. EDIT: here, because it is rather hard to find. Ah, yes, as I suspected. I forgot to include in the readme -- and realized only after you mentioned that it didn't work -- this: "This scenario will only work with BoA apps that run Scenario Format Version 2 (Mac v1.1 or Win v1.0 or better). If you don't have that, download the latest patch from Spiderweb." I use string manipulation in this edition of the HLPM. That will crash Mac BoA v1.0. Get the patch and upgrade. EDIT: Isaac, I might in the future if someone convinces me that exact levels actually matter. Now that I have the level selection working as a "while" call, it's actually somewhat less clunky, code-wise, although it looks the same to players. Actually, come to think of it, I could just check individually if it was 5, 10, etc. I probably will do that for the next version. No one could possibly be changing their name to be similar to Imban's. Such an act would be against the CoC, which specifically forbids imitating another member. This does mean, of course, that any resemblances you see are purely the products of your own hallucinatory mind. GavinFox, interesting thought. I will look into that the next time I do an update. Fineghal, my first guess is that your download was corrupted. Try re-downloading. If that still doesn't work, let me know your operating system and version of BoA that you're using, and specifically what the error messages say. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Rosy, no one can be 13 and look THAT good. SD, no, I have nothing to do either with raving or with anime. Fortunately, I am not that person that you know and dislike. I may well be another person that you know and dislike, though . Thuryl, oddly enough, I get hit on most by gay girls. And middle school girls. Both of whom are just out of my reach. It is a tad frustrating. Oh, and there is one solution to great distances: the wonderful invention called the airplane. -------------------- Kelandon's Pink and Pretty Page!! Shoot. I'll fix that NK0P link when I get real Internet, which should hopefully be in a week. I'm assuming no one is dying to play NK0P, and if they are, just replacing the .sit ending with a .zip should get you the Windows version. This naming thing also will end a little after I get real Internet, which should be in about a week, so get cracking! I want brilliant suggestions! :P -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. If we don't assume that the Gospels were written with the help of God, then looking at them as purely historical documents, they are a bit sketchy. To the best of my knowledge, the earliest fragmentary copies that we have date from something like 110 or 120 CE (AD for the Christians), and we don't have reasonably complete copies until something like sixty years later. These were recopied (several times) from documents written around 50-70 or so, meaning that the earliest fragmentary copies were recopied forty years after the original writing. On top of that, the Gospels describe events that occurred in around the year 30 and earlier, so they originally written at least twenty years after the fact. And also, they were written in Greek, when Jesus spoke Aramaic, and translation is inherently paraphrase. Thus, if we take the Gospels to be the work of humans, there's a lot of room in that history for revision, error, or even at the very minimum, interpretation. Also there are considerations that the Gospels are written as arguments (John, for instance, explicitly says that it was written to convince the reader that Jesus was the Christ) and were at minimum written by biased sources, as well as, I'm sure, other issues, too. By that logic, we know very little about Jesus except that he was a reformer of some kind of the religio-political systems in place in his region at the time. The madman-liar-prophet argument doesn't completely work. Moreover, using such a loaded word as "madman" is probably the wrong way to go. Being mistaken would probably be a better way to describe the issue (and here I am referring to the logic presented in the book of that name, which is, I assume, your source for this reasoning). This guy will always be Mr. Sax to me, because of the fun I can have with that name. Mr ooo ooo rub my saxy body, while your sliths may not be bossed around by the gay Exiles (of which there are a few, Elspeth and Nance being the two that come to mind), I rather think that the rest might have a chance. And I don't know where you got the gay Character Editor, but the regular one will do just fine, too. I am, of course, assuming that you meant the word "gay" literally. If you meant it as a pejorative, then you are a prejudiced fool, and you are part of a mindset that has tortured millions of human beings needlessly over the course of history, which of course would be something I would never believe of someone as soft-spoken, kind, and gentle as yourself. Therefore, I must assume that you meant the word literally. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I just updated my page with a few new things. Among them: the HLPM v1.0.2, with a couple of changes. First, the Arena, a place to test out the combat abilities of your newly-made party against monsters of approximately your level, or any other level, for that matter. Second, stronger, easier-to-make god parties (because I know that's what everyone really uses this thing for ;) ). Third, easier-to-use shops, with text bubbles over each shopkeeper describing what they sell. The changes were big enough that I thought about doing a beta, but decided against it at the last minute. My alpha testing was thorough, and there's not too much variety in what you could do here. But if you find a bug, be sure to e-mail me at tomwatts@berkeley.edu. Another new item: a Scripts section, which right now only has some extremely basic (but very useful) scripts. For the truly script-phobic designer, I have some good stuff there. Search-Step and Search-Block bring back a part of the interface from the Avernum Trilogy. Remember how you just had to walk into wheels to use them? Notice how you have to search them now, because of specobj.txt? Well, Search-Block changes that, and Search-Step does much the same thing. There are a couple of others in there too. And finally, I posted my notes from re-playing parts of the Avernum Trilogy. They are still in note form, so they may not make much sense, but they point to some places in the trilogy where you can get historical information about Avernum. Also, I have a naming contest going on over in General. Give me a new name in place of the shabby KWP! (But post it over in General, because I don't need two topics on this.) -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I've had a Blades page for a few months now, but unfortunately, it's been operating under the sad, wimpy title of "Kelandon's Web Page." While KWP has a certain, er, simple charm to it, it doesn't have the oomph of powerhouse Blades pages, like the Lyceum, or the Blazing Blade, or TMU, or even Drakey's page which I will not spell at the current moment. I've tried to come up with something, but I just don't have any good ideas for this. I can't alliterate, because that would give me KKK, and that would be bad. I don't know of anything Latin or Greek that seems appropriate. I just have nothing. So now, I appeal to you. Announcing the Name Kelandon's Web Page Contest! Winner gets a spiffy prize! That is, um, as soon as I think of one. Give me ideas for the name of my web page! If you want to see its content, just click on the link in my sig. Bonus points for anyone who uses the acronym KEL for their name. (Warning: spiffy prize may end up being my eternal gratefulness.) -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Err, didn't abolish any law? Well, arguably, but he changed some practices (see the prior discussion of the Sabbath, etc). Sir David, careful there. I said I found it hard to argue with Dolney's perspective, not that I agreed with it, and I said that based only on his single post that indicated great frustration with religions, Christianity in particular. I feel that frustration. If he hates religions irrationally, then obviously I don't agree with him completely, but that's what I meant. Those couple of passages are interesting. If I remember the article I read correctly, those were the ones explained away as actually against pagan temple practices and pederasty, based on the original Greek, although I can't vouch for that on my own knowledge or as anything more than just a vague recollection. -------------------- Kelandon's Pink and Pretty Page!! Having given it some thought, I think I should amend/clarify what I said earlier. I have never MET a fundie that didn't annoy me. But I have heard of fundamentalist Christians who have been great human beings. There's an argument to be made that Martin Luther King Jr, for instance, was a fundamentalist Christian. So yeah. I know they're out there, even if I haven't met them. Anyone who believes marriage is and should be between a man and a woman want to take on Thuryl's question? It seems like an interesting one, and it's just sort of been sitting there. -------------------- Kelandon's Pink and Pretty Page!! (The home of BoA's HLPM v1.1!) Rate my scenarios!
