It may be enjoyable to flame at Merc, but I have a sinking feeling that he's deriving a lot of pleasure out of getting such a huge response from his simplistic whining.

And if you wanted a high post count, TGM, why didn't you just keep your old account?

I think it would be a good idea to ban him, and banning him may help us move on here. But I highly doubt the administration will ban him. Unlike PE1, Merc (as yet) hasn't done nearly enough to merit being banned.

Probably not a good idea to voice suspicions or make accusations before we know anything for sure...

Which is why we should stop the counter-flaming, ignore Merc entirely, and lock up all of his and PE1's topics.

Like I stated earlier, I think we all ought to stop responding to Mercenary, and only resume conversation with him when and if he cleans up his act and actually starts contributing to the Spidweb community. I understand that the stuff Merc spews aggravates everyone, including myself, but we really should move on. All these flames and counter-flames are getting to be a major distraction. I would suggest again that all of these flamefest topics be locked.

Right now, I am listening to John Lennon's version of "Stand By Me." It is beyond doubt my favorite version of the song.

After this song ends, I will probably listen to a bit more of Lennon, maybe "Watching the Wheels" and "Jealous Guy," and probably "How Do You Sleep" as well. And maybe Simon & Garfunkel's "Scarborough Fair" after that.

It seems that, with all the recent distractions and complaint threads, what this forum truly needs is an entirely new topic. So, I will introduce one.

I'm interested in hearing about the academic preferences of those of us forumers who are of schoolgoing age. Those of you who are in college ( IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards Scholastic Interests1_files/biggrin.gif) ) can talk about your major(s) and any minors, and also about general academic interests. Those of your are in high school, middle school or grade school can just describe your general preferences in academic subjects. All of you can also describe any career ambitions or plans for future study you may have.

I'll start out with myself. I'm a sophomore in college now, and majoring in Integrative Biology. I don't have any other majors or any minors (laggard that I am), but I do have numerous other academic interests. History and English interest me, as do a few other things. I am naturally a jack-of-all-trades-but-master-of-none academically, and though this quality is helpful in high school, it unfortunately seems to be a liability in college. I plan to enter veterinary school after I graduate (provided I can get my GPA up IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards Scholastic Interests1_files/wink.gif) ), and with a whole lot of luck eventually become an exotic animal veterinarian, so I can take great care of Jeff's spider, and keep him happy and making great games.

You are right on the money there, Oracle. I suppose all these flames and counter-flames aren't really accomplishing much. From this point on, Mercenary is dead to me, and I will refuse to acknowledge his existence. We are wasting too much energy on this worm. I would urge everyone else to stop responding to Mercenary, as I will. Responding to his whining gives it a measure of legitimacy, which it hardly deserves. I suggest that all counter-flaming stop, and that all topics started by Mercenary and PE1 be locked. We should all move on and forget about this scumball.

EDIT: I would also suggest that, if Mercenary continues to put up meaningless posts that all say the same thing, he should be either canned or banned, like his alter ego.

Your methods and goals? I'm sorry, but so far all I have seen from you is complaining, and pointless complaining at that. You've made absolutely zero suggestions regarding what must actually be done to improve the boards, choosing instead to lambast them in an exceedingly general manner. If you had come in and said, "Whoah, these boards were once great but now they're not quite as good, but hey, things can be done about it, and I have such and such suggestions, etc." I'm sure your reception here would have been much better. But you chose to act otherwise.

As far as I can see, your methods seem to consist of spamming, flaming, whining, and profanity. I am dumbfounded that you continue to have the gall to claim that you and PE1 are not one and the same. You are nothing but a vengeful, bitter spouter of lies. Leave, before you become even more pitiful of a punching bag.

And I'm sure you have some excellent suggestions regarding how this forum could be improved.

Complaining for the sake of complaining is entirely worthless. If you do indeed have useful ideas about how the forum could be improved, I'm sure that everyone would love to hear about them. But if your only motive in posting is to put the forum down, you have absolutely no business posting.

The first computer games I can recall playing are "Prince of Persia" and "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" However, I can also lucidly recall playing a special type of minesweeper game, called "Saddam's Revenge," I believe. I should dredge up the game from wherever it lies and fire it up again. After all, it is especially relevant to our times IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards What was the first game u played_files/biggrin.gif) . My first Spidweb game was Avernum 3, about one and a half years ago.

I think I have also experienced what you mentioned. Occasionally, most often when I am witnessing a scene which I find strange or important, I get the feeling that I have witnessed the scene at some point in the past. However, I am never exactly certain that I have indeed witnessed it before, and even if I am reasonably confident, I can never pinpoint the time or place of the original vision. Others seem to have experienced such phenomena as well, from what I have heard.

We should make this a part of the annual Mouseketeer graduation ceremony. It would save us from having to listen to so much bad music in the future.

While I do not condone bigotry or hate speech in any form, I have found very little of outright bigotry in this thread so far. Though I am religious as well, I find a civil discussion on religion to be quite all right, as long as it does not degenerate into a mudslinging fest.

I know little of the bigotry you have faced on these boards in the past (I have only been here for less than a month), but it seems to me that, at least in this thread, no outright hate speech has been voiced against Catholicism or any other religion. Perhaps you have acted a bit rashly by terminating your account. Putting up your own opinion on the topic rather than accusing everyone else of being bigots probably would have been a better idea. I would hope and expect that no one here would belittle your beliefs or your religion if you did indeed bring them up here. But if you feel you must leave, then I have no power to force you to stay. I would have liked to know you, but I suppose it's too late. Remember that you can always come back, even if you need to re-register to do so.

There is nothing inherently wrong with being a newbie. I would most emphatically concur with Alorael's statements about the meaning of the term. It is the responsibility and duty of a new member of any respectable organization to pay his dues with that organization. For this board, paying one's dues include answering the questions of others whenever possible, being respectful to all other members, and posting meaningful, insightful, and relevant comments. Those newer members who pay their dues and earn a positive reputation over time will cease to be viewed as one in the endless deluge of newbies, and will ascend to a position of respect in this forum.

In fact, I am at the moment listening to "Baby You're a Rich Man" by the Beatles. I am a huge Beatles fan, so this fits. Though "Baby You're a Rich Man" is not one of my very favorites, it's still quite an enjoyable tune. I used to be an alternative rocker all the way, but the Beatles have converted me somewhat.

All right, all right, all right, I was simply comparing what I found from playing the game compared to what I had expected before playing it. My expectations had, of course, been very low, so I ended up being slightly pleasantly surprised by what I actually found from playing Homeland.

In my humble opinion, though I believe the music from Homeland to be very poor, it still can be classified as music. The same, unfortunately, cannot be said of techno-dance, the true rapist of the meaning of music.

I've also only played the demo, and though I found that the plot, graphics, and music were all quite creditable, the gameplay was singularly frustrating. It was impossible for me to figure out the controls in the least, and the real-time combat drove me to near insanity. There are games that do real-time combat right (Diablo) and those that do it wrong (Homeland).
