I'll do myself on occasion. Other times, I'll just cycle through several message boards, posting occasionally and coming back to answer replies. As I'm only ever bored at college, I'll sometimes leave my room and travel around to the rooms of friends, pestering people for some time. If people have already gathered outside in the hall, I'll go outside and join them. And I'll play old computer game favorites if I have nothing else to do. I used to be on AIM all the time at college, but when it took over my life and sent me into a veritable academic tailspin, I decided to largely swear off it. -------------------- "Let a man find himself, in distinction from others, on top of two wheels with a chain- at least in a poor country like Russia- and his vanity begins to swell out like his tires. Your assumption is correct, of course. It'll be quite a while 'til I can get even a sniff of 4444, but I'm still holding out hope for 4000, even though in order to do so I'll be forced to contend against a whole crowd of you jackanapes. -------------------- Stughalf "Let a man find himself, in distinction from others, on top of two wheels with a chain - at least in a poor country like Russia - and his vanity begins to swell out like his tires. You neglect to mention that myself and my ferrets are gunning for the magic number as well. If, as I expect, I fail, I will seize #4444 as my consolation prize. I believe that aliens exist, but not anywhere close to Earth. The Universe is unfathomably huge, and although several conditions must be met precisely in order for a planet to be capable of supporting life, odds are that there are at least a few other planets in the Universe that do, indeed, contain alien life. -------------------- "Let a man find himself, in distinction from others, on top of two wheels with a chain- at least in a poor country like Russia- and his vanity begins to swell out like his tires. I'm quite sure a very similar topic was introduced recently, but no matter. I would have to go with Goettsch, from Geneforge 1. Although his brand of power mania was revolting to the highest degree, his deceptive friendliness and covert scheming made him a highly intriguing character. -------------------- "Let a man find himself, in distinction from others, on top of two wheels with a chain- at least in a poor country like Russia- and his vanity begins to swell out like his tires. I certainly like it, and have even tried my hand at it a couple of times: In terms of artists I admire, Chris Baker (also known as Fangorn), who paints the cover art for the U.K . versions of Redwall novels, is very high on my list. Troy Howell, who does the cover art for the U.S. versions, is also excellent. Gary Chalk, who has done in-book illustrations for several of the novels, is also a favorite of mine. -------------------- "Let a man find himself, in distinction from others, on top of two wheels with a chain- at least in a poor country like Russia- and his vanity begins to swell out like his tires. I surely did not mean that, and I'm certain that no one besides yourself believed that I did. I was merely interested in distinguishing between the terms, "ethnic group," and "religious group." In general, Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews differ significantly in skin color, as well as other significant racial phenotypic characteristics. And anyone who claims that a Pakistani Muslim is of the same race as an Arab Muslim has been listening to far too much Pakistani propaganda. Indian Hindus and Pakistani Muslims belong in the same ethnic group. It's just that some were converted to Islam when the Muslims invaded and established themselves, while others were not. -------------------- "Let a man find himself, in distinction from others, on top of two wheels with a chain- at least in a poor country like Russia- and his vanity begins to swell out like his tires. Jeff is around, although only very occasionally. Sometime back he posted several times on the BoA board, but since then I haven't seen him post anything. EDIT: And if you were a man attempting to distribute precious time between caring for your baby and single-handedly programming a game with the expectations of thousands on your shoulders, would you still find the time to post on a message board with any semblance of regularity? Muslims are definitely not an ethnic group, and I also feel that Jews aren't either. The Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews are arguably separate ethnic groups, while African Muslims, Arab Muslims, and South Asian (Indian and Pakistani) Muslims easily comprise three distinct ethnic groups. Then there's also the Uyghur Muslims of China, which, while not as large a population, are certainly distinct ethnically. True. I have an old iMac as well, a first generation one, with the G3 processor and a paltry 265 mHz, or something around those lines. I don't plan to install X on my iMac either; I figure I'll be getting a new computer in the next two years or so, and when I do it'll be a new Mac with X. -------------------- "Let a man find himself, in distinction from others, on top of two wheels with a chain- at least in a poor country like Russia- and his vanity begins to swell out like his tires. In terms of melee weapons, I find the scimitar to be the most appealing of all standard weapons, although the Vahnatai waveblades are also high on my list. The most intriguing missile weapon that I have encountered is the Vahnatai razordisk, although the standard bow and arrows do the trick for me as well. With regard to armor, I find gloves to be boring and superfluous, along with boots. Variations in body armor can be very intriguing in some games, such as Diablo, but Spiderweb body armor is rather lackluster. Helmets are essential as protection from head blows, but also can be quite ornate and decorative, making them my favorite piece of armor. Just the usual stuff- a whole lot of lip-synched performances, which I detest, some rather disturbing bondage elements, outlandish sets, P. Diddy wearing the equivalent of 5 foxes around his neck, and an overdose of popular music. And I found the scene which you mentioned to be overdone and anything but sexy. If anything, it inspired no more than a mere shrug of the shoulders. Janet's just not hot, has gotten, predictably, less attractive with age, and, in my estimation, was never attractive in the first place. Luckily, the excitement of the game succeeded in overwhelming the vacuous stupidity of the show. -------------------- "Let a man find himself, in distinction from others, on top of two wheels with a chain- at least in a poor country like Russia- and his vanity begins to swell out like his tires. I don't have anything against the Panthers, but since they're so new in the league I find it very difficult to cheer for them. I was going for the Patriots, although I wouldn't have been upset at all if the Panthers had won. The important thing was that the game was an enthralling one, although the commercials, in the modern trend, left quite a bit to be desired. The halftime show was even more sickening, and after barely five minutes I was forced to leave the room. -------------------- "Let a man find himself, in distinction from others, on top of two wheels with a chain- at least in a poor country like Russia- and his vanity begins to swell out like his tires. Also, many medical schools and other institutions of higher learning are often forced to implement informal quotas with regards to Asians and Indians, as otherwise whites would be a small minority in many medical schools, and there would be barely any black or hispanic med. students at all. Asians and Indians, among others, are termed "privileged minorities" by governmental organizations, meaning that they, justifiably, receive no advantages whatsoever over whites in selection processes. I'm a Hindu, as I've mentioned several times in the past. I was born a Hindu, and admire most aspects of the religion, so I've never had any sort of impulse to convert or give it up. However, considering myself a Hindu does not, in my opinion, require me to believe all that has been written in every section of Hindu religious scripture. Although some take an "all or nothing" approach to religion, I prefer to pour all written in the scriptures into a sort of sieve, taking among my own beliefs only such statements and ideologies that ring true in my mind and heart. As such, I prefer to gloss over much that is written in the Vedas and Upanishads, especially archaic Hindu polytheistic ideas and the hierarchical and unfair caste system. Although the Vedas form the bulk of Hindu scripture, I believe in the much shorter Bhagavad Gita as being the strongest and purest representation of the religion's teachings. In contrast to the drawn-out, rambling, largely superfluous Vedas, the Gita is concise, clear, and delivers valuable moral teachings, focusing on the process to attaining moksha, or even-mindedness. As in modern Hinduism, God is portrayed as being a single, formless being, capable of taking any number of forms if necessary for the purpose of protecting humanity from evil. I believe in a modified version of reincarnation. One's personal spirit, or atman (mentioned by Syntyrael earlier) progresses through as many lives on Earth as necessary to attain even-mindedness. As all atman start out immature and inexperienced, with little moral grounding, they must learn and mature only with time on this earth. All atman are allowed to take a human form as their first, but if an atman lives out a human life filled with sin and degredation, it may be forced to take an animal form as its next. Although an atman cannot ascend to moksha while in animal form, valuable experience and insight is still gained. Living within the body of an animal also makes it far easier for an atman to live sinlessly, and thus all atman will eventually, by virtue of their progress, be allowed more opportunities to attain even-mindedness within the human form. There are, in my understanding, a large, finite number of atman, all at different stages in development and progress. Eventually, all atman will reach the even-minded state and ascend to join the essential, universal spirit, or Brahman. This Brahman is the modern Hindu version of God. Heaven is not any sort of land or domain, in my understanding, but the bliss of unity with Brahman and release from the arduous struggle required to attain this state. The idea of Hell is abhorrent to me, and as such I do not believe in its existence. -------------------- "Let a man find himself, in distinction from others, on top of two wheels with a chain- at least in a poor country like Russia- and his vanity begins to swell out like his tires. I agree; she's really not physically attractive in the least. And as for her supposedly "mysterious" expression, it strikes me as nothing more than vacuous contentedness. Leonardo was a fine artist, but I feel this one has been thoroughly overrated over the years. I find his intricate designs of complex machinery, so far ahead of his time, to be his finest work. His several notable contributions to military technology form yet another feather in his cap.
