Unless you've seen The Sword in the Stone and/or Jungle Book, TM, you may wish to suspend judgement.

Agreed. Nethergate was a superior game to any in the Exile/Avernum trilogies, and a large part of this was due to the keyword system implemented in the game, which allowed, as you mentioned, for the more challenging short-answer questions, as opposed to mindless multiple choice. Why Spidweb chose to switch to the thoroughly vacuous system used in Avernum, I'll never know.

^ Ah, finally a chap with taste! My sentiments exactly. The simple charm present in films like The Sword in the Stone and Jungle Book simply hasn't been equalled in the more dramatic and flashy, but yet strangely empty, newer Disney films.

[curmudgeon]Hrmph. Lion King is NOT classic Disney, in my mind. Neither is Fantasia, Alladin, Beauty and the Beast (ARGH) or any of the other abjectly horrible movies created and marketed towards 7-year old girls in the last seven years or so. Well, perhaps Fantasia was decent, but I heavily disliked the others. The best Disney movie ever made was The Sword and the Stone. Second to that, I would say, would be Robin Hood. Third place goes to Jungle Book, hands down. There are a few other good ones, but those three jump to mind. Ach, all of those are probably far before your time, anyway.[/curmudgeon]

In terms of clean-shaven good looks, yes, he certainly has it going. But nothing, I say nothing, can match the rakish glory of my moustache and goatee combination.

That's me, as well. Being always very shy and discreet around the opposite sex, I have never so much as leered at or firted with a girl. It also doesn't help all that much that I'm a man's man in every way. Nothing I do appeals to women, but I have no problem at all making friends of the same sex. Of course, it's agonizing for me to be entirely unable to flirt or express the attraction I feel around certain women. For the frustration that results, of course, there's always the hand.

My preference lies with Avernum. I just found myself entirely unable to get into Exile, as I found the graphics and interface to be singularly disorienting.

Also, with the removal of area spells, Avernum essentially loses the importance of formations.
Aren't you forgetting the Cloud of Blades spell, Alorael? Or does it work in a different manner compared to the area effect spells in Exile?

Wasn't this already discussed (albeit, not extensively) in the "What Kinds of Girls..." thread? Not to say that we can't have another topic started to discuss the issue, but with so few females on this board relative to males, I have a feeling this one's not going to last all that long.

I believe there is, and it saddens me somewhat, although it probably can't be helped. A few of the threads which I read soon after my arrival have, in the intervening time, been discreetly eliminated.

Well, for those living in warmer and wetter climates, a gecko is infinitely more appealing and less dangerous than either a spider or a bat, and probably comparatively effective, if not more efficient, than the other two.

Eh, MSW, it would be better if you didn't edit all of your posts down to nearly nothing so soon after making them. It makes coming back here after a few hours away so utterly disorienting. I suppose I can assume quite well what manner of statements you made in many of these posts, though, judging by the responses.

I believe he's just referring to his earlier post in the thread, in which he talked about how all the girls he's interested in would most probably like him to plzdiekthnx. He felt the need to point out the fact that he would never touch any girl under 18.

Eliminate old threads? Are you mad? These old threads aren't just garbage, to be tossed aside and forgotten. They provide an invaluable record of the goings-on around here, not just on Spidweb itself, but throughout the entire community. In addition, many of the old threads constitute a veritable treasure trove worth of information and intelligent discussion. And then, of course, there are all the old flame war threads and deliciously random posts, which lend color and humor to the graveyard. If it wasn't for all these old threads lying around, it would have been impossible for me, as well as a few others, in all probability, to make such a speedy integration into this fine community. A board with no old threads is like a high school without a single history class.

Aren't you taking things a bit far? I hate to direct accusations at you even as you announce your departure, but it seems to me that you have been extremely hypersensitive in your time here. Just because a member or two criticize your writing style in RPs, this does not automatically indicate that everyone here wants you gone. You are certainly not nearly as universally disliked as so many other members, yet many of those members continue to post in a regular fashion, sucking up criticisms and ignoring attacks. I feel that you would do well to do the same, rather than taking the slightest bit of criticism directed at you as a sign that there is a sort of cumulative hostility against you on these boards.

Damn.

The purpose of my post was not to request sympathy for being, compared to most, on easy street. I was merely voicing my support for Sarachim's viewpoint, that increasing costs for nearly everything can eat voraciously through even a robust income.

With the way in which costs have increased in so many areas of life in recent years, a $100,000 per-year income really does not make one rich by default. For example, my father makes around $85,000 a year, which would cause most to consider my family to be members of the upper-middle class, at least. However, with the drastic increases in the cost of higher education in recent years, my family has shelled out huge sums of money in order to send my sisters to college and medical school, and myself to college, and eventually, some manner of higher education. Expenses play a huge part in determining one's economic status, and it's unfair to only take salary into account when designating the rich from the middle class.

I believe I've been told, although this could quite easily be a myth, that Hindi possesses more curse words than any other language currently in use. Although I don't know the language myself, my quadrilingual mother does.
