Certainly she can. I'm sure you could as well, especially if the alternative happened to be nicer to look at than a computer screen. The revelation of Samir Duran's treachery in Brood War. quote:I am certainly a Beck fan, but I've never heard that song before. I'll have to check it out. The harmonium has been used in Western music in the past, as well. One notable example is "The Word," by the Beatles, in which George Martin plays the harmonium for a bit. He wasn't well-practiced in the instrument, and it shows in the recording, but the presence of the harmonium is still a nice touch. -------------------- Stughalf "The death-knell of the republic had rung as soon as the active power became lodged in the hands of those who sought, not to do justice to all citizens, rich and poor alike, but to stand for one special class and for its interests as opposed to the interests of others."- Theodore Roosevelt, 1903. quote:I sing, and also play the harmonium, a piano-like instrument with a bellows at its rear. One plays the harmonium using only the right hand, as the left hand is used to pump the bellows to generate wind vibration. The sound produced is a rich and full one, not unlike the sound produced by a pipe organ. Although it is impossible to hold notes indefinitely on a piano, one can do so on a harmonium as long as one continues to pump the bellows. Although the harmonium is a stand-alone instrument, it's most often used to accompany oneself while singing. The tanpura (which is the droning string instrument you mentioned) is not used to accompany individual notes, as the harmonium is, but rather to provide a drone in the background. Its four strings are plucked over and over again, setting the rhythm for the singer, and it is always tuned carefully so as to produce a drone that is in perfect tune with the song. I've played the tanpura before to accompany my singing, but it's rather an awkward instrument to play, as one must seat it on his lap, then wrap his arm around it in order to play correctly. I vastly prefer playing the harmonium, although having someone else play tanpura in the background provides a nice atmospheric drone and improves everything. Complex string instruments such as the sitar, veena, and others require more attention than do the above two mentioned, and are not used as accompanying instruments. I've never learned how to play any of these instruments. In terms of percussion instruments, I've never played the tabla (the small drums you mentioned), or any other instrument of the kind. I'm assuming you're referring to the quest which involves travelling to Ruined Hall and meeting with the sithe? If so, you need to head some ways West, until you come upon what appears to be a large hut on a raised meadow, surrounded by woods. When you try to travel into the meadow, you'll receive a message from the Crones, characters that will become very important in the story. They'll tell you that you must visit them before you can travel to the Ruined Hall, and they'll provide you with the directions you'll need to reach their hut. After you're done doing a quest at the Crones' hut, you'll finally be able to visit the Ruined Hall. -------------------- Stughalf "Delusion arises from anger. The mind is bewildered by delusion. Why delete the games? That hardly seems necessary. Rather, simply cut off or carefully regulate her internet usage, and there shouldn't be any further problems. ^ You'll get no argument from me... As my older sister is a fine violinist, and has played for almost fifteen years, I have been exposed to a good deal of Classical music. However, I tend to lack the patience to listen to most forms of Western Classical music, although when I am capable of listening to a piece all the way through, I often do like it to a degree. Aram Khatchaturian's "Saber Dance" is my favorite of the pieces I have managed to really listen to. In terms of Hindustani (North Indian) Classical music, however, I am certainly a fan, as well as a practitioner, having taken lessons for about six years. I saw "The Alamo" last night, and, although it was a decent war drama and reasonably moving, it fell quite a bit short of epic status. The movie was evidently designed with the objective of pleasing Texans in mind, as I found it impossible to count on one hand how many times an Alamo defender waxed poetic about the beauty of the Texas landscape, or about the infinite importance of gaining independence for Texas. None of that did much for me. Luckily, the movie was quite well-cast, and larger-than-life figures such as Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie were brought to life with a good degree of believability. Overall, although I did enjoy the film, I found myself wondering, afterwards, whether "Hellboy" would have been more enjoyable. No use whatsoever in wondering about that, though. Thus, such statements as, "the majority is right" or "the majority speaks" are grammatically correct. It's quite true, though, that Eldibs's case is faulty logic at best, and every bit as poor as Eldiran's logic in his earlier post. All this nonsense has gone on for quite enough time. quote:"Support" it? No, I certainly don't believe that it's the way things ought to be. I'm a Communist at heart, as evidenced by my -8, +2 on the Political Compass. Being a born pessimist, though, I highly doubt that such inequalities will ever be eliminated in the U.S. Switching to a PC to force Apple to lower prices would only work if tens of thousands of other Mac users were willing to follow me in doing so. Not only do I lack the charisma and influence to begin such a movement, I don't quite care enough about this issue (or any other issue, for that matter) to bother putting in all that time, money, and energy. I used to think of myself as an idealist, a person who would always strive to right wrongs, in any way he could. That was before I lost any semblance of drive in life, and allowed myself to accept my current fate- a lifetime of passivity and ineffectuality. I don't like to see inequality in the world, but I've allowed myself to accept its presence. Yep, you can remain on the Empire side, as Jaen will accept your apology for the accident quite willingly as long as you don't eliminate the hidden Empire outpost as Stalker requests. I played the game out this way, although at the the end I chose to kill Jaen as well, just to even the score. Thuryl is right, though; remaining with the Empire seems to yield the better ending, at least, and Jaen, while a mindless fanatic, is still far more personable (and grateful!) than the scheming, power-hungry Stalker. I found myself wishing that there was some way to follow a moderate, conciliatory path through the scenario, enlisting the aid of the eminently likeable Lord Brosterman to placate the rebels, install a more fair, less exploitative economic system, and generally revert the Isle back to its times of prosperity and goodwill. But, truthfully, ASR is a better scenario for refusing to allow the player to achieve an unrealistically happy and peaceful resolution to such a brutal and polarizing conflict. True, although I have heard of certain survey results claiming that, on average, Mac users tend to be generally more educated than PC users. That may well be just a matter of cost, though, as Macs tend to be more expensive, and richer families tend to be more capable of obtaining a high-quality education for their children. I don't pretend that Macs are intrinsically superior to PCs in any manner, or even that the price difference between the two platforms is indicative of their relative worth. However, a good many longtime Mac users are quite willing to shell out a bit more cash simply in order to stick with the platform with which they are most comfortable. I am one such Mac user. But yeah, after unstuffing the file and re-entering the scenario, I'm able to view the image in the opening sequence, as well as the graphics for the roses and Hana. I'm still receiving errors in loading guards, but other than that and a couple of spelling errors/typos, everything's fine. -------------------- Stughalf "Delusion arises from anger. I just played through it, and it was very good fun. However, I also received a few error messages, and I was unable to view either Hana's graphic or the graphic for the roses. Error messages regarding guards that failed to load came up at several points as well when entering Ashton. Other than those few bugs, though, it was very nice stuff. -------------------- Stughalf "Delusion arises from anger. The mind is bewildered by delusion. I'd say the most repellent odor I have ever smelled has got to be that produced by burning flesh. Although the circumstances in which I was exposed to this smell weren't all that terrifying (a surgery in a vet clinic, in which I assisted) the raw terror inspired by the smell itself was quite powerful. There's two ways you can do it. One way is to put on the disguising cloaks in one of the side rooms near the platform, then get onto the platform and remove Cathrac's Eye from its pedestal. Attempting to remove one of the other two artifacts will result in your cover being blown, I believe. If you wish to attack Sylak directly rather than removing the Eye, you can do so, and although it's a bit more difficult, if you manage to do him enough damage, you win the game. However, don't expect a very happy ending, although it's the best you'll get playing as the Romans. -------------------- Stughalf "Delusion arises from anger. The mind is bewildered by delusion. Hmm. It seems like you may be confusing the hut of the Three Crones with Hagfen. Hagfen is located far south of the Three Crones' hut, just a little bit east of Hollow Hills, in case you've been there. Hagfen's fortress is surrounded by a large, swampy area, which can be navigated through to obtain the amber. If you visit Selkiehome first, you'll be told to obtain some pelts in Hagfen belonging to slain selkies, which you can do while you're there, as well. -------------------- Stughalf "Delusion arises from anger.
