Ah, highly informative. I'd better copy this onto my computer before the mods edit it out.

Mind translating that for me, TGM? Or anyone else who speaks Finnish, for that matter. I, most unfortunately, do not. :(

I've taken the test in the past, but it seems that since then I've gotten somewhat more leftist economically, and somewhat more authoritarian socially.

I can indeed bring a ferret for you, Apollyon. I'll make sure to bring one of the calmer variety with me, separate from the others. Of course, you'll have to understand that "calmer" is a relative term. :P

And by the way, Apollyon, I might have changed my PDN, but I'm still going by "Stughalf" around here. Please don't refer to me as "ASP," as I won't realize you're talking about me. :)

I will bring myself, as well as a ravenous army of attack ferrets. Will vegetarian items be available as well, for my pristine stomach? I find the prospect of a meal consisting entirely of papayas to rather unfavorable. :P

But of course! What on Earth could make you think otherwise?

And my thanks for some rather helpful suggestions. Luckily, I have not yet sold my Alaskan property, and the Hawaii property can be used for numerous other purposes. In the interests of furthering this purely intellectual discussion, may I inquire as to the numbers of feline guards within your residence? It would also be an excellent help if you could inform me of the quantity, in grams, of skribbane herb in your possession. Thank you, and I look forward to your swift reply.

Meteorites selling in Oak Park? Well, I'm afraid I know nothing about that. But nowadays I'm away the majority of the year, so I'm not exactly in the know as to what's going on. I don't tend to be terribly on top of the news as a rule, though. :P

Hmmm... Well, I really do hate to end all this speculation, as it really is quite entertaining. However, I might as well clear up some gray spaces regarding my identity.

I'm no oldbie in disguise at all, although I'm very flattered that I would be mistaken for one. My name is Anand Narayan Subramanian. I am 19 years old, the son of Indian immigrants. I was born in Forest Park, Illinois, but have spent my last 18 years in the fine town of Oak Park, Illinois. I am a Junior in my second year at the University of Illinois in Champaign Urbana, and am currently on winter break back home in Oak Park.

I discovered this community entirely by accident, and at first existed as the standard newbie, posting questions on the GF2 board, and also answering them on occasion. But this community intrigued and excited me, and I refused to be content to remain entirely invisible around here. As many of you know, I soon began to read up heavily on the history of these boards, and my natural skill at inference aided me greatly in my understanding of the many personalities and dynamics around here. Although I do not consider myself to be a standard newbie anymore, I still feel that I have quite a ways to go before I can be rightfully termed an oldbie. I think of myself as being a somewhat-established member here, although I accept that my disappearance from these boards would not make any huge impact. My swift and thorough integration into this community has been a source of quite a bit of pride to me, but the responsibility for this accomplishment lies as much with all of you as it lies with me. The prevailing attitude of acceptance, friendliness, and tolerance around here is what makes this place exceptional.

Why? in General

In my mind, David, happiness does not have to depend at all on violent, extreme emotional fluxes. The immature among us may rely on physical pleasures and emotional highs to keep us happy, but I feel that there is indeed a higher level of happiness open to us. This higher level is contentment. Contentment is a controlled, stable sort of happiness, subdued yet pervasive. I see this state as being far superior to the temporary and violent nature of physical orgasms and emotional highs. In my understanding, such an advanced state as constant contentment, or even-mindedness, can be attained only through mental, emotional, and physical control and discipline. Faith can aid in the attainment of even-mindedness, but it seems not to be a requirement.

I believe in God as being a benevolent and merciful being, willing to pardon us for our sins and give us as many chances as we need to attain the exalted state of even-mindedness. However, as our goal in life is to pass the "test" and attain this state, it is still our responsibility to do so, without assistance. In the interests of making life a true challenge, God does not ever interfere in the goings-on of humanity. It is as foolish and unfair to give thanks to God for fortuitous events in our lives as it is to blame God for our worldly misfortunes. As the challenge is so extremely difficult to pass, I believe in the reincarnation of the atman, or personal soul, as many times as is needed for the said atman to obtain the state of even-mindedness. With each successive life, the atman learns and matures, growing closer and closer to its goal. We shall all reach it in the end, although some will take longer than others. After all have reached the pinnacle, I suppose the Earth will simply cease to exist, as it will no longer hold any further purpose.

MSW, are you aware that the original Windows interface was just about a straight lift of the Macintosh interface at the time? The icon system, developed by Apple, was entirely stolen by Microsoft, and when Apple filed a lawsuit for the theft, the judge decided in favor of Microsoft, most probably as a result of a secret "present" from Gates. So by insulting Macintosh computers and the Macintosh interface, you are also insulting the Windows operating system. Just thought you'd like to know. :P
