Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream,
It is not dying, it is not dying.

Lay down all thoughts, surrender to the void,
It is shining, it is shining.

Yet you may see the meaning of within,
It is being, it is being.

That love is all and love is everyone,
It is knowing, it is knowing.

And ignorance and hate may mourn the dead,
It is believing, it is believing.

But listen to the colour of your dreams,
It is not leaving, it is not leaving.

So play the game, "Existence" to the end,
Of the beginning, of the beginning...

-The Beatles, "Tomorrow Never Knows"

If and when Blades(?) of Geneforge comes around, you will be able to edit the map as well as create new scenarios and the like using a built-in editor.

I'm not going to flame, LF, I'm just going to impart to you a bit of advice: it simply doesn't pay to insult the hard work of so many dedicated designers. Evidently, from the awards and honors many of the scenarios have garnered, quite a few people would disagree with your valuation of their quality.

True. I killed Pinner with my level-40's Guardian and his level 40's Battle Alpha without any trouble at all. She does summon several Battle Betas to protect her if she is attacked, but they can be overcome if your party is strong enough.

I found the guards in Avernum to be the hardest to kill, although I've never played the Exile Trilogy. I've never attacked the guards in Nethergate, and I found the guards in Geneforge and GF2 to be reasonably tough, but hardly challenging to a high-level PC. The only truly deadly guards in either Geneforge game were the Augmented Sholai in Geneforge, simply because they possessed the sickening combination of ~800 HP and the ability to cast Searing Orbs.

In a single game of Avernum 3, I killed every living human on the Isle of Bigail after it turned hostile on me (for helping the nephil), then cleaned out the town of Delis after it turned hostile on me for completing Paolo's quest. It was a rather entertaining game. ;)

I'll be spending most of Christmas Day with my family, opening presents and the like. I won't be seeing the ferrets on Christmas Day, as I'll be visiting the shelter the day after, on Friday. Later in the day tomorrow, I'll probably get bored and take off to a friend's house, we'll get a bunch of people over, see what happens. The usual, mostly.

Ah, yes. Wallace and Gromit, I forgot to list that earlier. Fine stuff. It's a pity that Aardman Animations hasn't done a whole lot since Chicken Run, though.

Yes, many of the old classics are truly fine movies. Casablanca and The Manchurian Candidate seem to stand out in my mind. I also neglected, in my earlier posts, to mention one of my all-time favorites: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. I grew up on this movie, and it's always been one of my very favorites.

Hmmm, I've just managed to find the one poem I've written which I believe has some merit. Here it is, and feel free to tell me how awful you think it is. :P

I have lived in the mountain for years.
Breathed its dank air
Dreamt dreams, indulged my fears
Engaged in thoughts both mundane and rare.

I have wandered its passages long.
Found secret portals and dark lairs
I have been filled with joy, have broken into song,
Have watered the hard ground with my tears.

A rough-hewn stairway exists here
Leading up into shadowy unrest
Its destination shielded from the sharp eye’s peer
Hidden in the cloak of mist.

I have thought often of making the climb.
Of trekking up the tortuous stair
And reaching the top, aching limb from limb
To find a world far more fair.

But whenever this thought occurs to me
I realize its danger, its deceptive facility
And considering everything, I always see
I’m better off in my mountain of security.

I tend to watch about one new movie in the theatres every six months, so I don't see a whole lot of new movies. Most of my favorite movies are obscure and gruesome horror films from the 70's and 80's. Most of the recent movies I've seen have been decent, though (Mystic River, Dreamcatcher, etc.) In my earlier list I forgot to mention some of the Poirot movies (based on Agatha Christie mystery novels). Although I haven't seen many, Murder on the Orient Express and Death Under the Sun were both fine movies. I'm sure there are more that I haven't listed yet, but I've yet to remember them.

I agree. I attribute my substantial vocabulary and strong sense of proper grammar to my voracious reading habits as a child. I read like a man possessed up until around high school, when it suddenly ceased to be nearly as much fun. All children should be encouraged to read as much as possible, and watch as little television as possible. Reading develops one's spelling, grammar, and vocabulary, and clearly has a powerful effect on writing style and ability. It also aids in developing one's ability to concentrate, an invaluable resource in the learning process.

And...oh yes, I very nearly forgot-

I agree that in terms of insults and the like, conventional speech can often be far more wounding than curse words. For example, if I were to call you a stuffed shirt, or a frump, or a brainless, gutless, spineless jellyfish, it could quite possibly wound you more than calling you a <censored>head would. Conventional speech can also be far more descriptive than a vague curse word can.

However, as I said earlier, I never really use curse words to insult others. Their presence in my vocabulary is largely for the emphasis of certain points in debates or discussions, and for humor. Many forms of humor do utilize curse words quite effectively in garnering laughs.

One's attitude towards cursing in music seems to depend largely upon one's attitude towards cursing in normal speech. I pretty much use curse words when talking with anyone besides my parents and my professors.

And I'm listening to "I'm Only Sleeping," by the Beatles.

P.S. to Ironweed: I would agree that the lyrics to "She's Leaving Home" are not that great, and the melody is rather commonplace compared to some other Beatles songs. I like the song, although it's not one of my favorites. I tend to prefer Lennon's stuff to McCartney's, largely because although both were fine composers of melodies, Lennon's lyrical abilities were far superior to McCartney's. Listen to songs like "Across the Universe" and "Tomorrow Never Knows" and you'll see what I mean.

David, New York may have invented and perfected thin-crust pizza, but for stuffed pizza or deep dish, you have to come to Chicago. You can't claim to even know what stuffed pizza is if you've never tasted Chicago's.

And I'm glad I have a cast-iron stomach, TM. Your best efforts shall prove to be futile. ;)

I also stand by my claim that Indian cooking, and only Indian cooking, utilizes rice correctly. I have tried many Asian and Mexican preparations involving rice, and have found every single one to be thoroughly revolting. :P

Ah, but you're from New York, I believe, and Thuryl is an Aussie. You people need to come to Chicago and try some real stuffed pizza!

I agree, though, that spinach wouldn't work out so well on a thin-crust pizza. For a thin-crust, my favorite toppings are mushrooms, black olives, green peppers, and onions.

EDIT: And RC, sweet-and-sour sauce is truly repulsive stuff, in my opinion. I can't imagine how anyone could enjoy it on anything.
