Emmerdale: that's not very friendly. StD: Congratulations for behaving yourself when faced with such an obvious flame. I couldn't have done it better myself! :) Posts: 756 | Registered: Monday, August 4 2003 07:00 |

Btw, did anyone get what's so funny about painting Warhammer models? Cause I certainly didn't... -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! I painted warhammer models once upon a time. I believe Emmerdale finds it funny that someone considers painting Warhammer models to be art. Which, to me, seems a little unfair. -------------------- I believe there are 15 747 724 136 275 002 577 105 653 961 181 555 468 044 717 914 527 116 709 366 231 425 076 185 631 031 296 protons in the universe, and the same number of electrons. -- Sir Arthur Eddington Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

My artistic talent lies in writing and music. I am also not a bad actor, but stage fright doesn't help; nor am I a bad singer, but I run out of breath too quickly. Visual arts are my weakness, artistically; I can draw better than many people, sure, but it takes me so long (I'm a perfectionist) that I'd be living in a box before I could sell my first painting. Um. :P But anyway, I play piano and drumset (and other percussive instruments, at school) quite well. I have also began two or three novels, and I have plenty of ideas in my head for more stories. I've tried short stories, but I just can't restrict myself that much. Um... I don't consider RPing an art form, really, but I guess I can do that too... -------------------- And though the musicians would die, the music would live on in the imaginations of all who heard it. -The Last Pendragon TEH CONSPIRACY IZ ALL Les forum de la chance. i have absolutely no artistic talent, other than passable writing skills. thank god i've improved enough over the past few years that i got a mark over 80 for 12U English... a few have said that my RPing isn't bad. but in my opinion, my style is inflexible and generally awful. -------------------- Urban wisdom is not actual wisdom. Btw, no one will believe this I guess, but I learned to write mainly by reading books. The English class in my German school taught me nothing but basic vocabulary, and in the International school I learned how to speak without accent, but I learned to write essays and stories by reading Tolkien, David Eddings, and Shakespeare. Is it any wonder that my style of writing sometimes seems a little, well, longwinded? :P Oh, and just because you paint on models that are already textured doesn't mean it's not creative, and it certainly requires skill. And skill+creativity = art imho... ;) -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. It's a wellknown fact that the only way one can learn to write well is by reading tons and tons of texts. There is no other way. EDIT: And if there is, I'd be very willing to get to know it. I agree. I attribute my substantial vocabulary and strong sense of proper grammar to my voracious reading habits as a child. I read like a man possessed up until around high school, when it suddenly ceased to be nearly as much fun. All children should be encouraged to read as much as possible, and watch as little television as possible. Reading develops one's spelling, grammar, and vocabulary, and clearly has a powerful effect on writing style and ability. It also aids in developing one's ability to concentrate, an invaluable resource in the learning process. And...oh yes, I very nearly forgot- *ferrets put paws together for Stug* -------------------- "Let a man find himself, in distinction from others, on top of two wheels with a chain- at least in a poor country like Russia- and his vanity begins to swell out like his tires. Beautifully put, Stughalf! One (rare?) problem might arise from reading too much of a specific genre (probably fantasy, in the case of most people here). If you just read fantasy novels for a period of eight years, your style may be limited to clear-cut descriptions and portrayals; most fantasy novels I've read, although entertaining, are written somewhat formulaically (if that's a word) and leave little room for interperetation. -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1614 | Registered: Wednesday, January 23 2002 08:00 |

I read nothing but medical journals for the first ten years of my life. That probably explains quite a lot about me.

According to some I have a "disorder", I tend to draw on everything. Schoolwork, novels, napkins, and if I become desperate enough in a situation where there is a severe shortage of paper... i will end up drawing on myself. Mostly faeries and elves. I also love to write, although I find that I rarely sit down and write for my enjoyment becuase school so often forces me to write about things I have absolutely no interest in, I have a few published poems, but I do not at all consider myslef a poet... I've no idea why anyone would enjoy my poems, they are usually almost completely lacking in inspiration or talent in my opinion. Wow! Some of you guys sound really talented :) -------------------- Love is what we are born with, fear is what we learned here Posts: 8 | Registered: Saturday, December 20 2003 08:00 |

Hmmm, I've just managed to find the one poem I've written which I believe has some merit. Here it is, and feel free to tell me how awful you think it is. :P I have lived in the mountain for years. Breathed its dank air Dreamt dreams, indulged my fears Engaged in thoughts both mundane and rare. I have wandered its passages long. Found secret portals and dark lairs I have been filled with joy, have broken into song, Have watered the hard ground with my tears. A rough-hewn stairway exists here Leading up into shadowy unrest Its destination shielded from the sharp eye’s peer Hidden in the cloak of mist. I have thought often of making the climb. Of trekking up the tortuous stair And reaching the top, aching limb from limb To find a world far more fair. But whenever this thought occurs to me I realize its danger, its deceptive facility And considering everything, I always see I’m better off in my mountain of security. -------------------- "Let a man find himself, in distinction from others, on top of two wheels with a chain- at least in a poor country like Russia- and his vanity begins to swell out like his tires. Sir David approves. I can never find the right words, so my poetry is always kind of choppy... not rhythmically, the syllables just sound weird. -------------------- And though the musicians would die, the music would live on in the imaginations of all who heard it. -The Last Pendragon TEH CONSPIRACY IZ ALL Les forum de la chance. Yes, I think it's nice too. Lots of words I didn't understand, though. :P I sometimes write poems (in Swedish). They are usually choppy and always impossible to translate into English. My two favourite poets are Edith Södergran and Tove Jansson. Posts: 756 | Registered: Monday, August 4 2003 07:00 |

Just something off the top of my head for this topic A long grey morning last october my steps lead me down to the shoreline where a man struggled against his darkness, in the water drowning Nothing served to help my thoughts No answer lay at hand Despite my hopes and all my fears I could not save this man His efforts seemed valiant, yet their futility was plain to him, to me we both could see his soul, by water claimed Thus, I sat, I watched, Our eyes met but once. And in his gaze forgiveness lay He strruck his colors, reliquished life and sank beneath the waves Along that lonely beach I lay for hours and hours all through the day wondering at the fate of Man and the coldness seeping through, within Weeping, wearied at dusk I returned to the cheering warmth of hearth and home Not the man I was before nor could never be again -------------------- Learn About The Man Behind the Messiah.
