I like the second of the three new versions ADoS posted the most, but it's still not as good as his cave. I still can't quite agree with TGM's, although the second new one is the best of the lot. Avernum shouldn't be wearing the Empire, the Empire shouldn't be smaller, and the Empire shouldn't be silver. Making both gold would make things worse, not better. —Alorael, who still thinks that TGM's are the most professional in appearance. The cave has a strong Exile resemblance, though, which is nice. It's so hard to choose! Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

As it is the crown and sun represent the conflict of the first two Avernum games and the swords represent the conflict of the second two. The swords look good, but the two symbols don't quite seem right. Maybe instead of making them have a pseudo-3D color gradient they should just be truly stylized as basically flat yellow. —Alorael, who has no good way to describe it except as making them look like badges rather than objects. I never quite caught the irony of Avernum's crest being a sunburst before. —Alorael, who now thinks that TGM's certainly looks the most professional and also gives the page the cleanest look. Unfortunately, it has nothing to do with Ermarian. He then made a few efforts to try to put ADoS's surface and cave graphic inside the larger circle of TGM's, but the result was ugly. State secrets are not to be blabbered so casually! Loose posts sink tyrannical regimes! —Alorael, who must declare that his vahnatai carries the key to wiki greatness and, apparently, immaculate coiffure. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Aw, thanks! But that's no utensil for hair grooming. Vahnatai don't have any hair! It's actually a key, like this: Except the vahnatai are so amazingly wise and powerful that their keys have many teeth, are gigantic, and glow. —Alorael, who bets that's why they gave up on keys and switched to hexagonal bars. This topic is veering dangerously close to getting locked. That is all. —Alorael, who would like to roleplay himself playing Alec playing Nico playing Aran playing TM playing Jeff Vogel playing Saunder playing Slarty playing MM playing Alorael. Would there have to be OOOOOOC threads? Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I disagree. I think having the bottom entirely in cool colors and the top in warm colors works very well. While I can see how the much-improved crossed swords are a better emblem, I still think the second one makes a better logo. —Alorael, who thinks a vote is unnecessary unless there's any serious disagreement. Wouldn't it be nice to have a logo by unanimous decision? Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I prefer ADoS Logo 1.1 more than 1.2. The second version is too cluttered. That said, the lopsidedness of the whole from the different sizes of the sword and the waveblade is not so good anyway. —Alorael, who could not produce a vahnatai mouth that didn't look absurd. Absurdity is for once not the effect he's looking for. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

I think ADoS's new one is exactly what's needed. —Alorael, who at first confused the tower for a giant rat with a glowing blue nose. Avernum's Rudolph, perhaps, to go with the Avernite Christmas? Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Gmail really has become the gold standard of free email. Hotmail is okay, but you can't access it through mail clients and its spam filtering doesn't even approach the magnificence of Gmail's. —Alorael, who seriously wants to know how Gmail does as well as it does. It lets through only around 1% of the spam he gets, and he hasn't yet lost any real mail as far as he is aware. Yes, that's somewhat humorous, but he does check spam and nobody has yelled at him for missing a message. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

That's Nociduas, I think. Cross the river through the tunnel north of Fort Dranlon and then look around the northern part of the small area you reach. There's a one-way trip down and into Nociduas's lair. —Alorael, who wonders if it's ever possible to kill Nociduas before he finishes summoning his friends. He could check the scripts, but he'd rather just guess that it isn't because of scripted potions. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Along with the room behind Sulfras there's also a room behind Erika in the center of her tower. No, there's no way into any of those places and nothing inside even if you can get there. —Alorael, who wouldn't think too hard about the possible logic of those two statements. The Great White is only evil in your feeble grasp of reality. Yea, he hath transcended such petty labels. On the other hand, he's responsible for GC, which makes him pretty clearly capable of great evil. Saunders is the most evol and Imban is the most overtly vicious, but Khoth's quiet, unassuming, sinister evil is unmatched. Stareye is, of course, the unholiest of unholies, but I saved him for another category. Aran strikes me as the kind of pseudo-evil who, when push comes to shove, nobly sacrifices himself (or at least 36 hours without rest) in order to debug the script that saves the world. Stareye has no competition in the evil leader department. None. —Alorael, who thinks that Aran's Big Brother banner is funny. From Stareye it is not funny. From Stareye it is cold, hard, bitter truth. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

His ban is not permanent and threads don't belong to the starter. That said, I would sleep better knowing that those lyrics killed the thread. —Alorael, who also can't see the need to announce a topic's death. That's dangerously close to exhumation and draws more attention to things best left buried like, for instance, horrific lyrics. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

The five classes are all like the old classes: out of combat, magic, and shaping skill sets, you get one for fewer skill points, one for the average number, and one for more. The one possible arrangement that isn't included hasn't yet been revealed by Jeff, and I'm afraid of the NDA. There is one new creation of each type and there are two new spells of each type. There are a few new snazzy graphics. —Alorael, who could maybe be more helpful if he were more familiar with the older Geneforges. Sadly, he's not. Movies and books make terrible subjects for games without heavy, heavy editing. That includes plot. Especially plot. I'm a big fan of BG2, although I'm also somewhat intimidated by its size. I think I've seen only about a quarter of it while playing. Icewind Dale never quite captured my attention in the same way, and as soon as I have a way to play it I intend to get a copy of Planescape: Torment. —Alorael, who is also greatly enjoying GF4. It makes him want to go register the previous Geneforges just to understand what's going on better. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

It's not quite fair to accuse Jeff of running out of plots. Between the plot of Exile 3 and the plot of Avernum 4 he created four Blades scenarios (most of which are panned, but none of which are E3/A3/A4), Nethergate (brilliant), and three Geneforges. —Alorael, who thinks everyone has their bad plot days, especially when the game isn't especially about plot. Around the world in however long it takes! —Alorael, who thinks this may require recourse to TM. To pick up everyone on the cruise someone needs to know where everyone lives, and while TM may not he does know where everyone's mother lives. You can ask questions and they may be answered here, but most questions can only be frequently asked after the game in question is released. —Alorael, who can say that system requirements are somewhat up in the air right now. As usual, Spiderweb does not make heavy demands. As unusual, Universal has apparently thrown things for a loop. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

No, I think I fabricated the memory of ruby skeletons. Am I totally wrong in remembering some undead thing that drops gems? Mertis Spiral, maybe? —Alorael, who somehow managed to get a certain battle with skeletons on a platform inserted into A4. Maybe it was wishful thinking since there are no A4 platforms.
