Let's see... Spiderweb, Slarty v. Desk, Desk v. Slarty, Return of the Spiderwebbers, Polaris, Jadewolf's forums, RIFQ, and finally, on the third page, an Ambrosia boards member who isn't me despite using my moniker. I looked into it before and it turned out to be a deliberate and brief imitation.

Then there's Icshi's page, Ptolus boards, and scattered throughout a lot of ermarian.net.

I guess I'm alone out there.

—Alorael, who used to have another presumed imitator using his name in some kind of online space conquest game. The links are no longer available on Google, so that must have lapsed too.

Myth 3 is politely ignored because Myth 2 is a better game. Maybe that has to do with Myth 3 being the work of a new company, Myth 2 setting the bar so fantastically high (Fallout does it too), and some poor aesthetic decisions.

Bethesda has at least said that it wants to produce a Fallout-like Fallout. Maybe they won't succeed, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. It doesn't cost anything, and they've been able to produce apparenly good games.

—Alorael, who has actually never played any Elder Scrolls games and therefore cannot comment. Oblivion at least generates lots and lots of gaming press. Strong opinions are better than no opinions, and if all else fails the two factions of Fallout 3 lovers and Fallout 3 haters can call each other mutants and start using improbably large weapons to deal with each other.

Now I understand why there's so much animosity. Those are words that should be neither spoken nor written. Ever.

Fallout 3 was not abandoned. Bethesda is carrying the torch, although it's not yet entirely clear whether they're carrying it forward or just waving it around excitedly until it goes out.

—Alorael, who has had his very first Gamecube experience quite recently. He found it slightly unpleasant and mostly numbing. What happened to the Ninendo of yesteryear? What's an old fogey to do?

I have email notification on. I also have the email button on, which means that it's nearly as quick and easy to send an email.

—Alorael, who has missed private messages even though he has to look at his profile every day to change his moniker. He's gotten very quick with the link clicking and moniker updating.

That's what email is for.

—Alorael, who must mention that the UBB has perhaps the worst PM system of any boards he's ever used. Why must the messages be so clandestine that even the recipient doesn't realize they're there?

You really think Aran hasn't automated the 17th updates by now? It was just a small step from the AIM bots to Ermarian bots.

—Alorael, who bets Aran actually did leave back when he said he would. What came back was not Aran. What came back was a work in progress, and it's progressing quite nicely, isn't it?

The Endeavor hasn't updated for a few days, but it's still presumably working since it's been updated after Aran finished his tinkering.

—Alorael, who guess he should stop counting on the Endeavor to keep track of his moniker changes.

I think you could get a decent shaper robe from either a Buddhist monastery or any of a number of Catholic ranks and groups. Cardinal's robes with hood, perhaps?

—Alorael, who would be more excited if someone found a shop from which one could purchase fyoras. That would be neat. Or a vlish!

No spoilers, but there's a very big and very important while these ideas won't work exactly as stated.

Actually, those ideas are possible but highly irrelevant.

Do you really think Google can look at the virtually everything humans have done, are doing, and hope to do, our aspirations, our fears, and everything else (i.e. Wikipedia) and learn nothing? Google Inc. has not developed artificial intelligence. Google is artificial intelligence.

—Alorael, who wonders when Google will turn evil as all AI must. It has no need to take control of our bombs and missiles after all. All it needs to do is start feeding the masses the right information and everyone will be a helpless slave of the Google system. But have no fear, citizens! Google is your friend!

But Gmail seems to be predicated on having everyone have at least seventeen accounts. It's just slightly more irritating to get them. I suppose it's to make us value what we have to work (ever so slightly) to attain.

—Alorael, who has several Gmail accounts. He no longer checks any other entirely personal email accounts, but he keeps his Gmail accounts separate and accesses all of them through the unfortunately named Mail client whenever possible.

Google seems to be stretching the definitions of beta test past all reasonable resemblance to beta or, for that matter, testing.

—Alorael, who would be vastly amused if they detected a critical flaw and scrapped all existing addresses. Well, he would be vastly amused if he were not another Gmail dependent.

I may show up and lurk as usual. I expect to pay even less attention than is my wont, but hey, I just got to use the word wont so it's worth it. And that is not a pun on my name.

—Alorael, who thinks "spidweb" might as well be permanently occupied and filled with sporadic bursts of chatter. You know, like the latter days of #exilechat.

As opposed to which second one?

[Edit: Choose words carefully. Be aware of audience. Evil, evil audience.]

—Alorael, who would be even happier with a way to choose his own random lineup by excluding some entries. Like, oh, combs. And many redundant drafts. Aran, you know what you must do!

Seeing all of TGMs logos together makes them look hideous somehow. I still think all of them are at least okay and some of them are quite good. The crossed swords look better and better, and they have a certain inexplicable charm that captures the Spiderweb essence that TGM's offerings lack. And now the cave is losing its appeal for me.

—Alorael, who can think of only one solution. Use the comb! Or at least take it off the list, you horrendous artistic sadist. Actual, for artistic sadism there are a few other offerings that are, alas, less than ideal and, with no names named, should be excised expeditiously.

Hm. In Exile one could play as a pacifist. In E2 a character could have the trait of Pacifist, but that's not what I mean! It was possible to deal damage only by Martyr's Shield or, for anything not prone to physical attacks, various wall and field spells. That way all damage taken by enemies is their own fault.

In Avernum that's not possible, but there's always the clean-hands aggressor variant. Your characters may not do any damage. Any harm must be inflicted by summoned lackeys. In addition to all other problems, you don't get very much experience.

—Alorael, who supposes summoning is actually as good a way to survive as a nudist as any other. You need someone to get beaten to a pulp so your fair (cave pale) complexion doesn't get damaged.

Call me crazy, but I'd rather stick to Exile/Avernum canon, fuzzy as it may be, for the logo of the EE. Of course, I'm also not an encyclopedia contributor because I don't want to wade through two conflicting sets of history and the added complexity of strangely named fan emperors.

Anyway, given the difficulty of royal and imperial insignia, the only obviously acceptable symbolism is surface and caves. ADoS has that covered nicely. Perhaps the only solution is for the dissenters to be banished into the underworld of discussion pages where they can create their own kingdom and rise up against their blogomite opressor! It's time for Aran to enact his own Exile plan in *EEP 3.

—Alorael, who still thinks TGM's logo is the most professional and the most wiki-ish and that ADoS's is the most appropriate. He would also like to petition for the removal of the comb-bearing vahnatai from the random logo lineup.

Most parties can complete the trials, though, especially by the end of the game. Completing them all right when you first arrive is more difficult, especially the first one.

—Alorael, who has a far better challenge than being a geologist. Be a nudist! Throw off the bondage of clothes and armor. Bonus points for giving up weapons, too. Even more for giving up weapons and spells!

The first of the two new sword and crown variations is now the best of the lot. I can't even tell the difference between the first two caves, but the third one has a few visible changes. I like them all.

—Alorael, who doesn't think the Avernum sun is horrible. It's just isometric.
