Shana Tovah. :) -------------------- Be careful with a word, as you would with a sword, For it too has the power to kill. However well placed word, unlike a well placed sword, Can also have the power to heal. Posts: 2649 | Registered: Wednesday, October 3 2001 07:00 |

Shana tovah tikatevu. (Which I hope means "Happy New Year" or something similar. I don't want to risk Google's translators.) -------------------- And when you want to Live How do you start? שנה תובה תכתבו Actually it translates along the lines of "Good year, may you be written (in the book of people whose good deeds outweigh their bad deed, therefore surviving the coming year)". I used to think "Yom Kippur" was pronounced "yom kipper," which made me think it was a way of saying one's fish was delicious. Mazeltov. For some reason, due to fate, half of my friends are Jewish. Happy Yom Kippur! I started fasting at sundown last night and I'm freaking hungry. -------------------- Nobody appreciates me. It's all "Igor! Fetch some wine!" "Igor! Clean up this experiment!" or "Igor! Bury this in the garden, we're leaving town in 10 minutes!" —Alorael, who tried to become a deivore once. The priest gave him a funny look after the third wafer. To make your list more consistent, you should make that: Who will not play G4 and who will? I mean, I can't leave out an opportunity to bash it, can I? :P -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. Nioca - go ahead if you want, it's a slight parody of a Jewish prayer from the High Holiday services. The first line is part of a long list of possible fates for the coming year that God decides upon between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

You are confusing GF4 with GC2, sir. —Alorael, who has been enjoying GF4 in his copious spare time recently. Once he has spare time again he will presumably enjoy it more. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

You know, about half of my college is Jewish, and I'm a little depressed by how most would-be celebrants are really apathetic about their holiday. It's basically an excuse to miss class and "meditate/reflect" (read: sleep in) to a huge number of people. And then they gripe about the fasting. I know it's true for a lot of holidays across all religions... but it's still a serious downer. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I agree, to an extent, but Judaism is very different from other mainstream religions in some fundamental ways. For instance, a child raised as a Christian who decides to be an athiest is no longer Christian, but a child raised Jewish who decides that they don't believe in God will more often than not still identify themselves as Jewish. -------------------- "At times discretion should be thrown aside, and with the foolish we should play the fool." - Menander ==== Drakefyre's Demesne - Happy Happy Joy Joy Encyclopedia Ermariana - Trapped in the Closet ==== You can take my Mac when you pry my cold, dead fingers off the mouse! If you are Jewish, the according to Jewish law you are a Jew until you formally convert to another religion. Even if you are excommunicated (which rarely happens anymore) you are still Jewish. That's why Spinoza still could come for Yom Kippur services. You get bored during services and you start reading footnotes and other material.
