At first I assumed the typo meant "fake", not "fact", but it made little sense in the context. An odd combination of the two terms.

Edit - Quote of the day:

Philosophers say a great deal about what is absolutely necessary for science, and it is always, so far as one can see, rather naive, and probably wrong.

Because, in spite of us tending to bash Jeff's newer games for their increasing drop in depth and rise in hack'n'slash, porting them to a console might be compared to reading Shakespeare on television.

Not to say that all console gamers prefer shallow content and pretty graphics. But those who don't, have computers.

I'm using a bit of spare time to bring you a little dilemma from my workplace. Admittedly, few here will have experience with this, but I'm hoping for the few techies to have some advice.

We're setting up a new webserver and can't decide on an OS that it will run. It will apparently only serve a single large website that will use TYPO3 as a CMS (personally, I'd prefer Drupal, but meh). TYPO3 runs on PHP/MySQL, so Linux is pretty obvious. But which Linux?

So far I've considered distros to be like religion or ice-cream flavors - useful for little except arguing and best left up to personal taste. But is there a distribution that is better suited for servers?

And bye. :)

I have some time this evening.

Name: Chris
Birthday: 1987-07-18
Birthplace: New York (Manhattan), NY
Current location: My room at my parent's house
Eye color: Gray/Green
Hair color: Blond
Height: 1.87 meters
Right-handed or left-handed? I write with my left but do many other things with my right.

... don't even think of it.

Your heritage: German and probably a bit of East European and/or Prussian.
The shoes you wore today: none. Stayed indoors.
Your weakness: web-comics.
Your fears: Our little insect-eating friends from nature.
Your perfect pizza: Champignons, Tuna and Hawaii. Possibly all of it at once.
Goal you would like to achieve this year: Stop procrastinating... when I get around to it.
Your most-overused phrase on an instant messenger: heh, :P
Thoughts upon waking up: 1. "What time is it?" 2. "Ugh, do I need to get up today?" 3. "Coffee."
Your best physical feature: I have been reliably informed that I'm "cute".
Your bedtime: Between 23:00 and 2:30, up at 5:00 up to 10:00.
Your most-missed memory: Way back when, in 2003, when roleplays actually got done.
Pepsi or Coke? Tap water. More healthy.
McDonalds or Burger King? Subway.
Single or Group Dates? Ask me after I actually have a date.
Lipton Ice Tea or Nestea? Herbal tea.
Chocolate or Vanilla? Strawberry.
Cappuccino or Coffee? Cappucino is enjoyable. Coffee gets the job done.
Do you smoke? Have never, will never.
Do you swear? When nobody easily offended is around. Otherwise, **** that ****, you ****ing ****er.
Do you sing? Baritone. Only occasionally though.
Do you shower daily? Every morning.
Have you ever been in love? I think I've been in a crush about 3-4 times.
Do you want to go to college? Yes, under-grad in 5th semester.
Do you want to get married? Eventually.
Do you believe in yourself? Usually.
Do you get motion sickness? If I'm reading, yes.
Do you think you are attractive? I am optimistic that I will eventually find someone who looks at inner values. :P
Are you a health freak? By American standards, probably. Here, just average - no fast food, plenty of fruit and vegetables, watch vitamin intake, etc.
Do you get along with your parents? Very well.
Do you like thunderstorms? My favorite weather after a clear night and sunrise.
Do you play an instrument? The piano. Have been dreaming of learning the guitar for a year or so.
In the past month have you consumed alcohol? I drank half a glass of wine last week.
In the past month have you smoked tobacco? See earlier question.
In the past month have you been on drugs? Does caffeine count?
In the past month have you gone on a date? See earlier questions.
In the past month have you gone to a mall? ... I don't think we have that here.
In the past month have you eaten a box of Oreos? Ditto.
In the past month have you eaten sushi? "Spoiling nice fish, scorching it! Give it to us RRRAW, and... WRRRIGGLING! You keep nasty chips."

Never.

In the past month have you been on stage? I narrowly avoided it.
In the past month have you been dumped? No.
In the past month have you gone skinny dipping: Tyranicus answered that well.
In the past month have you stolen anything? Time. Otherwise, no - not even mp3s.
Ever been drunk? A little disoriented, yes. Never enough to black out or get a hangover.
Ever been called a tease? No.
Ever been beaten up? Once.
Ever shoplifted? No.
How do you want to die? With the feeling of having finished all I wanted to accomplish.
What do you want to be when you grow up? A pirate! No wait, a spy! Or a private investigator!

Er. And I'm supposed to be grown up. :-/
What country would you most like to visit? Ireland and Finland.
Number of CDs you own: Dozens
Number of piercings: Never.
Number of tattoos: Never.
Number of things in your past you regret: 1000s.
Initials: CSB
Last thing you ate: A slice of toast with peanut butter.
For or against same sex marriage: Why the **** should I care what other people do in their bedroom and what fiscal benefits they get for it?
Do you believe in God? I believe if she existed and wanted me to believe in him, it would tell me so.
Favorite holiday: New Year's Eve. When the resolutions are fresh and all that optimism is in the air.
Do you download music? Hey, it's all legal!
Do you care if your socks are dirty or not? Yes.
Do you love anyone? No current crushes, really...
Do you like Bush? Mere words cannot express my emotions about this man. I'll leave it at that.
Has anyone ten years or more older than you ever hit on you? Not that I'd notice, fortunately.
How much money do you have? Enough to get by.

What do you usually order from Starbucks? Never done that.
Have you ever fired a gun? Air gun, at a fair.
Favorite TV show? What is a "TV"?

Favorite movie of all time: LotR
Have you ever been caught doing something you weren't supposed to? Riding on a train without a ticket.
What's your favorite flower? Cornflower. Nice color.
Butter, plain, or salted popcorn? We only get it with sugar or chocolate here, unfortunately. Thus, plain.
What magazines do you read? On paper, none.
Have you ever ridden in a limo? One of my grand-uncles owns a Porsche, and I think I was in it once.
What’s your favorite smell? Freshly-baked cake, or coffee.
Favorite college football team: On the nearly non-existent occasion I tangle with sports, I do them myself rather than watching others do them.
Favorite cereal: Plain corn-flakes
Do you drive? No.
What's the longest time you've gone without sleep? 36 hours, I think. Last November, 30.
Last time you went bowling? Never.
Where is the weirdest place you have slept? I can't remember. I can sleep almost anywhere though... possibly a desk in a classroom?
Last time you were at work? If you count fixing my grandmother's window-shutters, earlier today.

I feel that the Spiderweb Forums can no longer give me the fulfillment I seek from life. I will never return.

Joking.

But I will be gone* for several weeks. My job and studies have a heap of work that will literally be finished in the last minute. If I want to have any chance at getting my Bachelor next year, I have to get off my posterior right now.

(*)Where gone, as people who know me can confirm, means less than 1 post a day. I'll be making an extra effort over christmas and new year's not to spend time here, but I probably won't be able to resist popping in a few times. I'll also read email and be on instant messenger. So I won't be gone, just... less prolific.

See you later! :) *hugs everyone*

The idea of nails on a chalkboard, or a fork scratching over a plate, or touching a pot made of burnt, unglazed clay all give me goosebumps. Not very bad, but it's irritating.

And I remember being able to see a magic eye picture once. Since then, I've been satisfied that it *is* possible, and usually given up in irritation when it didn't work in a few seconds on later attempts.

Now I'm not saying that the members of this community aren't trustworthy, but if Jeff tried that, I predict the source would be leaked within days.

You betcha. Trustworthiness hasn't got much to do with it - if he wanted to, Jeff could ask for a Non-Disclosure Agreement, like his beta testers. The thing is that there is not much point in making something open source without, well opening it. That would basically just be asking a few people to work for him for free.

Er, not that scenario designers don't already do that. :P
