That's enough, kids. It may look juicy and succulent, but have you ever wondered what parts of a pig spam actually consists of? All right, I *do* need to optimize the code somehow. It's 85% finished - it started last night, and it is now evening here. Soon I'll have to start the update on the 16th if I want to have it ready on the 17th. And I have no idea why it's taking so long this time. -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. Well, he needs to hurry, because EndeavorBot is up to #3665 as I'm posting, and going at about 1 in 5 seconds. A bit slow today; I might have to try optimizing the code some time. -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. Wow. It adds up to quite a bit when tallied up over the years. I impersonated Imban (hell, we all did. :P ) and Alorael (*cough*). I couldn't resist making a few bad puns that were border-line vulgar. A couple of years ago, I badly flamed a few people, and I still occasionally make a faux-pas (regarding upon mars' dyslexia, for example). And between all the numerous locks and edits, I'm sure that an arbitrary one slipped in once or twice. I lock topics when I think they're completely useless, and my judgment is sometimes off. But at least I resisted the brief temptation to edit all posts in this thread to say "****** that ******* you *********, here's the complete text of Harry Potter: [...] and besides that Jeff Vogel and all atheists should be BANNED! Go to disgusting.advertisement.page for FREEEE c14l1s; Can I now please have a key for Avernum 4?", and then lock it. And move it to Avernum Trilogy. Just for the irony, you see. But my good sense quickly won out. I think you misunderstood Thuryl's point. Creating an alien psychology is not the mark of a bad writer. Using "he's an alien, they have a different psychology" as an excuse is. By analogy to fantasy, it's the "it works with magic" blunder of Science Fiction. -------------------- The Noble and Ancient Order of Polaris - We're Not Yet Dead. Even more evolution. Thanks to the new generic changes&list functions, any field can be tracked or listed (provided it makes sense, ie. no tracking of member number changes). It is now possible to track homepage as well as karma vote changes, or list by last update. quote:Stupid date fields getting mixed up. Fixed. The gender feature is mainly my own speculation and observation (although I'm pretty careful not to jump to conclusions). There are only about 152 that are set. If you feel uneasy about this, I'll remove it from public view again as it was before. Oh, and I didn't get the part about "delisting" until I saw that a few profiles weren't being updated anymore (among them Diki, Ephesos, Jewels, Saunders, Randomizer, Nemesis, and Tully). This is because their "last updated" timestamps are set to null, and so they're out of the updating cycle. I can't say how this happened, but I forced a manual update on these, and they should be working regularly once again. Edit: Of course! Last month, I was in hot water because the bulk updater got stuck on trying to update a spammer that Stareye had just deleted. So I rewrote the updater to automatically "delist" accounts it can't reach, so it doesn't get stuck in a loop. Unfortunately, if the Spiderweb forum goes down for an hour or two, any member updated during that time will be delisted. So I need to distinguish between "server unreachable" and "member not found" in parsing the response... In other news, The Pirate Bay plans to buy the Principality of Sealand and establish a data haven. (Off-topic? It's my topic. :P ) Edit: Except Sealand already is a data haven in the most literal sense. On another note, if I ever decide to leave Dreamhost, I know where the Ermarian Network will be moving to. Not that there is anything on it that would require freedom from regulation - but just the coolness factor. If I could afford it, of course. :/ [ Friday, January 12, 2007 07:47: Message edited by: Arancaytar ] -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. The presentation I've been going on and on about is done (grade isn't decided yet, so there is still some suspense), and I have a little time to turn toward this place and all the Ermarian stuff again. 1.) Going to work with Logo to restore Polaris so we at least get the year-old content back. 2.) Going on a hunt through the Google cache, my email and keylogs to bring back a little of the data we lost - RPs and so on. 3.) Rework the Endeavor to work with the latest version of Drupal 4.) Extend the PPP a bit so it has nicer navigation and the PPP2 threads are included as well. This is all fairly long-term; I still have craploads to do this semester. But there's a bit of respite so I can fix some of the more pressing things. :) Edit: Oh, and I seem to have forgotten completely about this. Here we go once more: quote:(Heh. Now I've started *two* pages with the same post. :P ) To make it a bit easier to host the pictures in a nice website (and since you specifically asked for an album), I can recommend software like Gallery2. If you want, I could set up something like that. Edit: Or yes, you can use Google. Doesn't matter, just pick an Evil Overlord out of the lot. :P [ Wednesday, January 10, 2007 06:55: Message edited by: Arancaytar ] -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. I don't know many classical performers by name. Now, composers... But of the few I do know, I'd have to go with Hélène Grimaud. I also like Yo Yo Ma, but have heard only little music by him (one performance together with Bobby McFerrin). Oh, and if they don't need to be alive, Glenn Gould. This survey is badly formatted. What is your favorite food? Pizza. What is your most hated food? Savoy. It's a kind of cabbage. Is there any circumstance under which you would eat your most hated food? Starvation. What is your favorite beverage? Dihdyrogen Monoxide. What? Coffee is not a beverage. Coffee is a religion. What do you normally cook spur of the moment? Rice. It's just about the only thing I can cook. Are you a vegetarian? Coincidentally, I had a vegetarian dish for lunch today. But normally, no. What is your favorite dessert food? Chocolate. What is your favorite type of chocolate? It's a kind of spicy chocolate with cinnamon, nougat and coriander, which is only available in winter. I still have a few precious pieces. Already looking forward to next christmas... Other than that, chocolate coated coffee beans. Favorite pizza topping(s)? Hawaii (ananas and meat), or tuna. Favorite breakfast? Toast with cheese, orange juice, coffee. Least favorite breakfast? In the morning, I eat anything that doesn't run away. Provided it comes with coffee. Favorite protein food? Fish. Favorite fruit? Apple Favorite vegetable? Carrot Favorite popcorn topping? Sadly, they don't top popcorn here. It's either plain or with sugar. I take plain, although I'd give butter a try if I could.[/QB][/QUOTE] -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast.
