Title asks the question quite nicely. However, this post will be very mean and refuse to ask. It says "Tell me your favorite classical performer(s) now or be slowly tortured to death with sharp pointy objects!!!" The title is very nice though and will give you a cookie. My favorite classical performer is Jacqueline du Pré. She's the most amazing cellist I've ever heard. In my opinion(which is guarded with mechanical pencils), she is better than Yo Yo Ma and the only reason he's considered the best cellist is because she died. Give me Christain lindberg or Jurgen van Rijen any time. Christian Lindberg is about the best trombonist on this planet, for all I know. One of the very few that managed to play "flight of the bumble bee" of Rimsky-Korsakov on a trombone. Believe me, it's difficult. Piano: Victor Berge. Hellz yeah. Voice: Chanticleer. The concert of theirs I attended was the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. Marc Minkowski and Les Musiciens du Louvre have deeply impressed me with just about everything I've heard. I don't know many classical performers by name. Now, composers... But of the few I do know, I'd have to go with Hélène Grimaud. I also like Yo Yo Ma, but have heard only little music by him (one performance together with Bobby McFerrin). Oh, and if they don't need to be alive, Glenn Gould.
