Any topic that has Black Marks in it is going to be dragged into spamming/flaming oblivion until it's locked. I might just as well imvoke Godwin's by saying you are all Nazis and speed up the process. But it won't work if it's intentional. Alo, what are the keywords? fanfic + Exile turns up some ten results all of which are totally irrelevant. Uh, me? Searching for TM's dirty fanfics? . Uuhhh, no, of course. Just scientific interest. A GF based on the Exile engine would be like a StarWars movie reenacted in B/W, without sound, IMHO. Not that the Exile engine sucks, it's just that the Geneforge one is more highly developed. I know that too much graphic quality distracts from the game plot, but I found the GF engine much easier to handle than Exile, and in some places Avernum (Do you know how much time I sometimes spend trying to get on the space exactly in front of a door, because the interface always makes my party take two steps at once?). I'd much more like to see the contrary: A remake of Exile/Avernum based on the GF engine. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. Posting that was actually a bad idea. Now we'll be flooded by insane scenarios that have "Wangs of Fireballs" and the like. You just wait... -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! On the southern hemisphere anyway. But since Jeff lives on the northern one, he'll release it sometime from september to december. And no matter what season that is to you, it'll be the same time (not taking into account time zones). -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" You mean TM's and Kakashi's? I don't know, but I'd be highly hesitant to ask them about their fanfics and fanart, it sounds extremely dirty. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! What I'd especially like to see is another game set in Ermarian (that's the world of Exile/Avernum FYI); doesn't necessarily need to be set after A3/E3, but should explain a lot more about the background of the world. But that's just my opinion, and I bet the people here who'd agree with me on this can be counted on one hand. Besides Jeff has said he'll never do it anyway. Another Geneforge could be cool, but I'm in no position to say that since I only ever played half the demo of G1, and that was a year ago. My current PC can't run Geneforge, nor Avernum 3... Jeff might hire some additional programmer, that would perhaps cut down on development time. And the next one to suggest he should get a job at a large company will be executed slowly. You'll see, the best game makers are the independant ones; especially concerning RPGs. Large companies focus too much on the graphics, and have too little time to work on a decent plot. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. Coleridge --- "It is as if everyone had lost their sense Consigned themselves to downfall and decadence And a wisp it is they have chosen as their beacon." Back off-topic for one post, all those ASCII games have a different way to mark monsters, so d can be a dog and a lesser dragon in two games. Imagine it: "Oh, hi, cute doggie....." *RRRROOOAARR* and small purple j's send me running, while a grey & causes me not to run, but to restart the game... Greater Molochs... -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. Strategy games take a lot of development resources. Take a look at all the good strategy games on the market, and you'll see they were all released by really large companies. This is different from RPG games, where the ones with the best plot are usually those made by small unknown developers. The AIs are a lot more important for one thing - while a goblin can be stupid in some situations without a problem, if an enemy consistently makes decisions where a chimpanzee would know better, you get something resembling Galactic Core (never played it myself, just picked it up while reading through the boards ). Strategy games don't rely that much on a plot, and therefore the designer's creativity when making up a story (which Jeff has a lot of judging from Exile) doesn't come into effect. And you must admit that Exile without its fantastic plot would be a heap of crap. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. Coleridge --- "It is as if everyone had lost their sense Consigned themselves to downfall and decadence And a wisp it is they have chosen as their beacon." Wait. Did Jeff ever do anything else except trilogies with scenario editors at the end? If not, then do you define Jeff getting "a new idea" as stopping to make these trilogies and work on another type of game? And if so, how do you know that it takes four years if it never happened before? Sorry, I'm a tad too logical sometimes... -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! Every decent isometric strategy/city building game has that, but RPGs don't for some reason. It was what bugged me most about the Avernum series, but I don't think Jeff'll put it into BoA since he didn't do it for any Avernum game. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! Shouldn't some pges be added there? Especially the Louvre, since it's the biggest graphic resource for BoA on the web? The others are mostly under contruction still, so I'm not sure if they could go up there. Custom scripts would be extremely useful to have on sites, as simple text files probably, and describing what they do first. We're not all programmers (I freak out when I see anything more complex than html), so small snippets of code that, for example, would make a good AI for an end-fight summoner monster, would be a great resource. Didn't someone already suggest a script contest somewhere ;) ? And the graphics are lousy. Even compared to the first version of Exile. But I've said that before. Afai heard, Jeff was going to make a third Geneforge and a scenario editor for that. May have only been a suggestion though. Would be cool anyway. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. Right now we don't have many sites that are concerned with BoA because there's not much they can host (besides graphics that is). Once BoA comes out, for example custom scripts are, I'd guess, gonna be a useful resource for BoA sites to offer. There are some sites that are (or will be) about BoA when they're done, I can now only think of ——Zharrad's (Zharrad's Tower) ——Karzoth's (Fort Emergence) ——my own (Encyclopædia Ermariana) Those are all the under construction sites, of course there's also the Louvre and stuff, but these here shouldn't be forgotten, they'll be great once BoA comes out (mine may be earlier or later than that, since it doesn't technically depend on BoA in any way). If there are more, please post them here. :) -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. If I was trusting my posts here to the linguistic genius of the google auto-translator, you'd know. No, I actually speak fluent English. :P For comparison: "If I mean posts on this forum the linguistic abilities google of the autotranslator would entrust, its that would notice." :D :D Note the verbs at the end, which is a form only employed in the conjunctive (would) — same as in English.
