It makes sense that I'm more towards the center than I used to be, but I think there were a lot of loaded questions in that test. I'm not as liberal as this score shows.

Edit: Ha Salmon, I just noticed that our scores are nearly identical. You must be so proud.

I personally think it depends on your playing style. Whenever I make an all caster I like to equip them with an assortment of side skills like alchemy.

Soldiers are another great starting class.

Custom characters have less skill points than the other classes. I haven't gone through each and every class but this applies to at least the Soldier and the Hedge Wizard (who trumps the Custom by 10+ skill points). It's disappointing that you can't remove their skills to get a higher point Custom character, but some like the Hedge Wizard, are much better for making magic users than the Custom class.

I've never seen this posted anywhere, so I just thought I'd share my small find.

You will find an adjective to fit every number in that scale or I will hunt you down.

To answer this topic's question, E2 followed closely by BoA.

That's because designers only make up a tiny percentage of the people who buy the game. That might change if the editor and community were more easily accessable.

Though I've "completed" a scenario, I have yet to actually submit one. I recently started a new project that I'm optimistic about.

I'm also working on some new very similar NPC graphics that I hope to turn into something cooler, which you can get a little more information about at the Shadowvale forums.

How Did You Find Spiderweb? in General

When I was about 6 or 7 and the internet was still a new thing to me, AOL had a "Kid's Only" sort of web channel. The channel had a link to hundreds of freeware/shareware games you could download from Platformers to RPGs. I remember downloading Exile 1 and 2 and loving both of them (they actually had the original cave graphics.) In 1998, I begged my dad to register Exile 2 for me and he eventually buckled and ordered the registration code. I found the forums a few months later and stuck around the Hints board.

EDIT:
I remember using the Shyguy avatar.

I shouldn't have read through that list. I didn't even think about those things but now I want them too.

I suppose my biggest wish for this game is that it would be a little more popular. The designing community hasn't grown that much since the release of the game and I'm not sure if people outside that group are even playing the scenarios anymore... On top of that, for whatever reason, some of our more experienced designers just up and quit (*i, Kelandon). I wouldn't be so upset if it wasn't for the fact that I think BoA could make a comeback.

This problem really only applies to people interested in making custom graphics. The monster/terrain graphic dimensions that Jeff gives are wrong. To get the real dimensions, copy a square of floor terrain, paste it over the empty dimensions box, and shift it down one pixel. If you erase most of the floor, you'll get a clear line that gives the proper graphic dimensions. No pixels past this line.

Graphically, BoA is sub-par to BoE. Not only do graphics take a lot more time to make, they suffer from the dimensions they're given. In BoE you could make large monsters, small monsters, long monsters, tall monsters. In BoA you're restricted to short or tall. No giant lions or snakes or things like that, just tall creatures or short creatures. You can sort of work around this (Dark Wyrm graphic), but it's very hard and almost not worth the effort. Details are also lost in the transition from two-dimensional graphics to isometric graphics.

My two biggest problems with Avernum 4:
1. Graphics looked like Chess pieces
2. Getting around was even worse than in Geneforge 3 which, if you haven't played it, is horrifying.

Otherwise I didn't think it was so bad. I didn't buy it, but I thought a few things were interesting like the new system for area of effect spells.

i was thinking of making a scenario about a labrynth.
you start in town.
there is a stair way in the middle of the town.
takes u to lvl 1-4 (dark)
lvl 5-9 would be 10 x darker
lvl 10-14 would be no light.
lvl 15-19 is lava cave. (fully lit)
lvl 20 is demon zone were u have to kill a super strong enemy.
the shops would have best gear and the prices would be extremly cheap (cause of the demon attack)
plus the town is blocked off from the world.
until u kill the strongest enemy.
Possible joke topic, this is 100% Diablo in a nutshell. Or it could be a scenario inspired by Diablo.

Either way, as for scripting, I started with dialog scripts, then more complicated dialog scripts, then I learned about SDFs, then I learned how to make states, and then I finally learned how to order calls so they actually worked. I still have trouble with creature scripts though.

I'm a loyalist canister-infested Shaper about to pack his bags to Gull Island and I'm ready to make another two additions to my group consisting of Alwan and two Drayks. I've got somewhere around 21 intelligence and enough points in my Shaping skills to make any creation, so my question is: how long do I have to wait before I can make some Gazers and Rotghroths?

EDIT:
Could I get Cryodrayks here as a loyalist?

You'll note that the sign does not say "Death to Shapers," which more accurately represents the Takers. I did not put much thought in to what the signs said, but I believe that the sign expresses the Awakened's resentment towards the Shapers rather than a literal interpretation.

Greta got kicked out of the Shaper school, so she naturally has some resentment towards them. But those students hardly count as innocent: they are oppressors-in-training.
Still, at least in the beginning, Greta never openly states that she wishes to rebel against the Shapers. I don't have any specific examples to give you but from the way her dialogue was written, I got the impression that Greta only sympathized with those hurt by the Shapers. Her desire for reform was driven by her compassion for those hurt by the Shapers, so why on Earth does she sympathize with Litalia, a rogue shaper who slaughtered her old classmates and produced rogues to annihilate the populace? It seems inconsistent that one so abhored by the violence the Shapers cause would encourage the use of unrestrained violence to change their ways.

quote:
Lankan doesn't object to magical power, but to the failure of the Shapers to use their power to protect his people. He wants a chance to do better himself.
I got this impression too but his response to breaking the canister still seemed overly harsh and unrealistic. Not only does he side with the Shaper admittedly responsible for his problems, he never asks you to help destroy the rogues.
