Technoctopus, for reports of this sort, information about your computer would be hugely helpful. What sort of Mac do you have and, very importantly, what sort of video card does it have? - Jeff Vogel -------------------- Official Board Admin spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com Posts: 960 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

For now, play the "Older Macs" version of the game. We'll see how things look when Apple releases 10.5.1. There are a lot of bugs in Leopard at this point. - Jeff Vogel -------------------- Official Board Admin spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com Posts: 960 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

The problem appears to be exclusively with the Universal versions on Intel Macs using Leopard. I think I have a way around it, but it'll take some testing and effort. Since to problem doesn't actually affect gameplay, my plan is to wait and see what OS X 10.5.1 brings. - Jeff Vogel -------------------- Official Board Admin spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com Posts: 960 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

Avernum 4 and Geneforge 4: Rebellion Graphics Problem With Leopard When playing Avernum 4 and Geneforge 4: Rebellion on some Intel-based Macs using the Macintosh OS X Leopard, horizontal bands of corrupted pixels will be visible on the screen. This problem has been seen on other applications in Leopard. This thread on the Apple support forums discusses the problem. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5653464 We are looking into the problem and searching for a fix or workaround. Hopefully, the problem will be solved in the next Leopard update. We are working on it in the meantime. Until then, the game appears to be fully playable. We apologize for the problem. - Jeff Vogel -------------------- Official Board Admin spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com Posts: 960 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

Geneforge had many different inspirations, some real world and political, some fictional. Two that stand out among many are the awesome David Cronenberg movie eXistenZ and Eden books by Harry Harrison. - Jeff Vogel -------------------- Official Board Admin spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com Posts: 960 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

As I've said many times in the past, I personally get more work done quickly on a Mac. Thus, doing the game first on a Mac and then porting it gets the game quickly delivered to people using both platforms. This is my personal preference and should not be taken in any way as an endorsement of either platform. Really didn't need to be a poll. Avernum 5 has far fewer trivial monsters, both in the wild and in dungeons. There are 6 new character graphics. 2 human, 2 nephil, 2 slith. - Jeff Vogel -------------------- Official Board Admin spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com Posts: 960 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

The original post was kind of TLDR, but skimming gave me the gist. This is a discussion that has been hashed and rehashed over many times. I'm sorry that people don't like the changes. I feel that Avernum 4 looks better and plays better than the earlier games. I wasn't entirely happy with the plot, but I have entirely revisited that area in Avernum 5. If you didn't like Avernum 4, I hope you give Avernum 5 a chance. I've made a lot of changes. If not, well, it is unfortunate, but I have to move on. And considering how well Avernum 4 is _still_ selling, I'm very glad I made the changes I did. - Jeff Vogel [ Saturday, September 15, 2007 11:38: Message edited by: Spidweb ] -------------------- Official Board Admin spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com Posts: 960 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

Play it safe. Uninstall Avernum 4. Download a fresh copy. Then reinstall that. Sorry that this happened. It's happened to me too. Major hassle. I suugest making several saved games, so that if one gets messed up, you can go back to another without losing everything. - Jeff Vogel -------------------- Official Board Admin spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com Posts: 960 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

I have created a v1.0.2 trial update for Macintosh Nethergate: Resurrection. It is at ftp://ftp.spiderwebsoftware.com/mac/NethergateDemo.v102.dmg It fixes a few small glitches and gets rid of a bug that could potentially cause crashes. (It hasn't so far, but it might in the future.) Feel free to grab it. If you do, a note to spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com if you have troubles would be appreciated. - Jeff Vogel -------------------- Official Board Admin spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com Posts: 960 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

Always uninstall, redownload, and reinstall. Bad downloaded installers creating faulty installations is rare, but it happens. If at all possible, start with a completely fresh download. - Jeff Vogel -------------------- Official Board Admin spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com Posts: 960 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

"That was unexpected." Don't see why. There is a world's worth of difference between online distribution and manufacturing a jillion CDs/cartridges. Sony, etc. will never let me make a full game, but these channels for indie developers are intriguing. - Jeff Vogel -------------------- Official Board Admin spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com Posts: 960 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

"So, more recently, I got the original Nethergate fully registered on the promotional CD which cost fifteen dollars, and I'm not sure that the discounted twelve-dollar upgrade price applies to me. Frankly, I enjoy Jeff's games enough that I will be buying the new version at whatever price, but it would be nice to know for certain before I cut the cheque." The $12 upgrade price applies to everyone who registered Nethergate, no matter how much they originally paid to register it. So you're in good shape. :-) - Jeff Vogel -------------------- Official Board Admin spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com Posts: 960 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

I am actually very interested in XBLA. Every Indie developer is. It is, by all accounts, a very lucrative place to put a game. However, it is also very difficult to get in, and my sorts of games are not something they are clamoring for. I have to compete with far bigger development houses. I am watching events on XBox very carefully, though. Porting a game to XBox is something we'd be very interested in doing if the opportunity opened up. - Jeff Vogel -------------------- Official Board Admin spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com Posts: 960 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

Hokay. Nethergate: Resurrection has a number of improvements and a decent amount of new content. It tooks months of work to develop. I think $12 is a very reasonable price for the upgrade. Considering how many upgrade orders we've gotten, the kind people who pay my salary agree with me. "That's how I feel about the veterans who pay for Nethergate: Resurrection, who have the original game. They got sucked in. Go play the original, you imbeciles." I don't care how in your cheek your tongue is. Nobody comes to these boards and insults paying customers. You hate my games so much? Go somewhere else for a while. - Jeff Vogel -------------------- Official Board Admin spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com Posts: 960 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

"Also, the return of cheeseball is interesting." It interests me that everyone assumes that Solberg's new familiar is Cheeseball. Cheeseball, sadly, expired. (Which is why it wasn't in Avernum 4.) Solberg has a new familiar now, Cheeseball Two, who is more in line with his current mood. Then, of course, there are the others ... - Jeff Vogel -------------------- Official Board Admin spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com Posts: 960 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

I have temporarily put a test version v1.0.1 or Nethergate: Resurrection on our ftp site. ftp://ftp.spiderwebsoftware.com/temp/Nethergatev101.zip Put it in the Netherget Directory and run it and it should fix the two previously mentioned problems. If you have difficulties (or if you try it and it seems fine) let me know here or at spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com. - Jeff Vogel -------------------- Official Board Admin spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com Posts: 960 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |
