quote:I seem to remember Caleb telling me about NSA actually doing something for "the good of computing" with one of their latest releases. He's one of those elitist Gnome developers who gets into big flame wars with KDE types though, so I tend to put everything he says in the "google it first to verify" box. Md. Why is it that every time I see your name, Lord VoldeRmort, I am suddenly reminded of a comic from Elf Only Inn in which a guy misspells his username and ends up busting into the Inn as the omnipotent LORD OF DORKNESS. Md. Posts: 304 | Registered: Monday, October 1 2001 07:00 |

Yeah, I even had trouble with 4 at first. I liked being able to have a Sword dude, a Pole lady, a backup Archer chick, an UBER Mage, an all-purpose Caster and a Priest of the cloth. Made those fricken huge battles heaps of fun, cause you could split your party in half and hold off two sides at once - not that we don't do that with four, it just doesn't look as gnarley. Md. It's just the injustice of it all! If I ever make a scenario (doubtable), I'm going to make it so there's a REASON the bad guy runs off (other than him being a TM Schoolgirl). Or maybe like in Ocarina, how Ganon sends Phantom Ganon after you? It didn't give me pangs of "DAMMIT! COME AND FIGHT ME BIATCH! I'LL KICK YOU'RE ARSE!" when he did that - perhaps because Ganon is legitimately scary. Md. Posts: 304 | Registered: Monday, October 1 2001 07:00 |

That name is *not cool* TM. Had an all-nighter anime screening last weekend at a club I'm in called the Griffith Uni Anime Club (go figure) - they had a hentai hour at 12am. It was... disturbing? I think "strictly no tentacles" has worked it's way into my list of rules about anime. Md. Posts: 304 | Registered: Monday, October 1 2001 07:00 |

Just thought I'd give this one a working over, cause there's a stack of scen designers out there racking their brain for an idea that makes GIFTSs stand on their mandibles. My favorite one (for lack of being able to think of anything else) is when you turn out to be Revan in StarWars: Knights Of The Old Republic. That was a cheerin plot twist - even more completely out of left field, cause I played as a female, and Revan's kinda portrayed as a dude throughout the game. quote:I feel your pain. My girlfriend is an avid violineriser (whatever you call them, with the bows and the coolbie rosin stuff), and she likes to champion Franz Liszt's cause at almost every opertunity. I remember one time we got trashed and played in a stairwell in the Patience Thoms building - THAT was fun. The sound echoes really well in stairways. Oh! And when we butchered some Dvorak in Queen Street Mall for a Film assignment... But yes, classical musicians seem to perscibe to a spectrum; at one end is the urbane, educated suave bastard; the other, a git. Somewhere (probably more towards the git side) sits the Software Engineering student with way too little time on his hands to be jamming with his gf. Md. Looking for someone to further your argument eh? Good luck! Mac OS X is based on the Unix ideology, as (the obviously very well read and experienced) Maaya wrote. Unix is a server operating system, it was made with the intention of being a stable and highly customisable OS to run on big computers where you can't afford things like crashes. Along the way, many of the advancements *nix developers have achieved (and discovered) when it comes to running big computers, have been scaled down for desktop computers. This is why the third fastest Super Computer on earth (that we know of - *gives NSA a shifty look*) is able to run an (admittably highly modified) personal computer OS. Hmmm, I'm going to start a topic on the VTSC, I wanna brag about how cool the PowerPC 970 chip is... Md. Posts: 304 | Registered: Monday, October 1 2001 07:00 |

That would be cool! Someone's gotta make a scen like that. You're sent off to kill this big arch-nemesis Vampire dude, you storm his fortress, kill all his minions, then bash down the door into his chamber. Swords held high, screaming and chanting priest spells, you attack... And he's like, "Whoa! Sick, can I hang out with you guys?" Md. Posts: 304 | Registered: Monday, October 1 2001 07:00 |

*Whinge* Don't you hate it when you're just about to cleave some pshychotic rebel leader in half, and the sissy punk has the nerve to teleport out of there? Or when you're teaching an ancient vampire the meaning of pain, and he does the same. Hmph. Wish I could just be like, "Oh, sorry, I don't really feel like dying at the moment, so I'm just going to teleport, heal totally and send all my henchmen after you." I swear, if one of these bad guys pulls it on me again, I'm going to stomp him. *Gives all the top-notch third-party scenario designers a hard look* Md. quote:I don't know why Jeff hasn't fixed this either. It would just involve a little bit more recursion and pathfinding code when you exit combat - perhaps he's left it as an Apple trademark "feature". Oh, and nasty Frobozz for pointing out Jeff's super-secret hidden ftp temporary folder :P I might just have to sick Cannuk onto you. SHAZZAM! Md. Edit: Wanted to put an obscure Zork reference in. From a software viewpoint, OS X is by far superior to Windows XP. It is rapidly becoming the programmer's platform of choice, especially amongst university professors that can afford beefy G5s. However, the Programming I lecturer (Dr Andrew Rock - we call him The Rock) at my university uses an 800MHz G3 iBook as his waltzing computer (or so they call it). It's basically the computer he takes to tutorials, plugs into the projector and shows everyone what to do on. The Programming II lecturer also uses one (Dr Dennis Hardie - we call him The Hard Place). As does the Programming III lecturer (Don Abel - we call him The Don, and yes, his office is between The Rock and The Hard Place). The reason the Macintosh platform is such a delight to program on is mostly because it's all made by one company. Quality control is pretty damn easy when you know exactly what's going on at any given time by any one of your departments. The second reason (which is almost certainly more important than the first) is that the thing runs on top of the rock solid Darwin layer. Apple used to be a computer company for people interested in the simpler things in life. Now it offers an array of features way beyond most programmer's dreams - and that F11 thing just looks SO DAMN cute! Seriously though, when you're working on a rotten great big project, and you've got a dozen source or header file windows open and you want to have a quick look at all of them, the new Exposé function has pretty much revolutionised that. Ahhh... Good old 1975... I spelt Coalition like Coilition as a pun, excuse my obliqueness. The only non-conservative party in Australia at the moment is the Greens, and they're all to whacked on bulbs to be able to form any real policy. Hopefully Labour will get off their arses and start doing what they know is best, not what the Australian population thinks is. Md. Posts: 304 | Registered: Monday, October 1 2001 07:00 |
