I thought I'd try and avoid corny sarcasms and petty witticisms. I guess it's impossible on the net though.

Ok, I know everyone's heard of Penny Arcade (www.penny-arcade.com, not http://www.pennyarcade.com/ - which is a porn site), but I was just wondering if there were any web comics out there that people here subscibe to.

I tend to read:
the everyday happenings of weebl and sometimes weebls friend bob http://www.weebl.jolt.co.uk/
Something Positive http://www.somethingpositive.net/
Queen of Wands http://www.queenofwands.net/
Dead-Beef http://www.dead-beef.com/

I used to read a good one by one of my friends called Hail to the Geek, which became Code Ninjas. Unfortunately it's down at the moment cause some biatch Slashdotted it.

Md.

Edit: For some reason links don't work when they're in parenthesis.

Edit Mk2: I was just hooning through keenspace, and clicked on this one cause it's banner was amusing: http://www.elfonlyinn.keenspace.com/ It's funny as hell!

It got changed to the now "choices" version. Although they re-worked a lot of the script for the second movie, they decided to leave some "cool scenes" in which otherwise wouldn't've been there.

The entire story and script of the Matrix movies comes from other sources. When they began, the brothers admitted to just wanting to put a whole stack of stuff they'd read and watched as kids into a movie and make it look cool. I'm suprised they didn't include a bibliography.

The movie has no real purpose other than to make money. We can also be assured that this is not the last effort from the Wachowski Brothers.

I'm doing Software Engineering at Griffith Uni in Brisbane, Australia. Just finished my first year. Yay! I think I might just go get bombed - I'm an Eng student, it's my prerogative.

Actually, concerning that, me and my illustrious group of uni friends (which include two MicroElec Eng, a fellow Software Eng chick (the ONLY one in my degree), a Biomed chick, a "Drug Design and Developement" Science major (also known as My Girlfriend), a Lab Science nut and his friend who's name nobody knows, a Journalism Masters dude, an Japanese exchange chick called Audrey, my flatmate Becasaurus, and many other relatively smart people I borrow money off) are having a Monopoly Board Pub Crawl (as seen in Red Dwarf) around Brisbane. We are having a beer at every pub for every purchasable square on the board - we expect this to take upwards of 13 hours (high noon to 1AM). After this we're going out clubbing.

I may not exist on Friday.

Because of the "disproportionate number of members here from Australia" I decided to make a political poll for all my fellow Australians (apparently).

This is two party prefered (like the Yank system), so parties like the Nationals would end up being Liberal, and Greens Labour (usually).

Me! I'm the self-proclaimed president of the Australian Branch of the Spiderweb Software Message Board Members Society. Long name, good Games.

Edit: Also, Australia has fairly poor internet and computer infrastructure, so many of us turn to less demanding games to waste away our time between riding Kangaroos and chucking shrimp on the barbie.

Sorry there Milla, I tend to assume everyone's male on the internet until proven otherwise - just banking on odds.

So what else do you have to do now? I seem to remember doing a Geography one and an History one. Not too sure though - my memory is strained remembering what the start of this sentence was about. Um... Hello.

That's simply not true. One of my friends did a thesis on the energy economy of the human body, and we rank WELL below most of man's machines - including the original steam engine, made by Stephens.

It's one of the big reasons The Matrix has always pissed me off, it's entire reason for existance is flawed. Why couldn't the computers just give everyone a frontal labotomy anyway? Why even give humans a world to live in? Just keep them all in permanent, life-long comas. Sheesh. Damn stupid computers, they're too humane.

He's talking about the School Certificate though, which is the end of year 10. HSC is the HIGHER School Certificate (ie. Uni entry, etc).

I did it in 2000. My gf's little brother is doing it now. *****nez. I do, however, have a Maths exam tomorrow morning at 8:30am. SUCKS.

Arch cut in before Aran could speak.

"When I was a scrub in the Royal training halls of Starkmoor, one of our major areas of study and exploration was into the use of crystal-based shields. You see, a body guard to the throne is only so effective, our teachers thought that perhaps by clouding our monarch in a crystal powered shield, his safety would be much increased."

"Your point?"

"Well, I can't say I remember all that much of Crystal Wave theory, but I certainly remember why the project was scrapped at an early age. The shield's tended to go pyroforic when they came into contact with another material of the same ethereal substance."

"Pyroforic?", said a brawny warrior from one of the lesser groups.

"He means bang," intoned Aran. "And a big one."

Arch squirmed, the memories of the naked violence unknowingly released upon his friends welling up in his mind. "As I recall, three major buildings and a small hill were renovated. Only after that did Starkmoor get it's name."

"Still, there is no reason to frett", said Dern in a suspiciously placating manner...

OOC: I dunno why, but I reckon Dern should turn out to be a bad guy or something, but that's not my decision.

FPS 3D engines have the problem of pixelation because they allow you to get very close to objects, like walls, etc.

Real Time Stratergy 3D engines usually have a maximum zoom level set, so you just make sure that the resolution at that zoom level is still ok. No worries.

Words from staunch atheist (me):

Beliefs do not require proof, in fact, they're not beliefs if they have proof - they're fact. And I'm covering all those words here, like faith, etc.

Having faith in something is believing it to exist without the evidence of proof. To modern sensibilities, this seems like a sham.

Faith is believed to be a term that came into common use in the dark ages as a way of controling and taxing the masses. Through the use of faith, so called "religious figures" could scare the population into submitting to their wills, in a very subversive and underhand way.

It is the common belief of historians studying spirituality, that religions (particularly christianity) are the most advanced and long-surviving scams ever. They are also the most economical. They teach members to convert their friends, they cannot be proved wrong (as there is no logical basis in their beliefs), they have strong political ties and are socialy acceptable.

That's what I think anyway,
Md.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot an 'ity' and an 'are'.

IC: Back at the Hall the surviving warriors were regrouping and seeing to their injuries. Luckily, most of the priests who had journeyed to the island remained, choosing to hang back in the grisly battle. Between them and some alchemically minded townsfolk, most wounds were cured immediately.

For the most part, Arch had managed to avoid any serious damage; this however was more due to his choice in opponents than anything else. Having been trained as a member of a combative unit, his natural fighting style was a pack mentality. Arch fought along side his shipmates and together they alone of the groups of warriors were successful in driving back the evil horde.

Now that the chaos was over, everyone trickled back into the Hall, and their numbers were better than had been hoped.

"I think it's high time we called a council of war!" yelled Zir, slamming the pommel of a giant broadsword down on a increasingly less stable bench.

"I agree!" intoned Pthalos, near slipping back into the guise of Rendall.

"I think we have a consensus on the matter. Shall we adjourn to a less havoc strewn room?" Aran said, calm as ever.

Arch fingered the signet ring around his finger. "I don't really like our chances, but I guess I'm up for it. Shall we Dern?"

Arch got up from where he'd been sitting at the far end of the badly cramped room and started pacing.

"This is so, so wrong." Arch mumbled. Everyone looked at him.

"What do you mean?" Thompson said from behind him, still cradling his fresh bruises.

"For instance, what kind of masochistic nutter invites a veritable army of elite mercenaries to a remote port for the largest tourney in a millennia, and then aggravates them by locking them in what could best be described as a cell? I mean, there's got to be at least five hundred other competitors here, surely we out number the garrison..."

"Someone who's very sure of their power." said a sepulchral voice. It took everyone a few moments to place who had spoken, but once he had everyone's attention, he continued. "Someone who's probably not running a contest. Methinks friends, we have been lured." Gerhalt remained lying on the top bunk, unmoving through his oration.

"If that's the case then I'm not really big on hanging around to find out. Someone get us out of here snappy so we can go and teach this psycho a lesson." With that, Arch sat down, drew his sword and started peeling one of the apples from the table in the centre of the room.

"I get the feeling you shouldn't eat that." Aran said meaningfully.
