Any mac user who read the topic of this... um... topic, probably rotfl - for want of a better expression.

Because the preminant graphic converter for mac (which coincidentaly has a red[ish] logo and is made by a german company) is called GraphicConverter. Shame it's not freeware though!

Sir David (if that IS your real name),

Letters are really good 'cause you can get all your thoughts down on a solid piece of paper then have the responder read them without the opportunity to interrupt. Written word also seems more 'true', or at least it's usually easier to remember.

However, unless you're a fairly decent literary composer, it's difficult to ensure that something you write will be misinterpreted, or the way in which you would've said it will not be misconstrued.

What this means: Letters are brilliant, just make sure you're there when the person reads them, or at least at hand so you can correct any misjudged wording. Boosh.

I've spent far too many hours antagonising over 160 character SMSs to my girlfriend. But I'm a really pedantic git, so hey.

I went through and checked the first 20, then every 5th account after up to 100 in the search area.

You can make it show all of the person's recent posts. How handy.

And who could forget TADS! Ahhh... It's good to see so many first century faces around here, brings back the feelings of yesteryear.

Also, caovhc1 (I hope I spelt your name right) anyone that plays Spidweb games is a friend of mine. As long as their name isn't something to do with wind and they like systematically destroying people's RPs... *grin*

OOC: Ok, first Spidweb RP attempt, so don't burn me if I muff the rules.

Character Name: Arch.
Other Info: It'll come.

IC:

Arch had been holding the ship's wheel when the pesky sailor he'd relieved started jumping up and down and screaming something about a bird - and he hadn't been putting much effort into it either. Arch hated sailing, almost as much as he hated sailors, and after three evilishly salty months the sight of land just about made him want to bury the hatchet. Maybe.

The only reason Arch had been at the helm was due to a slight magical incantation he'd had put on him during his days as a Royal Guard, one that enabled him to go without sleep indefinitely. Bored out of his mind at night, Arch had taken his hand to steering the ugly hunk of wood and had recently started amusing himself by trying to wake up someone to talk to by getting air.

He was however, delighted to let the skipper retake the wheel to guide her into port. Besides, it would give him a better chance at being first down the gang plank and off the rotting tub of a boat when she docked.

At that moment Aran walked onto the deck like a glittering steel tower. Arch himself found it cramped in the 5 foot high cabins, so it must've been brutal for the overly-tall man. Arch had grown to like the man in the months at sea, mostly because his meditation patterns often kept him up. Under that shiny silver and green armour Arch had found excellent conversation. And the occasional sparring match wasn't out of the question either.

"Looking forward to solid ground again, eh?" Arch said as he spritely made the small jump off the aft deck.

"Is Raitt rich?" He said with a wry grin. "Anyway, it'll be good to have some sure footing for fighting again. Maybe you can have a hack at me when we land with that ugly sword of yours?"

Arch looked down at his most prised possession; his only possession. It was a fairly short sword, but it certainly wasn't ugly - Royal Guardsmen's swords were never ugly, especially this one.

"One day I'll put a nice big ding in that bloody armour, you'll see."

OOC: Ok, maybe it's a little big, but I'll be good in future. Sorry about using your char so much Omlette, but there was no one else to talk to IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards New RP The Greywraith Clan1_files/biggrin.gif) . I'll be less talkative as soon as the action starts...

Not necessarily, Jeff has progressed his games a long way in graphical intensity. He's writing games for people who don't have top of the range cheese-graters (G5s). As soon as just about every Spidwebber has a computer that will acceptably run basic 3D routines, you can bet Jeff'll come up with the goods.

One has to remember the software dev creed: Try as hard as you can to keep the people who like your software happy; give up on the critics.

That's a pretty big call, fellow Australian, but I'll post just for the hell of it anyway. I barely have the time to read all of the posts on these boards, so we'll probably miss a fair few.

If only they were running a recent(ish) version of UBB, then we could just go to ultimatebb.cgi?memberstats...

Really REALLY good reason to upgrade to Panther if you're a multi-OS user: Samba 3.

With the inclusion of the latest version of Samba, Windows file sharing compatability is now perfect. You know how in the past you had to o to "Connect To Server...", then select your server out of a list, then choose a share to mount? Gone are the days of that!

Now it's fully incorporated into the Finder. Nice and easy. Hopefully someone will release a program like ShareScan for Mac now.

TLF: Apple have always given their OS versions trippy names. It's just only recently they've become popular. For example, the initial release of OS7 was called Blue by the dev team (who had their own codename - the Blue Meanies).

Jaguar was also the name given to the entire PPC RISC project - a rare peice of info.

There's a giant list of them here if anyone's interested.

Also TLF, explain your problems with 10.2.8 in a clear fashion and I'll try to help.

Hee hee hee. My current girlfriend (I love saying that) was actually going out with one of my friends (for a short space of time), somewhat to her disaproval, when we got together.

The thing is, I had no idea they were!

We've being together for a year or so now and I'm still fairly good friends with her ex. Well, I go to uni and organise Monopoly board pub crawls with him, so we're alright friends.

It was a little more convaluted than that, but you get the gist. Just wanted to share my twisted experience. Never forget that before feast there must be famine!

Most likely your school is very behind the times.

Edit: Thank you MSW, I also had bugger all idea. Oh, and a "Mac-related topic with exactly one Mac-related post in it" can be off topic. It's in a forum whose topic is not Macs.

Dammit, this keyboard has no "kill a person" key.

The next logical step for Spiderweb is to move up to a full 3D engine. One that looks just like how Avernum or Geneforge look now, but actually is 3D, not "pretend".

It's a big one, but so was moving to isometric instead of 90 degree squares. I'm sure Jeff is up to it. Hell, he doesn't have to come up with his own equasion, there's heaps of good ones out there that are free-for-all.

It doesn't have to be anything fancy, it can be locked at an aspect ratio (I'd prefer that), but I'd love to see camera pans and swing-arounds and maybe zoom? If Jeff does decide to do this, hell, I'm putting my hand up for beta testing right now! IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards will spidweb ever change2_files/biggrin.gif)

This is what I'd do anyway. Something like Morrowind or Baldur's Gate is utterly unfeasable.

Hmmm... I remember rushing home from school so I could play the FANTASOFT game called Exile on my mum's LC575. My brother found it on a demo CD one of his friends gave to him for his birthday called On The Rom or something like that (it's 600kms from me at the moment, I'll check later).

I remember the day we registered it. Dane (my elder brother by 2.5 years) came running down the back to tell me. I was climbing a tree.

I probably spent more time watching Dane play it than actually playing it myself in those days.

Now I'm 18 (since april), and doing uni (well, attempting it), and I've got just about every one of Spidweb's games installed on my 800 iBook - running Panther.

I still climb trees.

Md.

PS: I was probably one of the first people who weren't actually in on the new UBB board to get a spot (spidweb's boards used to be infopop or something), I just made a lucky guess and found the signup page before it was public knowledge. How handy!

Ahhh... Don't you just loving having friends/relatives who are developers? In this case, it's my dad IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards Panther is SWEET! (Spoilers - kind of p)1_files/biggrin.gif)

I pinched his Panther install CDs today and went about installing it on my iBook... After backing-up all my files over wifi to my PC (dad said installing it over Jag is shonky), I formated my poor 40GB hd and set about installing it.

First thing - WOW! The new user switching is so cool I made myself another account just so I could mess around with it. It looks like something off a corny old movie, one of those utterly useless graphical elements that widen your eyes and talk like Neo ("whoa"). It's like the Genie thing on steriods.

Everything looks brushed metally now, like Safari and iTunes and all that. Well, it's not brushed metal, but it's close. Matte metal maybe? Oh, Finder is all brushed up too, and it's got an iTunesy like bar down the side. Weird huh?

The menus look different, but I don't know what it is about them... Just can't put my finger on it.

The F9 thing - Exposé - is pretty trippy too, but I haven't really used it yet. I have to click "fn" to get to the function keys on my tiny iBook keyboard, so it's not as handy.

Application switching has the MUCH NEEDED change. You can find that one out for yourselves IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards Panther is SWEET! (Spoilers - kind of p)1_files/tongue.gif)

Anyway, thumbs up. Oh yeah, performance wise it's WAY faster than my 10.2.8 system I had before, but I guess this one's clean, so I'll get back to you once I've installed everything and gunked it up.

Yay for Macs,
Md.

Note: I know this is off topic, but it's SO COOL!

Musicials also like dying at the age of 23 too.

Cash was a champ, and Ritter was good friends with the Grant Naylor entity that wrote Red Dwarf, My Family and had a hand in so many other good Brit comedy shows.

Ritter will be sorely missed by the Brit comedy community, bugger it.

In other news, does anyone know the show Coupling? I think they were going to "Americanise" it for the yanks, but the original will always be the best. One of the actors from Pirates Of The Caribbean is in it - Commodore Norrington. He was good friends with Ritter.

I am unfamilir with the Spidweb version of RPs. Any RP I've taken part in in the past has been more like a fanfic style pass-it-on length story.

I wrote as ArchDuke in this Mediaeval/Magic Story.

Tell us what you think. Would you all mind if I started a "fanfic pass-it-on" style RP?

Borc: The English just have respect for their own. Take Australia for an example - they didn't want to spoil their own country with evil people, so they chucked them on a boat and sent them here.

God damn funny if you ask me.

They might be perfectly upstanding in their own country, but you try putting them somewhere else; they'll trash it. Think Ibiza...
