I had a similar patch when I was sleeping at odd times (read: 4-11am), this was during the school holidays. I forced myself to go to sleep at better times of night, I also started playing sport again, and these two things seemed to do the trick. Maybe by the time I was ready to go to sleep, I hadn't used as much energy as my body had expected, so I stayed awake. I'm also sure that by being strict on when I finally went to sleep helped. I'm certain that this would be a major problem if you got used to going to sleep at 4am, if you let it become normal. It's all about willpower and self-discipline.
