Shadow Wolf held up Bob's cheese model of the Vahnatai fort. "Bob, you genius! You just mapped the whole fort, along with the patrols, right in this model! And in full 3D too!" He laid down the model and drew out a 2D map that he can write on. "This should be simple. There's a downward slope on the east side of the fort, which is a major weakness they never fixed, apparently. We can tunnel our way in, and if we do it right, we'll end up in a poorly guarded storeroom!" -------------------- Urban wisdom is not actual wisdom. "No, it's a shattered corpse being rapidly consumed by the flames you conjured," Shadow Wolf replied. "Oh." "Anyways," Shadow Wolf turned to Re'kar. "Where do we start?" "Ah. We shall enter the Vahnatai lands. Teleporting there will be too dangerous; therefore we must travel there. Follow me." The party followed Re'kar's lead south... OOC: Who do we have now, only counting the active people? me/Shadow Wolf, LF/Mars and Re'kar, Sir David/Sir David, FDoIaN/Cheeseboy (whatever his name is), and FB/god character who seems normal... is that it? EDIT: remember that passage from Formello in A2? we're headed there. OOC: 'skilled in first aid'? i guess that's fine, but it's not much of a skill. anyone with experience in travelling and adventuring would be expected to know at least some. and you don't need to take EVERY skill directly out of Spid games word-for-word. look at Shadow Wolf, and you'll find that almost NONE of his skills correspond directly to any of the skills in Avernum, Exile, heck, even Geneforge and Nethergate. -------------------- Urban wisdom is not actual wisdom. OOC: if FB's character is illegitimate, then i shall finish him off. IC: Shadow Wolf sighed. "He hasn't outlived his usefulness yet, you dolt." Shadow Wolf thrust his sword at the frozen Rojinok, and a shockwave in the air shattered the ice. Problem was, Rojinok was frozen enough to be shattered as well. The blademaster shrugged. "Ah, oh well..." OOC: Shadow Wolf has many powers, but most of them require the sword he wields to work. On any other weapon, it will shatter from his energy, and there will be no effect. That is his weakness - his abilities aren't of much use without his blade. -------------------- Urban wisdom is not actual wisdom. Wise Man and Maestro indeed returned not long after ef mentioned their return. They came back with maps and notes. "We have infiltrated their base in the morning," Wise Man announced. "We have maps of it and the surrounding area, and notes about their troop deployment." Maestro laid out the map, and the numerous notes they made. "They have scouts everywhere now," Wise Man continued. "We killed 12 on our way back. But they have one major blunder: most of their supplies are inside the base, in convenient storehouses. We sabotage the base successfully, and the table is turned." -------------------- Urban wisdom is not actual wisdom. OOC: i hate it when people assume my characters for godlike, when they are not even close. As i said before, Shadow Wolf is like Wise Man in NSI, with the exception of slightly greater speed and that he wields a slender Chinese-style longsword (more about it as the RP moves along). yes, SW is much closer to a ninja/assassin than a powerful knight. he is also quite intelligent and perpetually calm, and would never charge straight into a battle. FB - the fact that your character can't be hurt by a missile of ANY KIND is a sign that he is overpowered. this means anything from razor-sharp shurikens and arrows to magical spells can't do anything to him! The group settled down to have a rest. While cleaning his sword, Shadow Wolf noticed a piece of cloth in some closeby corner of the cavern. He went to take a look. He reconized it the moment he began to approach it. "Gynia..." He muttered to himself. The cloth, a blue scarf with a distinct spiralling silver pattern, had originally belonged to him. He had given it to Gynia as a token of his love... She had worn it all the time ever since. Shadow Wolf put the scarf on, and returned to the group. I shall never remove this scarf until she is found alive. [ Sunday, May 18, 2003 16:13: Message edited by: Metaphysical Wise Man ] -------------------- Urban wisdom is not actual wisdom. I should have killed Claymore instead of cloaking myself when he appeared, Shadow Wolf thought. "If we can't burn firewood, then I'm afraid we'll have to improvise," He said, with an evil-looking glare at Claymore. "You dare to try to kill me, scrawny excuse for a warrior?" Claymore laughed. "Did I say explicitly to do so? No, and if I had to, I could. Anyways, I'm sure there can always be something we can use. Perhaps we can burn the skin of the creatures we kill..." "Very well. Maestro and I will investigate." Wise Man found Maestro just outside the city gates. "Hey, how come I couldn't see you the whole time?" "Because I wasn't there," Maestro answered. "I set up a few poison traps in the crucial points of the field, they might be useful." "I see... We need to infiltrate the base again." "Why?" "Let's just say the enemy's command infrastructure needs investigation." "A good enough reason. Let's go." The two went the same path, cloaked, and reached the base in no time. Maestro entered and drew a map of the base, while Wise Man studied the guard positions and patrols. The two shared their observations and returned to the city, waiting till nightfall to complete their task... -------------------- Urban wisdom is not actual wisdom. OOC: *sigh* most RPs tend to suck after TM joins... and i say 'most' instead of 'all' for safety reasons. IC: Shadow Wolf decloaked behind Ablis. "Go ahead, we could all use a rest." He was tired, and injured from that critical battle against the Great Demon (OOC: this is the Lord of Demon Lords that nearly destroyed his home world, but was defeated by him and his comrades. don't worry about it, there won't be any more references). There were multiple burn marks on his face and cuts in his cuirass that hinted at numerous strikes with large claws. His brother by oath was slain, and he and his love were teleported to different realms when they defeated the Demon. Shadow Wolf sat on the cave floor like a meditating monk, except he was holding his sword. His body glowed for a few seconds, and his wounds began to regenerate much faster than normal... -------------------- Urban wisdom is not actual wisdom. IC: This one can't die yet. Shadow Wolf, still cloaked in invisiblity, held Rojinok (OOC: can't you get an easier to spell name?) back with an arm around his neck. After he stopped struggling, SW pulled him back to the group. SW decloaked himself, and dropped an out-of-breath Rojinok on the ground. "What are you? Nuts?" Shadow Wolf half-shouted, making sure the Imperial troops don't hear. "I assume this Empire is hostile. Just look at those troops in the distance, they outnumber us by far! If you attack him so blatantly, they'll notice, and then we die, you dolt." -------------------- Urban wisdom is not actual wisdom. A sphere of green runes circled near Motrax. There was a flash of green light, and the runes imploded, with a man flying out and into a nearby wall. He was dressed in dark blue, and had long black hair with a silver-coloured headband. The man groaned, and stood up. "At least the Great Demon is defeated..." He took a look around. He certainly did not expect to wind up in a subterranean land. "This is not my world. Where am I?" He approached Motrax. "I knew I smelled human," the dragon boomed. "What brings you here?" "To be honest, I have no idea why I'm here. And you're extremely small for a dragon..." "A Vahnatai sorceress named Rentar-Irhno did this to me." "Vah-nah-tai? Rentar-Irhno? What... Where am I? What's going on?" "This is the subterranean land of Avernum. The Vahnatai are a highly magical race, and Rentar-Irhno is an archmage in that race." "I ... see. This is not my world..." A voice sounded from the sphere of light beside Motrax. So you were pulled from a different world instead of a different time. Interesting. "Well," Motrax suggested, "If you come with me to solve this ... problem, perhaps you might end up back in your own world again." "I will gladly assist. I am known as the Shadow Wolf." -------------------- Urban wisdom is not actual wisdom. OOC: oh man, and i thought i was the only one who didn't understand, so i didn't post about it. anyways, back to the army-stalling... IC: Wise Man took out a bag of signal flares. "Well, these can't go to waste, heh heh." "But how do we know which is which?" Cyan asked. "We don't need to," Maestro answered. "We're not the communications officers for the enemy, and even if there WAS a code, Wise Man will figure it out." "Don't ... forget ... me..." Sullust groaned, while the others were watching Wise Man light up one of the flares. The response was instant. Distant shouts of "Charging cavalry!" and "Phalanx positions!" can be heard. Wise Man went to check what was going on, then returned, laughing. "I fooled them into turtling up in a phalanx formation!" Wise Man lit up another flare. This was a signal for a frontal charge, in this case at nothing. A third flare signaled them to pull back. The fourth and fifth flares signaled them to hold their ground in phalanx formation. He was down to his last two flares. "This had better be good... Cyan and Maestro, you can have the pleasure of lighting these." The signal was, indeed, worth the effort of stealing the flares. it ordered a retreat. By now, they have stalled them for a full day, with the army retreating at dawn. Thinking they should go before they were caught, the four made it back to Kerli, with Cyan carrying Sullust on his back... -------------------- Urban wisdom is not actual wisdom. Wise Man and Cyan met up with Maestro outside the base. Maestro looked alarmed and hurried. "We must move fast. The enemy has begun the march. Let's move through the forest, and enter their base by the proverbial back door. Follow me, I know the way." Maestro, Cyan and Wise Man was a mere 15 minutes away from the base when they spotted a figure stumbling around nearby. They approached carefully to investigate. It was Sullust, barely alive! Wise Man saw that his hands where bloodied and half-crushed. "He did this to his own hands to escape his captors. From the looks of it, he won't survive unless someone stays to provide first aid." "But wouldn't a healing spell do?" Cyan inquired. "No," Maestro answered. "The wounds are not clean; they seem to have a serious infection. Someone needs stay and purge at least some of it." "Well, the base is just nearby." Wise Man announced, "Maestro, you can stay and help Sullust. Cyan, spot for Maestro. I will enter the base and steal a few flares. I won't be long." With that, Wise Man approached the base until he was right beside a side palisade wall. An archer was conveniently asleep at the top. Heh heh. The perfect cushion. Wise Man chucked a shuriken up at the archer, and it lodged itself inside the head and into the brain, killing him instantly. The corpse landed right on a palisade, making a perfect cushion against the spike. He attached a hook (you know, those stereotypical wall-climbing ones on TV) to a rope, and hurled it above the wall. After hearing it lock on to the surface, he climbed up, leaning on the body at the top to keep himself from getting impaled. After searching the base cloaked, Wise Man found the room with the signal flares. He quietly took a few, and leapt back over the wall, making sure to get rid of the hook, and tossing the dead archer's body out of sight... -------------------- Urban wisdom is not actual wisdom.
