He is filled with lies. Exile 2 has a better plot and better gameplay; all Avernum 2 has that E2 doesn't have as well or better is flashy graphics. -------------------- desperance -- je me souviens arena -- et je me souviens de vous Posts: 2449 | Registered: Monday, October 15 2001 07:00 |

I like A2 better as well, like FireDrakeOfIce. I enjoy the Avernum series more anyway, but the way you have to talk with people in E2 is pretty annoying. Wait until you have played E3, BoE, and A#, whatever that number may be. Then you'll know whether you prefer the Avernum or Exile engine. The plots are the same, so you'll just be deciding based on that engine. —Alorael, who also prefers Avernum, although not for the graphics. But that has been discussed to death already, so he'll let it stand at that. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Alorael, look at your keyboard. the little number below that # symbol is obviously the number he meant. he meant A3, in case you didn't get it by then. -------------------- Urban wisdom is not actual wisdom. Avernum 2 has much more of a sandbox feel, y'know? No strategy at all; you just click until the monster dies or you die. The graphics are still terrible, I don't like the 3d feel Jeff tries but fails to cop, and the dialogue system of Avernum is what it would be like if those of Black Isle's games had been dropped on the head while young. The end boss is a cinch, the puzzles are more asinine to appeal to a wider audience -- you know, the ones taken in by stupid parlor tricks like pseudo-3d -- and the item system is unjustifiably oversimplified. And there's no ambidexterity. Avernum 2 sucks. It could have been a contender. It could have been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what it is. And that's all there is to it. Exile 2 is much more interesting than A2. Garzahd is harder, Vahnatai lands seem newer, and more. I prefer the exiles over the avernums, but the standard dialog box sound for E2 annoys me for some reason. -------------------- Grammar wenches beware: This is the house that the malt that the rat that the cat that the dog that the cow that the maiden that the man that the priest that the cock that the farmer kept waked married kissed milked tossed worried killed ate lay in. I will add my moistly pointless vote to the huge landslide in favor of E2, just on general prejudice, and the discount. diet: it's the keyboard, I swear. Well, I've already ordered the E2 bundle, I'm waiting 4 my codes right now. BTW, what happened to the old E2 graphic set? Is it still available? I liked that graphic set. I agree with Alorael, both about liking A2 more and about not wanting to discuss it yet again. Get A2! The plot is the same, but A2 realizes it much better. Normally, I vastly prefer the Exile engine (Exile: Escape from the Pit has the most fun combat outside of the trilogy), but A2 realizes the plot better, can be moderately difficult if set on the highest difficulty rating (no less difficult than E2, which was also a breeze), and (obviously) has better graphics and sounds. -------------------- We're all amazed but not amused By all the things that you said you'd do. Hm. It's hard to say. I myself bought A2 instead of E2, but missed the spells and combat and whatnot. A2 is more finished, but I think I would have liked E2 better. I especially missed the clever puzzles that were rather lacking in A2. Besides, it really says something about the Avernum series in general that I can tolerate (and even enjoy!) the original Exile: Escape from the Pit, when I can't even bear to complete A1's demo area. -------------------- desperance.net -- Come on in, we don't bite.
