quote:Offensive to me: Using the bandwidth of a free corporate message board that threatens to become either not free or not a message board due to bandwidth concerns to make dumb, pointless posts riddled with stupid, intentional spelling errors which mostly revolve around referring to someone else by an in-joke name and laughing at it.Turning every legitimate topic one touches into a crapfest which consists entirely of one and one's infernally stupid buddies throwing nonsense at each other and moderators correcting them on it.Having a perfectly good message board off of SW but still using SW as a little freaking spamfest.Being jerks when confronted about these spamming habits.Offensive to you: Light profanity.Sarcasm.The implication that God shouldn't be the end-all and be-all of one's everyday life during any kind of conversation.Well, crap. Sorry, Sir David! I didn't know how offensive I was being. I guess I ought to tone it down a little? It's new for me, but I think I can manage it. Just because you're not interested in it doesn't mean 'no one' wants to hear it. I'd advance the hypothesis, in fact, that it'd be an indication of the opposite. Your tastes tend to range in a way that is considered low and uncouth by the rest of SW. I know that more of us enjoy political discussions than two or three people filling a topic with mindless bull consisting mostly of meaningless nonsense chuck full of inside jokes only one person gets and stupid, intentional spelling errors. Wait, did I overshoot your vocabulary level on that one? Lemme try again: You don't represent what the people at this board like or don't like. If anything, you represent what they despise. Shut the hell up lest I be forced to bust a cap in your ass. -------------------- desperance -- je me souviens arena -- et je me souviens de vous Posts: 2449 | Registered: Monday, October 15 2001 07:00 |

The point is that you are acting like wagots wherever you don't have rules to follow lest someone smite you. Can you please fall back on the old 'if the conversation won't suffer without it, don't post it' rule? It's getting severely irksome to wade through pages of meaningless, deadwood posts by you annoying bastards to get to anything worthwhile. The French certainly don't pronounce their language like Latin, and they're a lot closer to Latin than we are to German. Basically, better than half of our words come from a source that isn't related to German, so we oughtn't get all pissy about English being pronounced unlike German is. (And on top of that, we're low-germanic and German is high-germanic.) -------------------- desperance -- je me souviens arena -- et je me souviens de vous Posts: 2449 | Registered: Monday, October 15 2001 07:00 |

As I always do, I recommend Turtledove's series beginning with How Few Remain and currently terminating in The Center Cannot Hold {with the, uh, seventh book coming out early August}. In order, How Few Remain, American Front, Walk In Hell, Breakthroughs, Blood and Iron, and The Center Cannot Hold. Great books which I'd recommend reading in that order; if you read them out of order you know how the previous books end, and that's no fun. {Out of all of them, the first is probably the least essential, as the others take place 30+ years after it does.} Genre? Uh, alternate history; the first book takes place in 1883 and the others range from 1914 to 1933. Fun stuff, especially if you know your real history. Of course, it loses SOME meaning if you aren't American, as it's mostly written for an American audience. SM, if you were paying attention, Si-er came back a while ago and took a buckshot round to the face after attempting to steal the weapon of Aiyosz. He is dead and gone by now. -------------------- desperance -- je me souviens arena -- et je me souviens de vous Posts: 2449 | Registered: Monday, October 15 2001 07:00 |

"Not at all." *He lifts his hand and makes sweeping gestures; the body is scooped into one pile and disappears with a flash of light. He makes some similar gestures toward the spread of buckshot in the wall which one of Si-er's illusions was in front of; the metal flies out into his hand. He scoops it up and puts it into a little leather pouch, which he replaces at his side. He extracts three hollow cylinders of an odd, red material from his weapon and places them in that same patch, which doesn't bulge at all for their addition. He glows faintly for a moment, and then snaps his fingers; three similar cylinders, closed at the end, appear in his hands, and he puts them carefully into a hole in his weapon and seals it. He slings the weapon back into its sheath, and makes sweeping motions with his hands. The wood of the walls repairs itself, and the stone melds back into place seamlessly. He sighs loudly, taps a box he wears on his belt, and picks his staff up again.* -------------------- desperance -- je me souviens arena -- et je me souviens de vous Posts: 2449 | Registered: Monday, October 15 2001 07:00 |

[OOC: Imban's post didn't happen, because this did.] *The slith grins. He grabs the gun with lightning speed, turns it around, and pulls a seemingly random switch. He then puts it down.* Slith: Are you aware what you just about did, child? Si-er: You talking to me? Slith: Yes. I'm talking to you. You had the safety on the wrong way. Had you been a fool and discharged that gun, you'd be a dead man now. Si-er: Um... *The slith raises the gun again.* Slith: For the record, I let you have it last time. I don't drop things. Si-er: What the -- Slith: I am Aiyosz of the Low River. What I am about to do is self-defense. *He brings the shotgun to the necromancer's head and fires. The nuisance-mage falls down with a head that bears more resemblance to a smashed tomato than a human head and doesn't get back up.* [OOC: The slith told you nicely to get out, then you stole his gun and threatened him with it. You are a fool, and you got what was coming to you. Don't create some bizzare, contrived plot device to kill my character out of spite, by the way. And for future reference, in a combat situation, have the courtesy to wait for the other guy to post before posting again.] [ Wednesday, June 18, 2003 18:02: Message edited by: La Mort ] -------------------- desperance -- je me souviens arena -- et je me souviens de vous Posts: 2449 | Registered: Monday, October 15 2001 07:00 |

*The slith sighs again. He flips one of the switches on his weapon, then pulls another, larger one. One of the illusions disappears, and the wall behind it is thrown back in splinters. He pulls down on the pump and throws it back out, producing that same click; he kicks the other Si-er illusion away and backhands the remaining necromancer. Despite the slith's slight build, the necromancer tumbles onto the floor. The heel of the slith's boot hits the mage's chest and he aims the tube at him. "If you move, the same thing will happen to your head that happened to your illusion and that wall yonder. I am not a man to be trifled with." *He gets his foot off of Si-er.* "Get up." *Si-er obeys.* "Now git! This place doesn't need mages running around comitting abominations against nature in the name of a fight against a creature they summoned but can't handle by themselves. Go on! Git!" -------------------- desperance -- je me souviens arena -- et je me souviens de vous Posts: 2449 | Registered: Monday, October 15 2001 07:00 |

*The slith sighs loudly. He throws down the staff and pulls out of a sling on his back a pair of long, hollow tubes -- one smaller but thicker than the other, with what looks like a pump attatched to it -- with an odd arrangement of switches about 5/6 of the way to the end, and then a length of polished wooden handle. He pushes down the handle and pulls it back up, producing a satisfying 'click' sound.* Slith: That tears it. Whatever wants into this inn is getting in through me. -------------------- desperance -- je me souviens arena -- et je me souviens de vous Posts: 2449 | Registered: Monday, October 15 2001 07:00 |

Some of you came here after Miscellaneous died, or not long enough before to know what it meant. It meant a place where people could unwind without being looked at funny. It meant a place where the administration put up with idiots being put in their place. And it meant a place which wouldn't accept most of the fools who are currently linking to it, ironically enough. So stop linking to Miscellaneous. It is dead, and it represents a spirit that wouldn't have approved of linking to dead boards for no reason. I consider linking to the Misc board about as appropriate as pissing in a respected man's ashes. It's not coming back, and linking to it will only make this more true. So knock it off. -------------------- desperance -- je me souviens arena -- et je me souviens de vous Posts: 2449 | Registered: Monday, October 15 2001 07:00 |

*The slith rises again. He stares.* Slith: Sit down and shut up. Master: But... Slith: What did I just tell you? Master: Sit down and shut up? Slith: Yeah. This is a civilized establishment. *The slith sits down.* -------------------- desperance -- je me souviens arena -- et je me souviens de vous Posts: 2449 | Registered: Monday, October 15 2001 07:00 |
