quote:Keep in mind that many classical composers that we consider geniuses completely revolutionized what was thought of as music in their day. Take Beethoven for example. He broke the rules of proper treatment of symphonies. Where there was supposed to be a minuet, he wrote a scherzo. In an age where clapping after every movement was acceptable, he tried to make the ending of every movement so indiscernable that people would not know to clap or not. Just because we don't find his music revolutionary today doesn't mean it wasn't. In fifty years, I can guarantee you that kids will find the modern music of today "uncreative" simply because it's been done many times over since. -------------------- desperance.net -- Come on in, we don't bite. It's certainly an intellectual exercise for me to discover exactly how a piece of music works, whether it's classical or modern. -------------------- desperance.net -- Come on in, we don't bite. quote:That's fascinating. Forgive me for not knowing the proper names for these things, but do you play the 27-stringed guitar thing or the small drums? Or perhaps you play the instrument that provides the drone? -------------------- desperance.net -- Come on in, we don't bite. Well, I don't. Posts: 218 | Registered: Saturday, July 13 2002 07:00 |

quote:You answered it yourself. It's most commonly translated as "gigantes," which I imagine means what it seems like, while a secondary definition is "fallen ones" as in fallen angels. I imagine Jeff was thinking about big cats rather than demons, but since the name was given by (presumably) the Exiles, he might have meant both. -------------------- desperance.net -- Come on in, we don't bite. Tsk tsk, someone's feeling nasty today. (edit) kay, I hate being offtopic. (edit edit) But if I see this poem on Dolney's site I'm not going to be very happy. That means NO YOU CANNOT STEAL THIS. Diana goes hunting in a forest dearly known in a land well-loved and kind. A deer sighted? a doe, Diana knows and the hunt has truly begun. Soft the huntress creeps but the doe, she knows and she turns to Diana and looks in her eyes A bow stayed and the doe, she knows and Diana feels fear as the doe feels strength. The roles become right and the doe, Diana knows has been struck in the side, a mortal blow. Diana has hunted in her forest dearly known and her life runs out red with the doe?s. I'm far more cynical and busy, what with college and all, which is going great. Being a music major feels like Harry Potter--I only have classes in what I love. -------------------- desperance.net -- Come on in, we don't bite. Well, I don't. Posts: 218 | Registered: Saturday, July 13 2002 07:00 |

I feel fat-ish since I pigged out this weekend and now I have to write a speech on the flaws in Title IX and how it should be changed. And I hate sports. Goddamn people in the class stealing my goddamn education topic. But in two weeks, I have no school until February, which comforts me. I shall now refrain from posting for another four months. I suppose it was really two months. Eh. [ Saturday, November 29, 2003 22:44: Message edited by: Hawkgirl ] -------------------- desperance.net -- Come on in, we don't bite. Well, I don't. Eh, Italy is fine so long as you remember that the car always has the right of way. And if that scares you, just stay in Florence, where the streets aren't wide enough for cars anyhow. -------------------- desperance.net -- Come on in, we don't bite. Well, I don't. I am torn between tsking at Thuryl for a goodbye topic or thanking him for allowing it to be a generic "everyone at desp except Imby and maybe someone else" leaves topic. I've always lurked loyally on these boards, but lately I've not even read more than one or two topics a day. I don't feel like jumping on a bandwagon just yet, though. See all of you despers around. -------------------- desperance.net -- Come on in, we don't bite. Well, I don't. Posts: 218 | Registered: Saturday, July 13 2002 07:00 |

I shall take this moment to speak for Imban (sorry, sir--couldn't resist): IMBAN DOES NOT CARE NONE OF US CARE STOP TALKING I'm sure PMing Ghost or Drakey would help you a lot more.
