Hm. It's hard to say. I myself bought A2 instead of E2, but missed the spells and combat and whatnot. A2 is more finished, but I think I would have liked E2 better. I especially missed the clever puzzles that were rather lacking in A2.

Besides, it really says something about the Avernum series in general that I can tolerate (and even enjoy!) the original Exile: Escape from the Pit, when I can't even bear to complete A1's demo area.

I think you're reading the sentence wrong, David. The insult is "spineless fools." "Republican" is used as a description of the Democrats because they so often act like Republicans (i.e., do things that adhere to the Republican party's thinking rather than the Democrats' supposed beliefs) it's sickening.

Obviously, I agree with BtI. Democrats = Republicans far more often than they should. I don't think that's an insult at all, just an exposition of stupidity. Of course, if republicanism gets more votes, then I suppose it's not stupid. That's what both parties are mostly after, after all.

*sigh* IT'S HARD TO EXPLAIN, OKAY?

OOC = Out Of Character. It means you're talking as you, and not as your character.

IC = In Character.

Now that you know these terms, any questions you may have can be posted in the topic itself.

Darkwind, I think the only thing anyone will have to say about you is that at least you could spell and capitalize words. You're far too new for anyone to say anything.

King Micah's main reason for leaving was for being very offended about a person he apparently held high esteem for, whereas you are just disgusted about things that happen on any message board you go to. This post strikes me more as begging for attention than as a true farewell.

Now taking bets on how many weeks this one can hold out.

No, if you look closely at Jupiter (the real tomboy, right, Thuryl? ) Merc's hand is obviously going up into her hair, and not pointing towards Merc's own hair. That would be very strange proportions besides, even in anime.

Neptune and Uranus' lesbianism is BAD, and we can't have small children and puppies seeing girls like each other, even if the next scene is Serena and Darien (nearly a ten-year age difference, if I remember correctly) making out.

Before I feel as if I've lost the last remnants of my dignity, let me declare I was so obsessed with Sailor Moon because of the cats. And I stopped watching because Rini is an evil pink ball of cotton candy.

Is there a female equivalent of yaoi? Or is that hentai? Or does hentai encompass all Japanese drawn dirty stuff? I'm personally betting on the last being correct.

Wow. Where does Artic find his pictures? That's the only picture of Sailor Senshi I've ever seen on the internet that doesn't involve...more use of the hands and mouth. The one in blue, by the way, is Sailor Mercury, and the green one Sailor Jupiter. Merc and Jupiter both are big tomboys, or at least as much as a tomboy you can be while being stylish superheroes. The bows and such are of course required to make girly eight-year-olds scream with delight. (What, me, girly? No, never...certainly not as an eight-year-old...)

I think Merc's hand is just drooping over Jupiter's shoulder, and Jupiter is petting Mercury like a little dog. It's pretty ambiguous though.

Hey, since we're on the topic of things Sir David would declare us all sinnahs about and send us to hell, where has he been? I've...almost...missed him. I think it's an ego boost kind of thing.

The last big thing about sodomy laws I heard was a bunch of fundies trying to get a would-be judge arrested so that she (a lesbian with a partner) could not be appointed.

A site I've always found useful for updates on GLBT issues is morons.org. (WARNING: This is a very socially liberal site. Some of you may not like it. That's not my fault. Unfortunately, sometimes it is so liberal some of the posters in the threads are quite anti-Christian, but the writers are certainly not. So I'm not responsible for anyone being offended. And of course it is quite biased against fundies and their ilk. Oh, and cute puppies and children who don't know all the dirty words shouldn't visit either.)

Also, as far as I know the Japanese are rather notorious for being anti-anyone who isn't Japanese. I hear it's near impossible making a living there if you don't at least look Asian, and if you are a Japanese-(insert country that's not Japan here) you might still have trouble. But I've only heard this from a friend or two who went there.

Sir David, I'm not sure "shun" and "ignore" have quite the same meaning, and neither of them seem to describe your idea. I think the proper word would be "boycott." I'm not sure they would rethink their opinions though. When a person is surrounded by people who believe differently than they, they usually become more defensive of their own beliefs, not more open. I think you may have experienced this yourself on these boards when you say something incendiary and no one agrees with you.

That sounds fair to me, David. So long as you understand the limitations of your arguments you can believe whatever you want.

I'm bored with this subject too. What I want to know about morality is why Scorpius is so interested in it. I think perhaps he dislikes people who think they are moral when they're really just people so obsessed with their own lives they do not care for anyone else.

Well...sometimes I want to be moral. Sometimes it saddens me that I can't make the whole world better. I can't. I try to satisfy that part of me by helping everyone I can. The rest of me is quite happy being selfish, thank you very much.

And I'm not sure even the 'moral' side of me is so moral...after all, my true goal is to make myself happy by making everyone else happy. So I am truly selfish. Can one be selfish and moral?

I'm not sure. Is it moral to actively try to right everything if it is only for my own inner peace? And for that matter, is it really my business to right everything? Starving people in Africa are one thing, but what if I am totally confident that killing people with blue eyes will help 'right' everything?

tl, dr: I have no freaking clue. But it is interesting to think about.

Well, possibly, but I do know middle aged former pot-smoking hippies who may not be as liberal as most of you here, but certainly aren't conservative as you all think of me as. We've had debates in history class (informal ones); mine is taught by a former... hippie shop owner... I forgot what those are called... anyway, she smoked pot like crazy and sold it as well, and is now very liberal, and yet she rejects legalization. So... we're not just a bunch of die-hard change-hating Republicans, anyway.
I appreciate that you've actually detailed one of the many middle-aged pot smokers you know, but now the problem is that this is only one. Even if you assure us you know five, or ten or fifteen, your access to people of that type is far too small to draw any conclusions from their ideas.

I have a teacher who is very conservative but crossed party lines in support of Clinton; does that mean that all conservatives liked Clinton, or that all history teachers vote Democratic? No, of course not.

Consider that there are nearly 300 million (300,000,000) people in America today. Even if a mere 1% of this 300 million were middle-aged people who smoked pot when they were younger, this would total 3 million people. Now, I'm not saying that to prove a point you would have to know the details of these 3 million people. But 15 people who have not been randomly selected (perhaps only now-conservative people who were rebellious back in the day live in your town--you don't know) is not enough to base a judgement on.

I would say a survey of 100 people minimum who fit the description would lend much more weight to your assertion that most middle-aged people who used to smoke pot don't think it should be legal (and let's not even get into why that != pot is bad).

Suicide is in fact illegal. I believe the reasoning is that people then have the power to sentence a person to a place where they can get help and rehabilitation.

Sir David, I would like to ask you to please read the posts you responded to (especially Djur's, since you mostly directed your post to him), and consider--merely consider--their points. You are dismissing them out of hand because you have never experienced anything like they are telling you.

You by yourself are only anecdotal evidence. By telling Djur and others that because you have not met anyone that agrees with them--and of course you must have met someone like that in all your 14-15 years of life!--you imply that you have all the information about the discussion at hand. Djur, Rache, and the others certainly don't either, but they are certainly being more open-minded than you. They can admit a point and say that marijuana can be bad for yourself and others especially when smoked--but you cannot even admit that you have not met all the middle-aged former pot smokers there is to meet.

Certainly where you live is a conservative area; I posit that even if anyone in your area has smoked pot, they will be very cautious about admitting such and especially about declaring their support for its legalization.

HawkGirl. Real name = Rebecca

»What is your quest?
To someday be un-busy enough to stay in an RP for more than a week. But hey, on the other hand, I got a $1000 scholarship for college! Yay!

»What is your favorite color/colour?
Dark purple. No wimpy lavender, mind you. Dark, dark purple. A little darker and a little more bluish than royal purple.

»What is your job (If you are unemployed, what prevents you from having more free time)?
I'm going to start offering private lessons on French horn and flute at the middle schools, for a little extra money. I really don't like taking money for helping people, though, so I might not even charge more than $5 a half-hour. That's damn cheap for lessons, but on the other hand I am only (almost) a college freshman.

»What are some books you like?
I'm ashamed to say it nowadays, but one of my favorite series was Animorphs. Right now I'm fascinated with the Wheel of Time series (damn you Robert Jordan!), and really interested in South American literature (especially the great Gabriel Garcia-Marquez).

»What are some movies/TV shows you like?
I am a horribly sad person. Therefore, I don't watch TV, and the only great movie I've ever seen is The Matrix. And I am totally going to the first showing of The Matrix 2 or whatever it's called.

»What are some computer/console games you like?
My boyfriend dropped a load of old games on my lap the other day, so I'm currently playing Worms 2 on-and-off and am completely addicted to Fallout 2.

»What are some bands you like?
My band. Actually, instead of listing bands, I'd like to list my favorite performers--James Decker, Phil Farkas...Tom Bacon. Tom Bacon especially, simply because playing big band jazz on French horn is the coolest thing ever.

»What are some musical pieces you like?
I unashamedly love most Disney music. My better tastes include a healthy dose of Mozart, Bernstein (esp. Candide and West Side Story), Rachmaninoff, and Frank Ticheli (currently Music Theory and Composing professor at USC). Sometimes a little Strauss, but not often, and even less often Hindemith. In fact, the only Hindemith I like is the horn sonata (of course IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards The About us topic2_files/tongue.gif) ).

»Who are some of your favorite members on these boards?
I am extremely jealous of Alorael for taking possession of the extremely cool sig gimmick. Rentboy, ef, X, and some others are my real favorites. And strangely, Alec. It's refreshing to have someone bluntly honest around, I guess. Oh, and just to be a butt-kisser, Drakey. And the Little Miss Grammar Wench, as she was very welcoming. Pays to have a grammar, eh?

»What do you think various members look like?
Alorael looks like the little smiley dude from Fallout with a sniper rifle in his hand. Sodium Cynanide looks like a James Bond-type spy, with the cartoon-like ability to pull large guns out from behind his back. And Rosy looks like a pink, furry nephil. I haven't really imagined anyone else.

»What do you look like?
I have pretty brown hair, and bangs, and glasses. And brown eyes. I hate wearing dresses, so I'm usually in some random shirt and jeans. And my teeth are somewhat misplaced, so I look like a small child when I grin. (I don't want braces as it affects my playing.) I think there is perhaps still a (bad) picture of me on my high school band's site--will edit this post later after I check.

»What did you have for lunch last Tuesday?
Spicy Mexican food. Apparently my gallbladder has aged prematurely, so it landed me in the hospital for a day or two.

»What is your age?
I will be 18 June 4.

»What is your species?
Humanoid with hawk wings extending from my shoulder blades. Also a cat tail extending out my tailbone (duh).

»What sort of computer do you use?
I had a Performa for the longest time. However, I finally bought this 733 Pentium III in order to play Nethergate (and by that time Avernum as well). How I survived so long with only 8 megs of RAM is beyond me.

»What planet are you from?
Earth. I think the "real" HawkGirl's planet of origin is called Arianus or something, beats me.

»Are you male, female, or "other."
I think the answer is obvious.

»How many holes do you prefer in the ceiling?
One--for the chimney.

»When did you last brush your teeth?
A couple of days ago. I'm bad.

»Do you feed lemons to your pet alligator?
No, in fact I enjoy sucking on raw lemons so much I keep them all for myself.

»To whom are all your base belong?
To my marching band's saxophone section, whose crazy section leader made up a melody to sing the entire badly translated introduction to. I think that wins.

»What region of the universe are you posting from?
The Milky Way. Sorry, I know I'm dull.

»What does (§³·ß)Ð/µª=ƒ mean?
It means I'll have to graph that next year in calculus. (blech)

»What is the appropriate usage of the word "EVOL"?
After witnessing Shaper Master and Tails mutilate it, I believe the word should be restricted only to describing Saunders. Where has she been, anyway?

»Did I forget anything?
I dunno. Beats me.
EDIT: I put the best picture I could find in my profile. I'm the one facing the other three girls and gesturing at the camera. My three horns are (left to right) Chelsea, Laura, and Leya.

Shocked at all this racket, Aria reads a scroll of Silence. She smiles to herself as the music and arguing is muted. She reads a Summon Beast scroll, then kills the rat that appears and roasts it with a Bolt of Fire spell.

Suddenly noticing the angry, mute, faces around her, she says irritably, "Oh, come now. I just wanted some peace and quiet for a minute or two. The spell will wear off any second now."

She offers half the roast rat to Rosycat as a condolence. When the others complain, first wordlessly, then with voices, she simply says, "You can have the other half of the rat if you want, but it was going to be my snack." Everyone declines and returns to arguing about music.

A female with large hawk wings soars into the bus via the conveniently placed hole in the roof. She lands gracefully in the aisle and then proceeds to fall on her kitty tail as the bus hits a pothole.

"Ow!" she yelps, rubbing her backside. Grumbling, she goes and sits down to the small nephil in the back, who looks at her curiously.

"If you don't mind me asking," she says, "how do you manage to fly with a nephil tail instead of a hawk one?"

"Same way I manage to fly with wings too small for my body weight," the hawk girl says. "Plenty of Flight spells."

Okay, so I met the thief boss at Lorelei, and bought his Anama rings. And I could be wrong about this, since I never bought Exile III, but isn't he supposed to give you Dirty Anama Rings? Instead he gave me typical Anama rings, and everyone welcomes me. I have all my mage spells, but I haven't tried buying any (I had all the spells by the time I got the rings). And Ahonar doesn't realize that I didn't get my rings from him. I even have conversation options to try and convince people to be Anama. So is this a bug, or am I just mistaken?
