quote:That's something I'm working on. I think I can do something with the START_STATE, which is called every turn the party is in the area. I think that rest-checking like in Revenge would be a lot easier to do in BoA, but harder to make it coincide with day/night cycles. The tick counter goes to 30000 and then goes back to 0 for some reason. It does account for outdoors and indoors - 10 ticks pass for each one indoors, or 5 when on a horse. EDIT: If you set the scenario underground, there are no day/night changes, so forcing rest would be much easier and look nicer. (OOC: The Solarans are not attacking the Kylenians. They never have been.) General Frederic marched his army south, coming up against ragtag bands of what he thought was Ironclad resistance. When he got to the river, he met a strange assortment of Ironclads and Kylenians talking and planning. Thinking that they had joined forces against them, Frederic ordered his troops to scatter, and he and a messenger approached Karadas and Hugo. "What matter of foulness is this? Such an assortment of men can bring about no good." "Ah, my dear misguided Solaran, we band together against a new menace, one which threatens us all," replied Karadas. "And what menace would that be? Certainly not the Solarans!" "Of course not. There have been organized rebellious armies calling themselves the Populist Republicans, and they aim to remove the office of Emperor completely." -------------------- "At times discretion should be thrown aside, and with the foolish we should play the fool." - Menander ==== Drakefyre's Demesne - Vahnatai Did Do It desperance.net - We're Everywhere The Arena - God Will Sort The Dead ==== You can take my Mac when you pry my cold, dead fingers off the mouse! The revolutionary fervor struck Solaran lands too. Whereas the Kylens had drawn a large force away to attack the Ironclads, and the Ironclads were in complete disarray, the Solarans still had an incredibly large defense force. The port cities were kept secure by the Solaran guards and by SAFT, while Solaria was orderly under the Imperial Guards of Sol. In the outskirts, however, farms and guard stations were attacked and burned. Jehan Sol soon showed why he was renowned for his military prowess. All large cities and the important mining towns were all immediately fortified and had their guard detachments doubled. This confined the Populists to the smaller cities and village, where they were not met with much sympathy. The farmers were always treated well by the Emperor, as they provided a needed source of food and made their living through hard work. That left the smaller cities, where the people were underrepresented and largely ignored. These places were revolutionary stewing grounds and raids by Solaran troops only did a little to stop them. The Solarans immediately secured all of their navy and guarded it to keep it out of Populist hands. Keeping their troops at the southern border, and even reinforcing it, they tried to prevent Populist troop movements from the south. -------- Lt. Gregan, from his position atop the northern pass, saw Populist troops moving rapidly west. He ordered his troops to let them past. as they were going west, into the Kylenian heartland. -------------------- "At times discretion should be thrown aside, and with the foolish we should play the fool." - Menander ==== Drakefyre's Demesne - Vahnatai Did Do It desperance.net - We're Everywhere The Arena - God Will Sort The Dead ==== You can take my Mac when you pry my cold, dead fingers off the mouse! The first troop ships arrived at dawn. Completely SAFT independent, three galleons with 500 troops each, and five transport ships carrying 1500 troops each came ashore in far north Ironcladian territory. 8000 troops marched south, under the command of General Frederic. In the first village they came across, the Ironclad guards were slaughtered, farms were raided, and the troops moved on. The first large city they came across was heavily guarded, but they were distracted by Lord Janson's news of their surrender to the Kylens. When the guards saw the Solaran banners galloping towards the town, they opened the gates and threw down their weapons. Several were killed to make an example, and the rest were bound and tossed into the dungeon. General Frederic met with the mayor of the town and Lord Janson. The meeting seemed to go well - General Frederic came out of the meeting with blood on his sword, the mayor came out smiling, and Lord Janson didn't come out. At all. Leaving more troops back to secure the city and the surrounding area, the Solarans headed south, towards the heart of Ironclad territory. -------- Jehan Sol, in his council room, finally accepted SAFT's offer. Upon learning of the doomguard, he immediately sent mages down to study it. If they could, he'd want them to make it his personal bodyguard. Along with the mages, he dispatched Captain Kevin from Fort Keaziz, along with a team of men to secure the warehouse and keep it safe. -------- The Solaran contact in General Warderson's army received a message from back home to deliver to the General. He resigned himself to capture for the good of the Solarans, and he opened the note. "General Warderson, It has come to our attention that your are being besieged by offers for your allegiance upon your return to Pralgrad. I can tell you that Kylen has no plans for you at the conclusion of the war. He plans to give Jehan Sol Grand Dukedom over the continent of Aizo. Gideon Ironclad is fleeing his cities on horseback and the Ironclads are being sneakthieved from the north and south. There is no future for you there. His Imperial Majesty, Jehan Sol, would invite you to fight with him to secure the throne from the pretenders, and then he promises you dominion over all of Aizo. Sincerely, Jehan Sol" -------------------- "At times discretion should be thrown aside, and with the foolish we should play the fool." - Menander ====<br />Drakefyre's Demesne - Vahnatai Did Do It desperance.net - We're Everywhere The Arena - God Will Sort The Dead ==== You can take my Mac when you pry my cold, dead fingers off the mouse! OOC: The Solarans have the entire cargo of the Falcon stored away in warehouses where it has all of its confiscated shipments. Upon receiving news of SAFT's offer, Jehan Sol shook his head. It was what he had expected, but it was not what he had hoped. "I can't just let her control all Solaran trade. Tell her SAFT can control all sea trade, but only if it comes through the port of Easton on the Jazen coast. That's where all of our sea operations will be concentrated anyway. And we'll compensate them for the extra work in silver." Linda nodded, sighed, and set off back to renegotiate. (OOC: I liked the first version better, Arancaytar. Also, I'm pretty sure that the Solarans would figure out what was in the Falcon soon enough anyway.) The completion of the first five Solaran troop transport ships was met with stony silence from Commandant Krilon. The completion of the three galleons designed to escort the transport ships resulted in slightly more enthusiasm. Caravels and barges churned out by private contractors also began to float into the harbor, and merchants of all sorts began to set up an intricate and military-supervised trading system. SAFT representatives arrived the next week. They were briefed by middling officers of the army. The next day, they met with the naval commanders under Admiral Tuncay, and the distribution of the navy was organized. Still, nothing was official until the two negotiators returned from SAFT headquarters with a contract. Until then, the sea captains waited and inspected the ships, much to the annoyance of the Solaran sailors. Not part of any deal were the ships engaged in the blockades, at least not until they were included in one for more leverage by Linda and Taron. Now they focused on disrupted communications between Ironclad sections and separated Kylenian sympathizers. All news reached Solaran ears as well, but for all of this new sea exploration, the Solarans' land operations faltered. Now consigned only to fortification and defense, the soldiers not conscripted to the navy could not mount many offensives, save for the heroic exploits of Lt. Gregan's troop. Dug in and expecting an eventual onslaught, suspicions began to arise among the men, and they grew restless. Jehan Sol angrily threw the documents onto the mahogany conference table. "What the hell does she think she's doing?" "Er, exalted sir, she's trying to secure us sole use of SAFT sailors and trade routes." "But by giving away our navy? We can't trust them not to turn on us." "Exalted sir, I'm sure that we could secure some deal where we place guards on all of the ships." "That would still be unfortunate. I want a policy of zero tolerance. You are going to find someone to help her negotiate this." "I believe I have just the man, exalted sir." (OOC: Arancaytar, your character has just been dispatched to aid FZ/Linda.) ==== The attack on the fortress was finished as suddenly as it had come. It had all been for the element of surprise, and all of the ships were well guarded. Some Ironclads were killed, some were captured, and the rest fled. Among them was the commander of the attack force. Commandant Krilon quickly ordered Captain Kevin to pursue him. ==== With another trail of dead Kylens and Ironclads in their wake, the commando group of Lt. Gregan made their way down to the important mountain passes. They saw the buildup of Ironclad guards, as well as the movement of Kylen armies. Gregan ordered his men to take up positions high in the mountains, above the passes. The four mages took up positions between each pass and began to establish a system of communication. Others began to stake out fortifications. A little while later, several boulders were rolled out to the edge of the passes. Tied on with ropes, they would be released as soon as the ropes were cut. There they stayed, as they waited for the latest troop movements from the other sides. A messenger was sent back to Solaria to request reinforcements to help them hold the passes when they eventually took them.
