I don't think I've ever cheated in a SpidWeb game; the dirtiest trick I've ever done is save the game, haste a character, send it exploring through a difficult dungeon, then load again and play the dungeon normally. -------------------- I was going to buy a copy of The Power of Positive Thinking, and then I thought: What the hell good would that do? - Ronnie Shakes Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

Actually, even the phrase 'games cure cancer' wants to be changed to 'games cause cancer'. I'm in no position to judge whether or not posts about community lore has increased in the past few years, having only been here for one. However, I can say is that the horrendous signal-to-noise ratio that SpidWeb is experiencing right now is not entirely due to spam posts. While I acknowledge the possibility that some oldbies might derive orgasmic pleasure from maintaining a strict initiation process, I'm sure that nobody starts posting in General because they're attracted to this. All I can say is that I came to General after over three days of not checking it and found nothing of interest. If no original content arrives on General, I'm going to eventually fade away with no regrets. -------------------- A friend of mine once sent me a postcard with a picture of the entire planet Earth taken from space. On the back it said, "Wish you were here." - Steven Wright Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

I have noticed that some infrequent posters have locations very close to mine. Never been tempted to track them down. It's not safe to meet people you only know over the internet, you know. -------------------- A cop stopped me for speeding. He said, "Why were you going so fast?" I said, "See this thing my foot is on? It's called an accelerator. When you push down on it, it sends more gas to the engine. The whole car just takes right off. And see this thing? This steers it." - Steven Wright Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

Aw, shucks. I was hoping at least one person would take a look at the problem and declare, "Well, obviously 64 = 65." It's fun when they do that. wz.As has it right; it's based on Cassini's identity. By jftsang: quote:Jeff Vogel programs in C++. JV also stated that he will not make an 'Avernum Online', and I highly doubt that he'd help out or let people use his source code. So unless you want to rewrite Avernum from the ground-up and risk copyright infringement, I suggest you use your programming skills on something completely original. -------------------- Indian people live in the hottest climate and we're covered in hair. True. The Mackenzies weren't confused. Merely drunk. EDIT: Wikiquote needs better spelling. -------------------- Now non-Indian people think they know all about arranged marriages. "So I hear that when you're born, the first thing your parents do is chose a nice girl for you to marry when you're old enough." No, No! It doesn't work like that. Arranged marriages are more like going to a car show. Your dad let's you look at and compare all the cars. "Oh that one is nice. You would like that one, you like it? Yeah, you are going to get that one." "Don't I get to test drive it?" "No, not now, wait until you are married, then you can test drive it all you want." - Russell Peters [ Thursday, February 15, 2007 12:42: Message edited by: Dintiradan ] Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

Wait, didn't someone derive a formula for calculating the level of oldbiehood a few months back? I don't remember much, other than that the letters for each term taken together spelt something. EDIT: Clarity -------------------- I love the reaction I get from people when they learn I am Indian. I go "I'm Indian." The other guy goes "Oh, Indian... I like curry." "Oh, that's nice." - Russell Peters [ Thursday, February 15, 2007 12:23: Message edited by: Dintiradan ] Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

By Aran: quote:A simple 'generation' scheme doesn't cut it; this is SpidWeb, after all. I suggest we use the 'Circle' ranking system characteristic of most secret societies. Anyone who was on the Ikonboard is a member of the 'First Circle', or 'Inner Circle'. Those who fall under the accepted definition of oldbiehood (no one remembers when they joined) are members of the 'Second Circle' (Aran's 'Grandparents'). The 'Third Circle' and 'Fourth Circle' correspond to Aran's 'Parents' and 'Children'. Seeing as I came up with the idea, it's only fair that I receive honourary induction into the Inner Circle. Let the hidden rites commence! -------------------- Order of the Stick!
