I actually suspect the boards may become less harsh if moderation steps up. Normal members have always moderated each other's behavior, and it works pretty well for newbies who make honest mistakes. But we don't have the authority to stop repeat offenders, so it gets coming up, and we keep derailing threads. That wears on people after a while, and it becomes more likely that they will be angry, rude, or dismissive instead of helpful. Plus, as more people get sucked into self-moderating and without a concrete standard of what is acceptable and what isn't to fall back upon, people develop their own ideas. This leads to confusion over what is allowed and more policing as people crack down on those who honestly shouldn't be telling others what to do. It only takes one error in judgement or one temper to fray before a thread snowballs out of control. And there are so many of us that it happens a lot. Official mod responses are often final enough to prevent this bickering. Originally by Slartucker: quote:And none taken. Dikiyoba. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

Given how quickly you can get three levels of create thahd, essence and battle shaping skills might be more of a deciding factor. It's a pity only the duration of restoration spell increases and not the amount of damage it heals. Dikiyoba. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

I think that's intentional. The table room is the only way out of the scenario, so of course you want to pick up everything you had before you go. But if you don't want to leave just yet, then you don't warrant getting it back, because you haven't solved the puzzle of why you lost it in the first place. Dikiyoba. TV has no combat, so you can do it with whatever party you want. Given the atmosphere, a low-level party may feel more appropriate, but it doesn't matter in the least. Dikiyoba. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

Argh, why do you keep bringing up this thread without anything useful to say in it? (I suppose that would go for any thread, but I'm a lot more sensitive to it in this one since I monitor it so closely.) Anyway, an update. I've got my new site and am slowly working on transfering everything (no link yet since I'm nowhere close to being done). I'll probably leave my Freewebs sites up and just add a link to them for the new site. Actually, it's kind of nice--I haven't looked at Episode 1 in about a year, so I've forgotten enough about it to make rereading it exciting (and to catch all those little typos that still exist somehow. I swear they spontaneously generate.) And now Dikiyoba has started every paragraph in this post with an A. Just because. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

By the time you factor in all the people who register and never post, all the people who register to ask just one or two questions, all the people who register and just hang around for a month or two so that you never get to really know who they are and remember them, all the bots, all the multiple accounts (of both well-known and not-so-well-known people), and then finally all the well-known active posters, it's not surprising to be surprised by how quickly the numbers go up. Dikiyoba is frequently surprised by it. Of course, Dikiyoba is also surprised to learn that Titanic is over ten years old, so... Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

Originally by Nija_Halycron: quote:First of all, having 30 puresteel breastplates would be very unrealistic in and of itself. Second, it's a game, which means that realism often has to stand aside for gameplay that will make the game fun. Your character never has to eat, sleep, or go the bathroom, because that wouldn't add anything to the game but tedium. If it bothers you, justify it--maybe your character throws off their pack whenever combat starts, and that's why no AP is ever lost. quote:It's also worth pointing out that several BoA designers don't like Geneforge very much, if at all. Originally by Nija_Halycron: quote:*rereads list of demands* Bye! We'll miss you. No, seriously. Jeff makes slow, incremental improvements in his games. He doesn't have the time or resources to do a major overhaul every game. And why should he? Most people grumble a bit, but buy the next game anyway. Putting more time into it and then raising the price isn't an option--there are enough young players who have trouble getting 25-28 dollars to pay for games now. And some of your suggestions are just impractical. Ten new creation types? That's a lot, considering we only have 15 Shapeable base types now. How do you make each one unique, useful, and balanced when battle creations as a whole already fail that test? And how do you explain in-game the remarkable advances needed to make ten new creation types? I never did quite buy the new creations in G2--the base three I understood, but they were so new that being able to shape the 3-skill version without problems seemed unrealistic. Or the packhorse idea--why do you even need it? Jeff changed encumbrance so the weight of items in your pack doesn't matter any more. Dikiyoba.
