I think that the beast thing for you to do, is to put a special node on the place you want the item. In the node, make a SDF (so the thing will be triggered eventually) and put a call for a dialog message, telling you found something in it. Something like this maybe:

if (get_flag(X,Y) == 1)
message_dialog("your message",""); //message you find an item
char_give_item(char number, which item); // This call gives the item
set_flag(X,Y,2);
break;
You should put a call for changing SDF (X,Y) to 1, or else the message wouldn't appear, and the item wouldn't be given. This you have to put however in the place where you want the party to discover that there is an item in the barrel.

OK.

Its time to let that foto appear more funny than its now. how would think that thing that once was an animal would look in a pink evening dress?

:eek:

Wow.

That really look.... enormous.
With a two high door, do you mean a door that is really very big, like big castle entry gates or something (if you understand what I mean). By the way, is there something you would really like to see in a scenario?

That really sounds like something I'm not going to do. Wel, height back to 1 then... (but I'll still try to find an other way). Dahak, anyway, thanks. :)

Now I think its time to find a different way to get this topic a live.
Since my scenario will be finished in probably a few months (if I work very, very hard) I thought, what would people like to have in a scenario. Now please note that I already have my scenario almost out into detail on paper, so I'lle probably wouldn't implement much requests, as it will make things complicated, but maybe I could put it in. you never know.

So, if there is anything that you would love to see in a scenario, don't hesitate to ask it here, and maybe you'll see it back in my scenario:"Where the rivers meet."

(This is not a thing for me to really get ideas from, but more a sort of "be nice to the public" sort of thing).

EDIT:
But please don't start requesting things which I can't do. I'm only a beginner designer.

As I already said, the story is what I want to see changed. By now, I think, the "Avernum vs the Empire" sort of thing is already done to much. We already were in the last stage of this story in BoA, and therefor, I think something new and maybe radical has to happen, to let things florish a bit. As was suggested, a new still undiscovered area of Avernum might be cool, but I think there should really be some new things about the Vahnatai. An ancient, very powerful society can't just disappear like that. It has to come back somehow. (Only this time, I hope there wouldn't be something like the second chapter of Av 2. Because that I found really irritating).

Now I really do agree with you, Kelandon. I hope he isn't going to change this, or it will ruin my Avernum pleasure. (this is also the reason I don't really like Geneforge).

I actually hope that the only thing that will really change is the story, and not so much the game itself.

I really don't know what the game does with it, as I have the demo version of BoA (I'm going to register the game in less then a week, because I'm home on sunday). I was quite amazed to see it happening, because in Avernum 3, the town walls are very high, but windows of the guarding houses next to the gates don't show up many times on top of each other. its just one time, and the rest is just normal wall.

about the teleporter, I though maybe somebody could give fresh ideas. did somebody for instance use Drakey's method? I didn't, cus of the reason i metioned above. Does it work?

I just wanted to ask this, before I buy something that's not what I wanted: What exactle is the difference between FS 2002 standard and the proffesional edition. I ggogled for the answer, but I eventually didn't have the patience to continue searching.

EDIT:

Just one more question: is the crash realistic? In FS 98, only the small airplanes crashed in a nice way. the big airplanes didn't. Is this improved?

soemtime earlier, I looked at screenshots of FS 2002, and I saw, that actually on the graphics part of the game, it looks very similair to FS 2004, so, why should I buy FS 2004, what's so great about it?

I never aimed at the best, and don't really need the best. I could easily settle with FS 2002, as long as it fulfills the points I menioned.

About orbiter: I don't really like flying in space. I'd rather fly with a big boeing 747, from Schiphol to JFK, loaded with passengers. You get a feeling of power when flying with such a big airplane. that's what attracts me in Flight Simulator. If I'd liked combat and small aircrafts, I already have a really great simulator: Falcon 4.

$30 !!!!

HOW CHEAP!!!!! I probably live in the most exspensive place on earthg then.... In Holland its very exspensive then. The problem though is, that if I buy it here, in Aerica, my mother would get to know it, and would shoot me for that. If there is one thing she hates, its that I play computer games. (I could of course wait a few years and bur FS 2004, but then a newer version will already be available, and I want NOW a FS game. But thanks for pointing out to me that you can get it cheaper.

I'm afraid Amazon isn't a solution, because I would need a credit card number, which I don't have. I would have to ask my mother.....

Well, Ben,

You're right about that but think of this:

FS 2004: about $60

FS 2002: about $25

Understand the point here? not that I don't have the money, just want something cheaper. I'll buy an other version when FS 2010 is out or something (if its not FS 2009 or FS 2011 that comes out).

anyway, I'm also going to buy BoA as soon as I'm back home again (This message is posted from a place near Washington).

At the moment I spend a lot of money, so I'm trying to buy thins that are cheaper and almost as good as the newest version. I just got a new trombone, which I paid a part of it, about $400, then also FS2002 and BoA is $50. I'm beginning to feel the bottom of my purse....

This topic is probably far to general, but what the heck.

Since Flight Simulator 2002 is slowly getting older, its price dropped more than 50 %, so i think of buying it. At the moment, I only have FS 98, and compared with FS 2002, its extremely old. Can anybody here of you tell me if the following things are true? 9so its really worth buiyng it?)

1) The airports are much more detailed, and they contain much more airplaqnes driving around, taking off and landing (this my most important point to buy it. The situation in FS 98 is really getting irritating. For example: Schiphol, one of the worlds largest international airports, were every day more than 150 airplanes take of and land, is completely empty! not one airplane to be seen in FS 98! imagine O'hare international airport completely empty. is that realistic?).

2) Planes are more detailed and there are many sorts of airplanes driving around (in FS 98, O'Hare international has only ne type of airplane riving around, in lots of colors. Actually, that is quite stupid.)

3) the terrain contains more (detailed) houses.

4) the hole interface is nicer and better made. cockpits are more realistic, and more flyable airplanes have a 3D view.

that's about it I think. Are most of these (certainly point 1) true?

Hi.

I'm now in the vicinity of Washincgton DC, and I thought I'll stop by to freshen up the topic.

I came up with some new questions:

1) When I want to make a wall higher, I change the wall height in the town details screen. The strange thing is though, that when the game makes an higher wall, it copies everything standing on the ground. So what you get is a wall that has to doors or two windows on top of each other. Is there a way to fix this?

2) this is an old question: does anybody still have an other way for teleporting to an other town, that hasn't been posted all ready?

I had more questions, but I can't remember them. maybe tomorrow I will.

OK. I'm sorry to say people here limit their imagination very much. This tool use problem... it really isn't necesarry. Look, we are talking here about a not existing lifeform, so don't be so unoriginal. How do you know they need tool use. how do you know they manufacture things. Now think a bit before posting replies that just say what others already have said. You are in a cave. a lifeform living in a cave, actually doesn't need houses. maybe a fence or something. Its not that it is going to rain in a cave. the cave is, in fact, a shelter in itself.

Now the next point. Now we are talknig about houses and shelter, these are made with tool use. Agree? how do you know the lifeform needs it. WE need it. Maybe THEY don't. Everyone limits his imagination to what we are used to of ourselfs. WE make houses and use tooluse, so also THEY do.

Kelando said somewhere earlier, that civilization can only exist if you have limbs, so you can have tool use. How do you know that civilization is the same with this lifeform? we are now talking about how WE know it. maybe it isn't the same with them. Maybe they don't need shelter, maybe they don't have gods (the Vahnatai don't have gods as far as I know). does ANYBODY understand my point?

The vahnatai are the most evolved race here. They are also very strong in magic. I like their clothes and names. (and they are the only damned race that IS original and a bit different from the other species, although they still ARE humanoid)
