I've noticed something interesting about a few of the sound effects in Exile III. A long time ago, I had an educational program that taught Spanish. Whenever I got an answer right, it would play a sound. Two of the sounds were very similar, if not exactly the same, to the ones in E3. They were the trumpet sound (when you entered a town) and the guitar stroke (when one of your characters levels up). The company that made the software was called ProOne or something. Did Spiderweb Software ever sell any of its sounds to educational companies, or vice versa? I'm just curious. -------------------- Please visit my website: http://geocities.com/dchia1010 my forums: http://freechat.tk Posts: 76 | Registered: Wednesday, January 30 2002 08:00 |

If you could invent items for the Exile series, what would they be? Here's one I made up for Exile 3: Pixie dust (inspired by Peter Pan) It would come in two varieties - regular and refined. One use of the regular pixie dust would allow the party to fly for a short time, as if casting the Flight spell. The refined pixie dust would allow the party to fly longer, as if rubbing the Orb of Thralni. An interesting twist: Maybe one of your characters would sometimes become allergic to the pixie dust and get sick (but the party would sitll fly). Refined pixie dust would not have this effect. -------------------- Please visit my website: http://geocities.com/dchia1010 my forums: http://freechat.tk Posts: 76 | Registered: Wednesday, January 30 2002 08:00 |

Sorry for bumping this up, but the Anama are hypocrites. Shouldn't Priest SPELLS still be considered magic? Oh, and the "items crafted through holy powers" and whatnot still belong in the Magic category. Oh, and if you rob their tmple, they use Quickfire as defense. And what's that? A MAGIC spell! -------------------- Please visit my website: http://geocities.com/dchia1010 my forums: http://freechat.tk Posts: 76 | Registered: Wednesday, January 30 2002 08:00 |

highest damage you've done? in The Exile Trilogy

Well, I got some new records: 63+63 with a Black Halbred 33 with Fury Crossbow For melee without assassination, I suspect that the highest damage possible (with curse, paralyze, and bless) for a character at level 50 with the maximum strength and the Exceptional Strength trait is: 2*damage + bonus - enemy's armor With bless, the weapon stats are 20d + 24b. Sure enough, I have not been able to hit over a 63. For ranged attacks, I think it's a bit different. With a Fury Crossbow and magic bolts on another level 50 character was 33 damage, again using curse, paralysis, and bless. I don't know character strength determines ranged damage (although it wouldn't be very realistic for a crossbow). With the 17 base damage for magic bolts, I was able to hit 33, which seemed consistent with 2*damage - armor. However, with an infinite arrow (9d + 1b?) and archer's bow I was able to hit at least 20. But then again, I don't think that character has the Exceptional Strength setting. Maybe I'll experiment a bit more. -------------------- Please visit my website: http://geocities.com/dchia1010 my forums: http://freechat.tk Posts: 76 | Registered: Wednesday, January 30 2002 08:00 |

Are there additional damage modifiers? For example, a dog (1d2) was able to hit a 9 on another dog (although blessed and paralyzed). -------------------- Please visit my website: http://geocities.com/dchia1010 my forums: http://freechat.tk Posts: 76 | Registered: Wednesday, January 30 2002 08:00 |
BoE limitations and solutions in Blades of Exile

While BoE is a powerful utility, there are still many limits. For example, there are things in the original Exile games that cannot be done with BoE. Some can be overcome, but with an awkward solution. Known limits include: - Players start off with the Soul Crystal, which cannot be changed - Cannot have situations like the Slime Pits (player must cast a spell to destroy it) - Cannot have triggers which happen when an NPC is attacked, only killed - Impossible to make special items into maps (or link them into graphics) - Books cannot be edited - Can't make dungeons where Magic Map cannot be cast - Negative experience points - No moving walls - Can't move boats, etc - Can't make items that grant immunity to lava, etc However, some solutions may be possible. 1. Software update - this can only be done by the developers - at least legally. It is probably illegal to modify the program without permission from Spiderweb Software. 2. Hex editing a scenario file - some problems *may* be able to be overcome by hex editing the scenario files. But then again, they may not. Also, hex editing takes a lot of skill, and can mess up the file. 3. Release the BoE source code: This would no doubt solve the most problems. However, the company may lose money. Sure, it's said that releasing something as open-source will not make the developers lose money, but people will leech the products instead of donating. A possible solution is to release only certain parts of the source code (eg. will only work with the registered version - you cannot just compile the program from the source code alone). Any other potential solutions? I've noticed that in the Scry Monsters menu, there are information about "Skill" (different from combat level) and stuff like "9d10". What do these numbers mean? Is there a way to determine the maximum damage a monster can inflict, etc? -------------------- Please visit my website: http://geocities.com/dchia1010 my forums: http://freechat.tk Posts: 76 | Registered: Wednesday, January 30 2002 08:00 |

I've noticed that an evil acolyte in Bolton always attacks me when I enter his room. However, after I cast Charm on him, he becomes a helpful NPC that identifies items. Was he always hostile? NPC vs. PC advantages and disadvantages in The Exile Trilogy

In the Exile games, both PCs and NPCs have advantages over each other. For example, in Exile 3: NPC advantages: immunities, more than 250 HP and 150 SP, super damage (pack leaders can hit over 80, which cannot be done by PCs without assassination), more default AP, more powerful ranged PC advantages: luck, invincibility, ability to summon more powerful monsters (via Simulacrum), assassination, and of course, the Editor. Just curious, if you could have any advantage that NPCs have, which would it be? Similarly, if you had to sacrifice a PC advantage, which would it be? For me, I'd want the > 250 HP and > 150 SP, and sacrifice Simulacrum. -------------------- Please visit my website: http://geocities.com/dchia1010 my forums: http://freechat.tk Posts: 76 | Registered: Wednesday, January 30 2002 08:00 |

In my opinion, archery and thrown missiles for players in E3 is far underpowered. For example, the Vahnatai warriors can hit up to like 37 hits with steel razordisks. My characters, almost level 50, can hit nowhere near that, even with blessing spells. I don't have the registered version of BoE, but... With an editor like BoE, there are many possibilities. What do you think would be projects to consider working on? For me, I have these ideas: Fantasy worlds - based on novels and movies: Narnia, Middle-earth (Arda), Camelot, Dragonriders of Pern Fan version of other games: Final Fantasy series, Zelda, online games like EverQuest and RuneScape (may have copyright problems) Interesting places in the real-world: large caves, like in Carlsbad Caverns National Park, and other National Parks; famous cities Places with personal connections: your high school or college (yeah, talk to your teachers for free exp!) -------------------- Please visit my website: http://geocities.com/dchia1010 my forums: http://freechat.tk Posts: 76 | Registered: Wednesday, January 30 2002 08:00 |

I know that the Ring of Resistance resists many negative effects. Does anyone know all the things the ring protects against? Also, are the protections as strong as the "specialized" ring? For example, does a Ring of Resistance offer the same anti-ice protection as a Ring of Warmth? I'm considering replacing my other protection rings with a Ring of Resistance. Finally, I know that Pachtar's Plate protects against many other things as well. Would Pachtar's Plate make a Ring of Resistance redundant? I appreciate any input. -------------------- Please visit my website: http://geocities.com/dchia1010 my forums: http://freechat.tk Posts: 76 | Registered: Wednesday, January 30 2002 08:00 |
