It certainly is amazing how a phenomena that by definition is affecting the entire planet has focused on your personal weather situation. It must be nice to be the center of the universe.

Relax. It's a story. For entertainment purposes. And you can't honestly say you expected to be glorified in any way in it, can you? I mean… pretty much everyone gets made fun of or stereotyped in some way. You're no exception, especially since you're not exactly low-key about your persona.

You sure do post a lot for a fellow that had left. Synergy did that too. I wonder if it is a reaction , or over-reaction, to returning to this place.

Meh. Filling out the forms is the easy part. Figuring out how much you should make, and withhold, over the course of the year so that you end up owing the Feds less than $30 is hard. After all, the refund check was just an interest free loan you gave to the government. Hah haaaaa...

New forum software needs a "nudge" feature to knock people out of their gullible state.

vbulletin allows /baleet. It shows the post structure, but not the contents. Contents that are quoted elsewhere are also suppressed. It is heaven, and if a person isn't just being stupid with the function, you don't miss anything worthwhile.

I look forward to using forum software that has a built-in /baleet feature. That will save a lot of grief.

Isn't it sad that how a candidate conducts themself during this lengthy interview process is even more important than actual qualifications? I'm not sure that anyone can perform at our expectation levels for as long as this travesty continues. I predict more gaffes, more desperate low level campaign workers digging up more dirt, and less actual content until this whole thing is straightened out at the convention.
Even then, it will be messy, with the Democratic Party having within reach two of their gold medals. Now if only Hillary was black, or Barack was a woman....

Does anyone? I would like to count myself as an individualist, but the urge to fit in is strong in me as well.

Yeah, but your urge, maybe better put as "be accepted" is not to copy various aspects of your surrounding community of people and wear them as various guises. In high school, at least in Oregon, a person has a real struggle to be accepted as who they are unless they allow part of themselves to be more like that group of which they are trying to be part. Whether that is adopting an attitude, or a speech mannerism, or physical appearance, it is a change affected to gain acceptance. Unfortunately, our society is one of exclusion, rather than inclusion, and this trickles down to the high school level and below, as young people emulate the powerful and successful adults they see on the screen or in print media. At some point, the guise can take over, and leave friends wondering what happened to a friendship. Just look at the kids you hung with in 3rd grade, and see how close or distant you are in 11th.

Possible reasons for the gaffes made by Clinton and Obama in recent days.

And yes, that will have been the fourth time I mention the Bosnia sniper gaffe. :P

Bah, human mores change in a wider cycle that we can usually witness as individuals, but that doesn't mean anything. Victorian era = European prudeness, but that was a reaction to a previous era where sexuality was a lot more open and honest. If anything, the swing of the pendulum is shorter, but it still swings. I would hesitate to say that this type of change is what drives the unhappiness. Historically, this stuff happens when an underclass becomes aware of their situation, and begins to openly resent their betters. This filters into media and overall society, until the massive upwelling occurs things "change."

Interested in spiderweb games, where to start? in General

Strangely enough, I would recommend that you start with Geneforge. With the culmination of the 5 part series due by the end of the year, you are positioned perfectly to play all five games in order without too long of a pause. Then, in October you can pick up the discounted Avernum games.

Check out the various games forums below for in depth assessments of the various games, as well as the requisite hints and strategies. I found Geneforge better in terms of strategy of interpersonal choices, and Avernum better in terms of character build strategy. Mostly that is due to Jeff's maturation, but it is still a valid part of the gaming experience.

Good luck, I got hooked in '97.

Someone else's story:
The Law of the Garbage Truck

Life is ten percent what you make it and
ninety percent how you take it!One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his breaks, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly.

So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!' This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call,

'The Law of the Garbage Truck.'
He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally. Just smile , wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so.....

I hope this helps, Nico. :)

Huh. I just thought I was playing fairly. You seem to be willing to vote for Hillary because your see danger in Barack. I am pointing out the danger in Hillary as a reason I prefer Barack. I didn't want to take a road you seemed unwilling to travel.

What disturbs me about that story is that while backpedaling, she marginalizes the experience had by the Bosnian kid. I'm sure that kid had a very favorable impression of the visit at the time, but if she hears that the First Lady blanked on the whole thing her impression would likely change. And this stuff is coming right from the mouth of the person some want to represent us on the world stage. Gaffe or not, it is unprofessional.
