Archer? What's that? :D :P

I've played through the Exile trilogy and A1-A3 all without using (or even needing) a single missile weapon. I've learned the art of surviving purely on magic and (when I absolutely have to) the occasional hand-to-hand combat.

A really helpful spell to know is Repel Spirit. I have my mage/priest and my paladin that both know it.

I pretty much never use archers. For some reason I'm paranoid about running out of arrows when I need them most. Same reason I never use potions.

I fought Hrickis in A4 as a singleton archer. So... many... reloads...

As… stimulating… as that sounds, I will probably never play such a singleton. For one thing, I still have yet to get past the playable demo portions of A4 (despite owning the full version for over a year now). Second, and more importantly, nothing about getting slaughtered in a game until I am forced to swear uncontrollably and punch walls sounds fun to me at all.

So, I'm guessing you don't enjoy filling out tax forms?

New IRS policy: No more audits! Now they just kill you if anything looks wrong.

Loathsome. And I still fill out 1040EZ. I don't look forward to the day I start having to fill out something more complicated.

Then again, does anyone actually enjoy it?

It's not that bad. After doing a singleton run again with a melee fighter, he actually was pretty easy.

I'm sure some overzealous patriotic people do, but they certainly aren't my type.

Uh… nope. Pretty sure even they hate it. I could be wrong; I often am, but in this case it seems somewhat unlikely.

I enjoy the refund check. :D

I have to use either the 1040 or 1040A, depending on the year. They're not that complicated, unless you have income other than from your job, and interest from savings accounts.

Meh. Filling out the forms is the easy part. Figuring out how much you should make, and withhold, over the course of the year so that you end up owing the Feds less than $30 is hard. After all, the refund check was just an interest free loan you gave to the government. Hah haaaaa...

As a CRPG survival story I can't beat the one I posted a while back in the G4 forum. It seems to be gone from there now, but it's preserved elsewhere for posterity.

For pen and paper, I remember once running an intro game where I provided pregenerated characters. There was one too many, so the ranger was left over as an NPC, which the first player whose PC died could take over. So when one player's magic-user had cast his one spell and been reduced by some mishap from 4 hp to 1, leaving him fragile and unable to accomplish anything anyway, playing a 17 hp ranger looked pretty good to him.

I forbade suicide, but he started banzai charging every possible trap or monster. I forget the details now, but with a series of amazing rolls, the berserker 1 hp magic-user somehow survived the game. The player was not happy.

Listen carefully because some of your options may have changed.
