At this point nothing. I assume you just got the quest and have poked around some. The levers etc work fine and you get to see what is beyond the gates and windows. That is all you can do until later. Just explore Alexandria and adjacent areas and you will get information that will assist you.
After you do make progress in the mines there is one other place I had trouble, and without spoiling anything I would recommend remembering what got you in there in the first place, and using that again.

It looks like you would have to use the scenario editor yourself. If you felt comfortable with that, you need to edit town #8. Find that pot o' gold in the upper right corner and put a terrain script on it. Use the specobj script and put 17 in memory cell 0.

That should work. If not, I'm an idiot and the author has said he'll have an update in a few days.

How can you NOT know what Zork is? I'm willing to bet all my peanut M&M's that Zork was a strong influence in Jeff Vogel's game creation. After all, it was the first RPG created on a computer.

I was trying to lend a humorous hand when I sculpted those bug messages. There is nothing more frustrating than a bug when a fellow knows nothing of scripting, but as I get more adept I hope I can be informative with new scenarios.

Also, at the time I figured it was some cool druiding thing my party was attempting in order to distract the Klorits character. Who knows what the druid can do?

I would refer everyone interested in Geneforge 3 to www.spidweb.com

Let it be known...

Edit - Further reading it seems I am 8 days behind the curve, but it does seem odd that I saw nothing about this on the message boards...

Ephesos' Scenario - Druids of Krell... in Blades of Avernum

Running windows, and I forget which scenario I was in before playing Druid. I had used the editor to extract the party, as it doesn't really matter. So, it was probably some version of Pants of Power, but I have no idea what sword I was using.

Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance than that.

I made that change and instead of the black screen, my party stopped walking at the center of the nest platform. The cutscene continued to run and the complete ending unfolded.
I'm running windows boa with the latest patch available, which isn't very new.
So yes, making that change makes the game winnable.

This is going to sound stupid, but I had a bad experience right from the start. I pulled my singleton out of a scenario in order to play Druid. When he started in the dungeon I went to pick up the note and all hell broke loose. I had no free inventory slots, but before closing the 'get' window I stupidly picked up the "PLUMS" that were in my weapon hand. I couldn't put them down anywhere, least of all in my weapon hand, so I had to C-A-Del and try again. My pants had turned into another type of fruit. No snickering please. I was wondering what happened there, although I can't provide any details other than the item numbers are in the 450-455 range.

As to your question, there was ONE dialog bit where it seemed odd, and after i re-read it I saw you used the wrong pronoun (him instead of you) but I forgot to jot down where it was.

Favorite game? This'll date me well.
Zork 1 and Zork 3 - I forget if I played them on the trash-80 or on my Commodore 128 in CP/M language.
Good times.... good times....

oh yeah, I also liked CK.

You almost had it switched. Try it again and notice the settings window now is overlaid with a message dialog. Click on the Yes button to confirm that you like the new settings, or else it will auto revert (in case you can't see anything).

I hope it works for you.

Finishing the game in windows requires editing one line in the file named t11klortaer.txt.

At line 43 there is a line that reads
walk_dist = group_dist_to_loc( 1000 ,16,17) - 1; change this line to read
walk_dist = group_dist_to_loc( 0,16,17) - 1; save the file and you are good to go.

To fix the special items (you don't need this to win) edit the file named druidspt1.txt.
look for a line that reads
//Initialize Items right before it there is the phrase 'break;'
as Kel pointed out before, move this phrase to after the complete line that begins 'init_special_item(1, "Heartwood Key"'

I hope that solves things, you will find the above listed files in ..\blades of avernum\blades of avernum scenarios\druids win

Edit - removed nonfunctional bold in code

Actually, just ignore my stupid comments. This is obviously done by someone with little command over the english language, but it is way beyond what I could do in Finnish. And I'm managing to get through it, even though I've been dumb enough to post here while playing it out. *whaps self with mallet*

but yeah, beta test. it is a good thing.

Edit - having said that, i'm now trapped, probably my own stupidity again

I "accidentally" killed the slug before the request, and it showed an error. Plus the slug was still there. Then I killed it again, for real this time, after getting the 'quest' and the earrings were there. Using windows.

I guess my overall feeling so far is one of confusion. The text seems . . . odd. I've gotten as far as killing the ogres, but then got frustrated and decided to post this.

:(
Edit - well i managed to trigger the right effect and continued out of the cave.

I looked at the script, and got confused. But I did manage to fix it anyways. It seems the group_dist_to_loc call wanted arguments (0,16,17)
So.. state 10 should begin...
//walk up
force_instant_terrain_redraw();
pause(15);
message_dialog("Once you can breathe again, you take a look
around. The floor is warm volcanic rock, lava and smoke surround
everything, and it smells unbearably like lizard." ,"In an
attempt to find Klortis again, you silently
walk toward the center of this strange structure...");
walk_dist = group_dist_to_loc(0,16,17) - 1;
while(walk_dist != 0) {
march_party(16, (17 + walk_dist));
force_view_center(16, (17 + walk_dist));
force_instant_terrain_redraw();
walk_dist = walk_dist - 1;
pause(5);
}
march_party(16, 17);
force_view_center(16, 17);
force_instant_terrain_redraw();

//enter the dragon
And I liked it. Well done. I'd be happy to beta any future scenarios.
:D
Edit - message_dialog always comes out weird...

My windows are dirty too. Excellent scenario to the aerie, and even the error is good. My singleton just kept walking north. Walking and walking. Finally he go trapped in the solid stone wall (or so I imagine) and BoA was so upset it cried.

I hope that you get it fixed and sent to Mariann soon.
:)
ps. i vote to keep the clirtos, or whatever its called :P

Kel - Have you ever read anything by John Barrow out of Cambridge? He was up in Portland a few years ago and I sat in on this discussion on the anthropic principle. While a real egoist, he did have valuable insights which rather than explain things, made me start thinking in different ways, or along different lines.
The stuff he was mostly talking about was constants, but seeing as they are universal in nature, I feel comfortable ignoring them. :P
Anyway hearing you mention philosophy and science reminded me of this.

Actually that's kinda funny. I usually try to read my posts to double check grammar and punctuation. Not for complete accuracy though. But I'm pretty sure I would have noticed a non-link like that one. Kudos for Eagle! :P

Really, that did make me laugh.

I'm a guy that gets called when there is a question about gov't assistance in upgrading various aspects of all sorts of things, including some of the stuff that may or may not happen in a dairy farm. My favorite to date is the feces transport system. It used a gravity assisted corkscrew device to move the dung, squeeze out the liquid (which went into a tank for spray back onto the fields), and then the remaining material was blown into a 3 walled building with roof.
After we finished this project (farmer only paid half the materials cost), he smiled at us and said he could now start up a business selling the dried manure. Not caring, we agreed, and he has been successful in the new venture.

Also the cows are a lot healthier not standing in their own filth while in the barn.

The specificity in the first sentence is real. I really am "that guy you call." It says so on my business card. :D

Umm. The store had/has some inane policy about returning opened software. Like you can't. It seems that it is possible that an amoral person could buy something, install it, copy the cd, photocopy the manual, and then return it for a full refund.
So I was out of luck. I suppose I could have done something, but I would have had to drive 30 minutes and I was really lazy back then. Even lazier than now. The saddening continues. :)

I hate to say this, but the Douglas Adams game 'Starship Titanic' is the worst game ever for me. And I've never even played it. I was so excited when I got it, but it never once worked. I had all the requirements, like a bug-free version of Win95, and 32Mb of RAM, and all the rest of the goodies, but no working game. So sad.

Even sadder, I still have the game, and I just looked in the manual to check the requirements. I need to shed some of this excess baggage.
Sigh.

I was picking up Mom at the airport a few weeks ago and really looked at the structure of the building from the pov of an enemy. They are ungainly structures with lots of messy concrete and steel blocking explosion paths. Not a very good target. It would take massive amounts of explosive to do real damage to an airport.

Another place that is 'protected' are sports arenas. I supposed enclosed stadiums would be a valid target as the right explosive power would shock people to death, but it would still require a lot of 'stuff'.

The place I would worry about, after careful reflection on our habits as americans, is the supermarket. Rarely do I see anyone paying attention in those places. It would be easy to walk into walmart in a c-4 bodysuit and to let loose. All of the loose material in a store like this would serve as shrapnel, creating a big mess.

But nevermind, I have an odd brainflow, and I'm sure those folks in DC would have thought of this as being a vulnerability if it in fact was one.

:)

I'm the neat position right now where I get to write my own ticket. All I have to do is identify a project, write a grant application, and then do the project. Not only do I not have to apply for a job, I get to set my wage and if I am feeling ornery I can hire someone else to do the job if I feel I am unfit for the task.

And no, I don't really want to work either, despite currently working.
