I agree. I also think that Thuryl should have roundly lambasted me for obviously copying his post and just substituting words here and there to make it look like I had something new to say. And it also seems that once again we have discovered that someone neglected to deposit their sanity in the turtle pit prior to entering the forums. Tsk tsk. Edit - Congrats to Kel for spamming up to 4000 posts. :P *this message sponsored by the copyright infringing ferret olympics* [ Friday, August 26, 2005 14:47: Message edited by: Jumpin' Salmon ] Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

I like how you juxtaposed the statements. Now if you saw that common ground had been reached, instead of feeling your opinion had been breached, it would make me happier. *this message sponsored by this and that* Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

Go ahead and slay me for replying to an older topic. Done? Ok. The isolated hut in A2 (near the Motrax hospital cave) is a safe house for Ethridge and Tori. Sun symbol with a circular rainbow around it adorns the doorway. One bed, if you were curious or slow. *this message sponsored by melissa and amos?* -------------------- WWtNSD? I am playing A2 currently, and did notice that spider food. It is located outside the barrier area, so indeed you must have passed through the vahnatai lands (and seen the wierdos) prior to finding the "mystery corpse." I hope that answers your question regarding attention to detail. *this message sponsored by the GIFTS* Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

You must have updated with one of MS's fun service packs. Those seem to screw things up consistently. If you haven't tried reinstalling, then do so. If that doesn't work, click Start|Help|and then type '16'. You should get a list of help topics that explain why 16-bit isn't working. I run Windows 2000, and that list included video, sound, conflicts, and other goodies. If it is available, click Start|Run and type 'command.com'. If that works, then change directories manually to the E3 executable and try running it that way. The only other thing I can think of is that the shortcut (Start options are shortcuts too) has some option set incorrectly. Try right-clicking on the shortcut and select properties. If something looks like it is wrong, change it. After all, things can't get worse than they are now. FYI, E3 works on this computer, which has service pack 4 installed. *this message sponsored by the pro bono research division of my desktop services* -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

There is a huge gap between "bad" and inappropriate for places where 12 year olds visit. As a society we try to protect young folks from the more insane or macabre until they have reached a less impressionable age. Whatever TGM posted, it was not in a vacuum, and not knowing the balance of the story it is hard to contemplate the message. That said, TM left for the convenience store to pick up some ice cream and 7-up. That is all that is known. *this message sponsored by fatal infatuation* Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

How depressing. A guy posts that he is #1 and folks just start being negative. Why not heap accolades on him? After all, his positive attitude is obviously superior and he has the guts to display it here. Words like spam getting thrown about and worries about expecting better from someone with more time on the board are fallacious at best. I am disappointed. ps. congrats to Morgan for attaining and realizing his status *this message sponsored by the number 1 and letter a* Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

quote:Yeah. I'm all for getting companies out of the power loop. There are several cities in the NW that provide all their own power through geothermal heat taps that drive steam turbines. All the power needed by the town is generated on site. I'm a member of an electric co-op, and if I ever have excess energy I can pipe it back into the system. Essentially I'll spin the electric meter in the other direction. The city of Portland is trying to buy up the local power company (owned by Enron) and convert it to a public utility. There may be some tradeoffs in rates, but I think that we (society) are more likely to explore new power options if the corporations are not governing the system. Given current US law, the major oil companies could pump til the reserves are dry, declare bankrupcy and fastener the stockholders. Then no more oil for cars, power generation, boats  , plastics, or all the other junk. Gotta love capitalism. *this message sponsored by the pud* Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

Why is there this fascination with having one solution? It seems that placing energy converters in all the appropriate places could go a long way to solving some long-term energy concerns. It may be that up front costs are higher, but our current solutions have astronomically high long-term costs. I would be in favor of tax credits to companies developing geo/wind/solar/tidal solutions that have long-term viability and are simple. None of this junk that requires a PhD to just read the instruction manual. I want a mechanic to be able to look at it, understand it, and fix it without having to call in the SWAT repair team. I'm going to be putting solar panels on my barn in order to reduce my dependence on outside power for things like running my well pump, and I want to be able to "engineer it" myself if it ever acts up. I have many different sized hammers, and I think they all have the potential to be useful here. If I had the right terrain I might try wind power, but the trees block much of the wind and I don't want a tower that is 120' high. Yes, the trees are over 100' tall. I may be ignorant of many things, but since no one has stepped forward with numbers showing that many small powerplants are not viable as an alternative to massive powerplants, I will continue to disagree with that notion. Also, it is much less of a big deal if a 30kilowatt plant goes offline compared to a 3000megawatt plant. *this message sponsored by the rant* Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

quote:I like it. It looks like I'm casting for seagulls, which is doable if you use live bait and a sharp hook. I guess they would be good bait for shark, or maybe halibut. The problem with gulls is that they are still alive when you reel'em in. And they peck. And it is considered illegal. Mostly though, I'm bothered by the pecking. *this message sponsored by the unwanted visitors bureau* Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

And the power trip begins.... :P The thing that bugged me about the "muscle car" thread was the picture was of some hopped up little japanese thing that is nothing more than a speeding ticket. A true muscle car is something like a 60's cougar, with which you can tow a boat if you had the proper tow package. Ooops, posted about a locked thread. I know you aren't losing sleep over it, but I doubt that one locked thread made someone quit the boards. It sounds like it just wasn't his type of thing, and that's fine. There are other places to post about spiderweb games, and there are other "general" forums as well. As Alo might say, I haven't much to add here, but sometimes you can disguise length as wisdom and get away with murder. *this message celebrates posts counted as quantity over quality* Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

Nice drawing. I guess the only preference I would have is that the fishing rod have a dramatic bend in it, signifying that once again I have snagged the bottom of the ocean. I am pleased to have not appeared on the infamous ten list. I can understand Drakey and Alorael on it, because they spam like crazy :P , but for the rest of us it seems to be expended effort to remain off the list. I think I hit the lull side in my posting, as work and fishing seem to occupy much of my days, and it is difficult to keep up with some of the threads as they wander around. And of course, congrats to Ben for the double this month. #1 spammer and you reached 2k. You are using the older version. You have two choices. 1. Download the newest version from spidweb, or 2. search this site for druids of krell and look for the fix. it does involve changing some files, and the new version does improve other things that aren't specifically addressed in the forums. *this message sponsored by the color black* -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

Groupthink is the status quo. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Many presidents and other heads of state (or corporations) surround themselves with like-minded people. The Bay of Pigs fiasco is an example of groupthink as well, and it was only after this was revealed that things changed (in the decision making process) and the next decision turned out to be a little more creative (ie. no nuclear exchange.) I agree it is frustrating that people can't be made to realize that our opinions are correct, but that is a frustration shared by everyone. It may have been a little harsh to laugh, but so be it. If the admin turns out to be right we all breathe a sigh of relief that things turned out better. If they turn out to be wrong, then the naysayers better get their collective arse in gear and do something to fix the problems. In the meantime, it sure is nice that we have something to agree upon, which is that the entrance requirement for these forums is so liberating. *this message sponsored by the head turtle* Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |
