My experience with environmental regulation has been a bad one, unfortunately, which basically involved the Queensland government making "environmental protection" laws that had the opposite effect to what was intended. Naturally, neither the media nor the government were able to grasp this concept. So, yeah, I don't think it's a simple issue, and I'm a bit sceptical of the media's general treatment of it as such, and even more sceptical of "SAVE THE PLANET!" exclamations coming from people who pretty much get their information about the issue only from the media. In short, the emotiveness of the whole "THE PLANET IS GOING TO DIE!!" thing has polarized the debate to the point that it's difficult to reasonably assess what the situation is, so I don't have much of an opinion either way. -------------------- SupaNik: Aran, you're not big enough to threaten Ash. Marlenny, you definitely have a stereotype. I'm not sure which stereotype I should run with. Am I the raving fundamentalist? The rabid BoE oldbie? The nit-picking pedant? If you're talking about something as vast and general as "the environment", it's a bit hard to have a meaningful discussion. In some places, there will be problems, in other places, there won't be. If you're specifically referring to global warming, say so. [ Monday, April 24, 2006 14:32: Message edited by: Ash Lael ] -------------------- SupaNik: Aran, you're not big enough to threaten Ash. PMs enabled, though the short answer is pretty much what Alorael said. In scripture, at least according to my incomplete knowledge of it, Hell is not portrayed as a hot place that people get thrown into to burn in for eternity (except in one of Jesus' parables, and I think it's fair to say that it's allowable to interpret those as not being completely literal) as much as simply being "outside" paradise. -------------------- SupaNik: Aran, you're not big enough to threaten Ash. Nero had a nasty one, where he'd have Christians impaled, covered in tar, set on fire, and used as lamps for his gardens. The Assyrians skinned people alive, I'm told, which would really suck. -------------------- SupaNik: Aran, you're not big enough to threaten Ash. Dammit, even JV had to think twice. quote:I've been staying out of this thread, by and large, but I simply had to respond to this one. This is exactly the opposite of what God says, in my understanding at least. The most fundamental concept of Christianity is forgiveness - that's why we put so much emphasis on that guy on the cross. The whole point of him doing that was to pay all debts and take all punishment on himself. Imagine Uriah the Hittite getting to Heaven - he might justifiably be upset that King David, who stole his wife and arranged for him to be killed, was up there with him. People say "Jesus died for our sins" a lot, but not too many people actually understand what that means. To my mind, it was to reconcile us to each other. He loved David, so he took the punishment David deserved on himself. Whatever punishment Uriah could have demanded for David, I doubt it could be as bad as what Jesus went through. Or, as Bono would put it, Daddy's Gonna Pay For Your Crashed Car. EDIT: Geez, this topic moves fast. God doesn't control everything. At least, according to mainstream Christian thinking. Short answer, he does. Not the Garden of Eden itself, but Heaven's supposed to be just as good, or so I'm told. (simple answer to a simple question, please don't ask "what are you basing that on?" or anything like that. Just pointing out that there's no inconsistency in Christian thinking here.) -------------------- SupaNik: Aran, you're not big enough to threaten Ash. Dammit, even JV had to think twice. I'll hold off on the whole console thing until there's a standard that's not going to be replaced anytime soon and that has a solid back catalogue. And is decently priced. -------------------- SupaNik: Aran, you're not big enough to threaten Ash. Dammit, even JV had to think twice. Posts: 1861 | Registered: Friday, February 11 2005 08:00 |

Testing, whether alpha or beta, is way fun for me. Planning is way fun. Actually making the thing kinda sucks. In my experience, scenario death happens in the first 25% of design work. So far, if I get past that point, I have always finished the scenario. -------------------- SupaNik: Aran, you're not big enough to threaten Ash. Dammit, even JV had to think twice.
