I'm trying to design an evil Temple of Pain. I'm trying to convey how evil and painful these people are by using a nice evil and painful envoking color scheme. I'm having trouble. Edit: Also, these are just samples. I haven't designed the temple. I'm trying out ideas. End Edit So far I have the following schemes: Anyone have any ideas (colors? schemes?) to improve it? Out of the screenshots you've posted, I like number 1 the most. It is sufficiently dark, but still feels realistic. Tiles in #2 are a bit too bright. Red floors look unrealistic, especially the one used in #5,6, and 8. And #7 has too sharp of a contrast between white and red tiles. #3 might work, but #1 feels more real. However, I am not a graphics expert, so this is just a random player's opinion. (Except I don't have BoA, so I am not even a player. :) ) [ Friday, April 14, 2006 15:34: Message edited by: Zeviz ] -------------------- Be careful with a word, as you would with a sword, For it too has the power to kill. I really like the red (blood?) waterfalls, but the red floors, red cliffs, and red walls all together are a bit much. I also like #1 about the best; perhaps you could add the waterfalls to that? -------------------- Überraschung des Dosenöffners! "On guard, you musty sofa!" I believe that this contains a custom graphic that I don't recognize. Is it of your own creation, and if so, is it hosted somewhere? I like all of them, by the way. Personally, I liked number 7. Paired with the waterfalls of blood, I think it would look awesome. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I really, really, really, really hate undead. With a passion. Posts: 4130 | Registered: Friday, March 26 2004 08:00 |

Dikiyoba likes numbers 1, 3, 4, and 7 best. But all of them seem painful and evil. Posts: 4346 | Registered: Friday, December 23 2005 08:00 |

I myself think that number 5 is the best. Turn those red spots next to the altar into a red pool with a waterfall. Red walls however is too much. Don't put those in. -------------------- Constitutional monarchies are the in monarchies. Posts: 1186 | Registered: Friday, June 18 2004 07:00 |

Would green walls be too much? I was thinking and trying (failing) to get a subtle green wall that makes me think of slime, ooze, pus, et cetera. Edit: Since most people find the red walls wrong, what about white marble (cliffs and walls) with a blood spatter for walls? I'll try making a graphic tonight. Green walls and red floors, it'l be like Christmas in painville!!! But seriously, most of those pictures look interesting. Try to incorporate those red waterfalls (sweeettt) but don't go to overboard with the red. If the entire temple is pure red it loses some effect. -------------------- Guaranteed to blow your mind. 1, 3, 4,5 don't show up for me. 6 might work depending how it is used, 7 looks good (good wall choice), and I like the waterfall in 8 but the walls are too pinky, Rather than adapting white walls to red I think black or grays would look really nice. Sorry, but I don't know why some don't show. From what I read so far the following is the preferred scheme. -------------------- My ego is bigger than yours. Posts: 480 | Registered: Thursday, October 11 2001 07:00 |

Wow. This is very good. I hope my dungeons will look half as good. Have you played 'Lord Putidus'? At some points Kel made the graphics too dark for playability, but overall it's very good for adding atmosphere. I say stick with the latest scheme. The light red/dark red didn't look as good, and the rough grey walls look excellent. -------------------- (Tries to find a relevant Evil Overlord quote, then gives up.) The stairway seems a little incongruous in that one. If you haven't already, you should check out Luz's Walls Posts: 293 | Registered: Saturday, May 29 2004 07:00 |

I agree the white staircase is a bit out of place, but other than that I really like it. Posts: 2032 | Registered: Wednesday, January 26 2005 08:00 |

Er, for those last 3, I just modified this: I'm not actually going to stick with it since I'm already using it elsewhere. I'm trying to conserve space by using new wall sets and floors. I'm trying out schemes and color combos mostly. Currently the main design uses: Rough Stone Wall Rough Stonne Cliff Blood pool & Blood waterfall Reddish-Brown Floor [ Friday, April 14, 2006 20:38: Message edited by: Dahak ] -------------------- My ego is bigger than yours. #1: A little plain, though the blood pools are nice. #2: Too "goody-two-shoes" for a temple of pain. #3: Too bright. #4: The tiles are too bright, but I do like the waterfall/statues motif. #5: Too bright. #6: I love those lanterns. It'd be nice for a courtyard or walkways. #7: The while floor is too bright, otherwise good. #8: The walls are too bright. Also, you might want to make "corner waterfalls." -------------------- * Posts: 6936 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

Creepy. I'm a big fan of medium-contrast enviroments, myself. If you want a good color to help contrast and even bring out the red, a cyan-type blue could come in handy. -------------------- Inspired by Dahak's work, the Silent Assassin created an evil Easter Egg of pain: He dyed it red and threw it at my face. -------------------- -Lenar Labs What's Your Destiny? I'd advise making the stairs a deep blue-green color. ~EDIT~ I did a bit of experimenting, and hex color 00415a (RGB 0,65,90) looks very nice with dark red.
