Average dumbass

You're an average dumbass. The good part here is that you're average (it could be worse), but the bad part is that it's at being a dumbass.
It's not much to brag about actually. Well maybe in your case it is.

Hm... that's unpleasant. Not good when the question just fades out halfway through, though... I think whoever made that must've been somewhere around moronic.

Yeah, I've got something for 20-30 in the works, with no undead at all. Maybe a shade here and there, but no zombies, ever.

I always had kind of toyed with the idea of having my scenario start off on a ship, but then I moved it from an island to a secluded valley. Hence, little opportunity for ships.

It's a very doable idea.

After all, why say "You're unpleasant" when what you really mean is "You *ss!!!"?

By the way, why are people so insulted by people cursing? I can understand for things like racial slurs, but for the more mundane words, what's the big deal? It's just a word, after all...

Hm... the social learning and cognitive theories. Yeah, that sums it up, really. (I love psychology)

We can't escape the influence of our environment, but we've got to remember that we can't escape ourselves, either. It's a bit of everything, and since everyone experiences/thinks about life differently, it's impossible to generalize about humanity's inherent anything.

Side note: Eagle, you don't really need to sign your posts.

Yeah, he pretty much summed it up. This kind of discussion has seen its day, over and over and over again. Besides, you didn't include the other, better races (granted, they're unplayable).

People are never inherently anything... we are shaped by our experiences into strange combinations of good and evil, though some people are definitely off-balance.

Following the evolutionary thread of the conversation, we definitely do things to better our chances of survival. Granted, these things may not even be necessary given th society we live in, but we do them anyway. Sometimes these behaviors are self-centered and amoral, but they can also be altruistic and giving... it all depends on the situation.

There's also a social element to this, in that we will see other people act good/evil, and occasionally be rewarded for imitating them (reinforcing the behavior). Usually, this happens without us consciously noticing. Sadly, this goes on to the whole "be a good role model" lecture, which hinders more than helps.

Fortunately, regardless of whether or not anyone thinks we are inherently moral/amoral, we have the ability to think about our own behaviors and to change them. Thus, we should spend less time on the morality we start out with, and more time on how to improve what we've got.

Fascism, to answer Evil_tim's question, is the totalitarian, nationalistic, censorship/propaganda-loving, opposite of socialism. It has the government completely control the economy, along with über-strict social control. Just think Nazi Germany, because that's a fairly good example.

Suicide or Not? in Blades of Avernum

Ah... I recognize my comments. But what I meant was this: give them the option to charge in via a special encounter, and if you don't feel like making a whole town, make it a huge outdoor battle (or just autokill the party).

i.e.: "This Vahnatai town appears to be brimming with guards, though it only appears to be a small port town. Attacking the town could be risky to your mission... do you really want to? (Yes/No)"
Yes -> huge outdoor battle / autokill

I hope that made sense.

I believe it boils down to which is better... Bahssikava or Canopy. They're duking it out on the ratings, thus the argument and the anger.

What bothers me about this is that both scenarios are actually very good. Both have their good points, along with very annoying bits. Everyone will prefer something different, however, so there's no reason to get so mad about it.

Example: While laser puzzles (particularly the kind that can get irrevocably screwed up) are freakishly annoying, it's amazing how Bahss continued a genuine Avernum storyline while making it believable.

Another example: Boss battles every five minutes are incredibly annoying, but the amount of custom scripting (and good scripting at that) found in Canopy is astounding (particularly the spells & cutscenes).

In the end, both of these scenarios are still amazing compared to what most of us could assemble, so stop feuding about whose is better!

Can't we all just get along? (Don't answer that. Don't even think about it.)

What exactly happened with that? The whole thing was a little bizarre... it let me log in, but trying to view the boards didn't work.

EDIT: Never mind, found an explanation in Tech Support... pardon my stupidity. I offer my deepest condolences, MM.

Ice Drake, no need to post such a short response... you don't have to post whatever comes into your head. Still, it's encouraging to see that you're learning.

You've got to wonder how the Triad managed to get so much of the caves lit... and if they had that much power, why not try to light the farms better (and grow something other than mushrooms)?

Also, why doesn't Avernum's messed up day/night cycle (or lack thereof) interfere with the Avernites more?

'Tis downright depressing to see how many people lack the language abilities to hold a conversation outside of instant messaging language (which is, after all, a completely different tongue).

Example of actual English: "Speak the speech, I pray you, as I pronounced it to you, trippingly on the tongue;"

Hm... I wonder what that'd look like in chatspeak?
