Ouch... should've known TM would slam me. (voice fills with seething anger) Welcome back TM...

But anyway, back to the topic at hand...

We don't want to be richer than Bill Gates; we just want to be richer than that guy down the block who just bought a new sports car.
Still, with what Thuryl has said, it sounds a bit more like we're talking about natural selection that isn't quite working... maybe "unnatural selection", because as he truthfully said, it's a very small part of humanity that struggles daily for life. Thus, the impulses we have now, which probably served a greater purpose back when survival was more of an issue (whatever the reason), are simply directed towards ends which have no true importance. And that is how cosmetic surgery was born.

And Jeros, I agree that many people are completely happy with their place in the social hierarchy, but then how do we explain people who do try working tirelessly to get rich? Do we dismiss them as social anomalies?

I honestly don't know how to answer the above question, as I'm pretty happy where I am in life.

Well, I knew you could get the odd weapons, but I didn't know anybody would attack them. Out of curiosity, what happens if you attack them (and assumedly kill them)?

About the red herring... weird. So old school environmentalists used fish?

Good idea. Look HERE.

What's come up here should prove interesting in the other argument. It's obvious that we don't all agree here...

This came up in The If You Had a Billion Dollars Thread, and I agree with Jeros that it seems interesting, and deserves a good discussion.

To start, I think the sins can be suppressed, though it takes a fairly constant watch by the individual. Nobody else can help a person control themselves (unless you use brain electrodes or something).

Also, it's more likely that people will suppress such unpleasant habits as pride and greed if they feel safe (think Maslow's hierarchy of needs, if it helps). If a person feels insecure, they're just more likely to lash out by falling back on age-old instincts (greed as a survival measure, for example). Thus, we actually can (indirectly) help control each other by simply being civil to each other, trying to make everyone feel secure and able to survive.

Thoughts?

Well, thanks for the clarification, anyway. I just didn't remember from the last time I played A2, because I overused the hintbook that time.

Note: I atone for this sin, and am playing it completely sans hintbook this time.

Red herrings can be fun, and they would've made A3 more fun. Imagine attacking the wrong group for the plagues (i.e.: if you actually got all of dragonkind up against you, or possibly accused the Anama of causing an apocalypse), and the plot twists that would result.

Even though the coding would be painful for such in-depth red herrings, it would still be cool.

Lastly, why's it called a red herring? Who looks for off-colored fish in a mystery?

I'd have to echo the ideas of many here. I would also donate most of it, after giving myself enough to survive without working. Might still work anyway, just to keep boredom away.

However, I'd make sure to set some aside for a couple of camping trips around the world. Backpacking in Peru could be fun (I'd personally love to see Macchu Picchu).

And like Maoben said, I don't think any one person needs a billion dollars. Even if they had it, they wouldn't be able to use/enjoy it all without entering evil billionaire mode. Greed would kick in before too long.

Okay, there's a corpse in the outdoors in A2, northeast of the Moldy Cavern (the one with the graymold). You can only see it via Far Sight, and I don't think there's a way to reach it even with the Orb. Anybody know what's there (if anything)?

Anybody even know what I'm talking about? I'd clarify, but the A2 map site is still down.

EDIT: As the question was answered and the topic changed, so has the title.

Favorites would probably be...

-Dogma

-Ferris Bueller's Day Off

-Monty Python and the Holy Grail

-Young Frankenstein

Anything that can mix humor with a good message (i.e: Dogma), is downright awesome, but normal/absurd/random comedy (i.e.: Monty Python) is also good.

EDIT:

-Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (truly awesome movie)

Use Haste on whoever can cast Repel Spirit in your party. Then, roast 'em all (Fireblast also works well).

Not quite sure exactly where you're talking about, but the above strategy should work for just about every single fight in Diplomacy with the Dead.

Hm... this is interesting. My scenario, along with Nine Variations and Undead Valley have completely disappeared from the Spidweb scenario tables, or so it appears.

Anybody have the slightest clue why?

Urk... "nice person" doesn't cut it when you have the policy-making skills of a twice-fried turnip.

Well, it shouldn't cut it, but today the media makes personality seem like an essential political skill, which it isn't. A good awareness of what's going on should always take priority, not to mention the ability to actually act on that information.

Note: I didn't mean to Bush-bash, as I really disliked both him and Kerry. I just disliked Bush more.

I've noticed something on CSR... my scenario (Druids of Krell) only has 3 reviews. If it's not too much to ask, could more people rate it? And even if it gets shot down at the Lyceum, I'd love to see it get moved off of the Untried & Untested section of Spidweb.

Hm... a bit too scathing, perhaps? I seem to remember that we went over this whole thing with Ice Drake a while back, and people yelling at him didn't do much.

Still, please use proper (or semi-coherent) English, and we'll all get along just fine.

And about your problem, you can always cheat and give yourself Far Sight level 3. That tends to help break mazes, and I know there's a bridge over some lava in the middle of the maze. Once you cross that, you can get out fairly easily.

And it's Za-Khazi Run... not "Hak-Kahz ruin thingie"... it does save us a headache if you use the right name.

EDIT: SkeleTony, how long did you take writing that tech support conversation?

Best to just go on ignoring/mocking them. By resorting to such bizarre and lengthy schemes (no offense to those who have posted/begun using such plans), we only give them the satisfaction of knowing that they're annoying us.

I apologize if that made no sense.

Well, you could always do Grease. That's fairly easy, though the dialogue could offend your advisors (they sound easily offended).

Actually, we just did Once Upon a Mattress, and we managed with only 6 male actors. I think only three of them actually had to sing. It's not the best play, but anything can be great with a good cast (thankfully... otherwise all of our plays would've been total garbage).

Yeah, I've got to agree that TM has always sounded a little angry... and though Mad Ambition is infinitely better than RoR, it's still got that angry, preachy feeling to it. I sense a lot of unresolved anger issues...

Hopefully, he'll cool off a bit eventually...

Really good leaders will also rely on stuff other than their own opinions (i.e: when JFK listened to his advisors about the Missile Crisis, instead of going over the brink). Sadly, that takes a certain openness to ideas, which far too many U.S. politicians today lack (curse you, partisan politics!).

However, as has been said, all you need to succeed in politics is a relative in the system, a ton of money, or just suck up to someone in power. It shouldn't work like that, but it does (ahem... Jeb).
