IC: The battle was getting intense. Andros was still exchanging blows with the leader of the group, Cyrus was still locked in combat with his opponent, Norran was trying to aim spells at the bladesmen (with little success), and Brother Sequoia was dodging attacks from a third bladesman. The druid's staff whirled like a dust devil, parrying every blow. I can't keep this up forever... there must be another way. Cyrus was also starting to wear down, and his opponent seemed just as fresh as ever. Andros and his enemy were still at full strength, though Sequoia had no idea how. Sequoia felt his cloak rip from a blade's slash, and a bit of fresh blood dripped down his arm, staining his dark green robes. Well, if that's how he insists on doing this... Brother Sequoia began to mutter as he whirled his staff around his skilled opponent, and the staff began to glow with a blinding white light. The blademaster staggered from the sudden flash of light, and Sequoia quickly took the advantage. With the strength already fading from his injured arm, he landed a flurry of blows on the blademaster's helmet, knocking it off his head. Then, a sickening thud followed the poor soul's dented skull to the ground. As the druid's opponent fell, Cyrus had just managed to trip his opponent (thanks in part to a timely fireball from Norran), and had his blade to the man's throat. Clearly beaten, the bladesman fell silent and awaited his death. It didn't come. "We have much to discuss." Cyrus said bluntly to him. Norran had already aimed a few spells at Andros and his enemy, but all had missed their chaotic melee, which showed no signs of slowing. "Leave him to me!" Andros shouted over the sound of clanging metal. "This is my battle!" Hearing this, the rest of the group fell silent and watched. Brother Sequoia turned his attention to his wounds. OoC: There we go, Sequoia's out of the picture for a bit. Waiting on you, Wise Man. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. Still in development, a scenario for either 20-30 or 30-40, unsure of how many towns, but it looks like 6-9 outdoor sections right now. In any case, bigger & better than DoK. Estimated time of completion: no idea whatsoever. I'm taking my time on this one. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. OoC: I'm kind of disappointed... nobody attacked me. Oh well. IC: Brother Sequoia lunged at one of the blademasters, who instantly flourished his swords and advanced. A muttered spell from the druid turned the blades to rust, and a blow from the druid's staff knocked the unfortunate guild member to the ground. I hope they're all this easy... he thought, turning to help Cyrus fend off his attacker. Cyrus was clearly getting a decent challenge from the blade-wielding madman. Leveling his staff at the armored bladesman, Brother Sequoia was disappointed to see his spell rebound off the man's blade. A muffled grunt from behind him confirmed that the spell had hit another invader, probably square in the breastplate. The druid groaned mentally. Just once I'd like to have an easy day. Turning again, the druid ran after another bladesman, who was advancing on an approaching mage (who appeared to be a Verwey native). A quick spell turned her helmet a rusty red (though it should have been able to dissolve it outright), and Brother Sequoia tossed his staff at it like a javelin. A resounding crack signaled the bladesman's defeat. Sequoia ran over to the prone body, retrieving his staff. He was met by the Verweyan mage, who muttered a quick 'thank you' and introduced himself as Norran. Before Brother Sequoia could respond, Norran charged toward the blademasters fighting Andros and Cyrus. "Watch out, their weapons are shielded!" Sequoia shouted after Norran. Before he could see if Norran had heard his warning, Sequoia realized that another bladesman had snuck up on him. His swords were glowing. Not again... OoC: Hopefully, this won't cause any problems. OoC EDIT: Okay, I lowered the number. Sorry 'bout that, I just hadn't noticed it. Hm... I'm sensing a lot of random energy and unresolved anger in that post... I also sense it was written under the heavy influence of caffeine. On topic, I suppose it makes perfect sense to the Vahnatai themselves, so who are we to judge? And if there's anyone who would know about them, I think it's Drakefyre. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I really, really, really, really hate undead. OoC: I apologize... I left for a weeklong backpacking trip in a hurry, and couldn't post the dilemma before I left. In any case, I think I'll stay and fight off blademasters. quote:OoC: This seem out of character to anyone else? And the RP is slowly sliding down the boards, so I though it was time to post. IC: "Well..." Brother Sequoia stared out the door which Caecus had just left through, and he seated himself in an uncomfortable wooden chair. "What now?" "I suppose we wait." Cyrus said. A few quiet moments passed, which could've been easily labeled an awkward silence. "Forget that. I need to walk around a bit," Andros said, departing the building. Cyrus and Brother Sequoia exchanged a brief glance (though the druid wasn't sure exactly where his dead companion was looking), and they silently rose to follow Andros. ----- Verwey was much quieter than when they'd arrived, and few people remained on the streets. Those who did appeared to be in a big hurry. Cyrus and Brother Sequoia had since caught up with Andros. "Very odd, isn't it?" Andros thought aloud. "I wonder if Caecus has spread word already." "Probably. I just wish I knew what was going on for once." the druid replied, calmly eyeing the buildings around them. He didn't really feel threatened or nervous, he just wanted to figure this whole thing out. Why am I even here? he thought, making sure to keep up with Andros and Cyrus. This is about as far from Krell as I can get, and for what? Some cursed mountain and a bizarre war... Brother Sequoia nearly tripped over Andros, as he and Cyrus had abruptly stopped walking. The scene in front of them was impressive, to say the least. In what must've been the town square, Caecus was surrounded by at least a hundred of his fellow villagers, including mages, priests and warriors. Clearly he was in the middle of an impressive speech, as the crowd suddenly gave a cavern-shaking cheer. That's what it is... Brother Sequoia's train of though caught up with his body again. There's just something unnatural about this place. I cannot rest until I know what it is, but it seems that I shall just have to relax and see where this all takes me. Or rather, takes us. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I really, really, really, really hate undead. With a passion. Uh... quick side notes, sosmic: 1. It really helps to tell us which scenario you're referring to, just so we don't have to try and remember which one had Ivalice in it. 2. Tell us how you're stuck, because we don't know if you're talking about a bug, or just a simple case of "where do I go". 3. Try not to post multiple copies of the same thread. EDIT OoC: Alright! 100th and 150th posts in the same thread! (It's late where I am... humor me) IC: Rubbing his frostbitten throat, Brother Sequoia shot Andros a questioning look. "There are four of us... they are a full guild of trained assassins. Did I hear that right?" "Yep." "Well then," the druid continued. "I fail to see the logic. We would need the mountain itself to rise up against them, and it would take our entire Order to even come close! And that's with magic, and I'm the only non-Necromancy spellcaster of any kind here!" "I agree... it seems like a long-shot." Cyrus said, somewhat non-plussed by Andros's enthusiasm. "Long-shot doesn't do it justice." Caecus chimed in. "With such a major conflict on the horizon, how can we hope to try and stop them alone?" "It's very simple..." Andros began. "Neither we nor the Guild know the way to Órloki, so we are nearly even on that level. However, there's something more important than that..." "And that would be?" Cyrus asked, not quite convinced yet. "Well, the Guild has always focused on competition. Thus, it's kind of hard for them to work in a group. However, we have already learned how to do this rather effectively, so we've got an advantage." Andros concluded with a flourish. "Right." Brother Sequoia said, sarcasm evident in his voice. "So, refresh my memory. How many times have we almost killed someone traveling with us so far?" OoC: Sorry about the wait, I was waiting to see if Zephyr would post something slightly more useful to the story than this is bound to be. Let me know if I'm out of character (anyone's character). IC: The sight of the child had cheered Brother Sequoia up a bit. That is, until Andros mentioned the Blademasters' Guild assassins. "That was kind of you to lie to the girl," the druid said quietly, rising to his feet and putting his flagon down. "Well, what choice did I have? Her father is probably dead..." he ended in a whisper, glancing around to make sure the child had indeed left. Satisfied, he left the room to find Caecus and Cyrus. Taking one last look out at the strange city, Brother Sequoia followed him. They found Cyrus in the entrance hall, sitting in what must have been an uncomfortable chair (though any chair would be while wearing plate mail). His left arm wasn't attached as strongly as it could've been, Brother Sequoia noticed. "Where's Caecus?" Andros asked. "I'm not sure. I guess he had business in the village, but he was being rather quiet about it." the skeleton answered. In any case, Caecus chose that exact moment to walk back in the door. He immediately turned to Andros and began shouting. "What evil have you brought to my village?" Andros looked mortified. "I had no idea they would follow me this far... " "The village's elders told me of a band of bladesmen dressed like yourself, who passed through Verwey a few days ago. The elders sent out a few warriors to deal with them, and only one of them returned! You lured them here!" Caecus was nearly screaming now. Brother Sequoia could've sworn he heard someone (or something... it had been a strange trip thus far) whisper "kill him now," but decided that the wine had just been too strong. Andros was getting a little aggravated now. "I told you, I didn't think they would find me here!" Caecus bellowed back, "What earned you their hatred? And why would they kill my people?" Cyrus stood up to separate the two, but Brother Sequoia broke in first. Sick of all the fighting that had filled the past two days, something had finally snapped in the druid. His calm demeanor momentarily forgotten, he leapt between Caecus and Andros, brandishing his staff (which was now glowing a fierce, deep crimson), and shouted, "Caecus, calm down, Andros explain. NOW!" OoC: So, if I accidentally went out of someone else's character, I went out of mine to compensate. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. OoC: So, this group is just Sequoia, Caecus and Andros, right? Are we taking Cyrus with us? IC: Brother Sequoia and Andros each grabbed a flagon of something (neither paid much attention to the label) and crossed the hall to the noticeably warmer room. Very, very unnatural... the druid thought, slightly creeped out by the strange buildings. He had tried to convince himself that it was glass, or quartz, or maybe crystal, but it seemed too arcane. Downing half of the drink (which turned out to be some rather well-aged wine), he sat down in a chair overlooking the village, leaning his staff against the wall. And it's only going to get stranger, I'm sure. "What do you make of all this?" Andros asked, not taking his eyes off the strange sight that was Verwey. "It's very, very unusual. I'm honestly not sure how the people down here survive." "They managed in Avernum." the archer said, watching a group of priests in the middle of the town. He hadn't drank a drop of his flagon yet. "True... I just don't know what to think about it all." Sequoia muttered, lapsing into silence.
