Everybody seems to like the mystery woman (called Ekanda) except that she's pushing things a bit. I've cut the graphic off roughly at the navel, I believe that makes it more acceptable, what do you think? #2 will be dropped and replaced. #6 is under consideration since it could really use a background instead of just smoke. Omelette -> Yes, #1 is trimmed and cropped a bit. It does show but not to a point where it really bothers me. Imban -> Apologies for my lack of knowledge of slang  anyway if a picture'owns' I assume that is a good thing? #7 is, well, evil. That might work, but it would not be fair to the artist if I modified their work (not to mention illegal, and also there's the fact that I'm a rather poor artist myself so would probably bungle it). Best I can do is cut off the bottom third or so, that would make it less offensive I'm sure. Once again thanks for the feedback. I think it would be best to remove the first picture (or maybe cut off the lower parts or something). I believe it would be best to not offend people (such as concerned parents). I agree that (near-) nudity sells, but if I were to go that way I'd put in a lot more and start with the title screen instead of a hero picture that first-time players are unlikely to see. The second one concerns less people but it is considered low-quality by most. Which is also a reason to remove it. I'm afraid there will be some low-quality art in the game considering I'm working on a zero budget here. Would it be a good idea if I post some more art here and let people comment as to its quality? If at least the worst pictures could be replaced that would help a lot. I read a set of similar questions once, where the given sequence was along the lines of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and the next number was not 6 for whatever reason. Some of them were quite ingenious. My co-designer and balance tester replies the following (to Omlette's post) 1.This is actually bad for balance; it means a monastery either yields 30 research per turn (stacking six priests in there) or nothing (if you don't bother making priests). Six priests aren't too easy to kill for your enemies, either. This actually would decrease variety in the game. 2) You have point, this is not very clear at all times. However this is intentional; a ruler doesn't have all data neatly quantified. Also showing it means people will start checking their cities every turn to see if they're being ghosted. (a ghost is a special unit that decreases happiness in nearby cities). 3) Again, bad for balance. If I happen to have a Leyline nearby, then all my spells become more powerful. Actually 7 mana is worth quite a lot. 4) Story events are nice. Items are a bit doubtful. If they just boost a single unit, they're basically the same as an enchantment (Might of Giants, for instance). If they're only boosting heroes (like in most games), then they're boosting something that can already boost itself to a very high power level. 5) I disagree. It takes fifty turns for a unit to become rank-two by doing nothing (which implies training, of course). Of course putting a Castle or Arena Arcana in your cities helps. However adding skills at higher levels sounds like fun. (Radiant: Okay, most units now gain an additional skill at rank three). Okay, thanks everybody for your reply. I don't think the game will be played by anyone aged twelve or below because of its complexity. And most people don't seem to mind. Troubled queen -> There are a dozen different images you can pick for your own wizard, and roughly half of these are male. (the reason I say roughly is that one of them is a skeleton. How's that for nudity, bare to the bones! )BrTarolg -> Well, Civ was a source of inspiration. However there are many new things in Leylines such as the variety of spells and units such as the ballistae. Omlette & Arancaytar -> Now that you mention it the faerie from the Target screen is naked. Actually one of the wizard pics is rather revealing too. Hi there, Something came up during beta-testing of Leylines (a strategy game written by Crystal Shard). The question is whether some of the artwork used in the game is really appropriate, or maybe that it could offend some people. I would appreciate some people's feedback on this. Omlette -> Well, okay, the enchantress does have a certain lack of clothing. But I didn't find that picture particularly erotic or offensive. But then that's me (and I'm Dutch). So I'll ask around what people think. 1) true, that would be more logical. However it would be a bit annoying for the players. The reasoning behind the current setup is, that there are miners in a mine and scholars in a monastery, you just have to establish your presence there so they actually work for you. (it used to be just militant units to establish your presence but that, too, proved annoying for some testers; also it's unbalancing as the elves lack low-tech militant units). 2) Happiness goes up when 1) you throw a festival, 2) you win a battle near the city, and 3) you complete a building (oh, and 4) the peace monoliths) I'll add that to the FAQ. Happiness goes down otherwise, and moreso if you have too many militant units nearby or you levy a lot. In general happiness slowly erodes and you have to make an active effort to raise it. In small cities you can just as easily hold festivals, that would work in keeping them happy. However I agree that really small cities shouldn't desert you too easily. 3) that was clear, however see (1) for the problems with camping apprentices on a Leyline. They could make spells more powerful - however for some spells that doesn't really make sense (although I could give a skeleton more hitpoints or anything). Hm, i'll think about it, power levels would be nice actually. 4) This can sort of be done with the scripting language. Which still needs to be simplified, I know. Items where dropped from the to-do list as they are too complex for what they're worth (and tend to degenerate balance in most games). 5) I guess I could go up to five levels (even if it's hard to think of cool names at higher levels). But level-three units are really powerful already. MW -> True. But if you stick a skel on there, the resource is easily captured by an enemy. Which can lead to such boring puzzles as 3, 3, 5, 4, 4, 3, 5, ... (along the same lines of 'there are three words in english that end in -gry') Khoth -> You have an interesting way of selecting X and Y coordinates. Okay, how about this one. X squared equals X + X + X + X ... (for a total of X terms). (for instance 5 squared = 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5) If we take the derivative over X on both sides. X^2 derived = 2 X X derived = 1 So we get the equation 2 X = 1 + 1 + 1 + ... X = X (obvious truth) X^2 = X^2 (slight modification of obvious truth) X^2 - X^2 = X^2 - X^2 (another slight modification) Now we know that we can simplify the above in different ways. In particular, A^2 - B^2 = (A + B) * (A - B) gives the right part.
