Oh, that's the easy part. Move the yellow block until it's two squares above the key (so you can pass through) then use shift+down to grab it from one square away. That was explained in one of the later tutorials and is a very useful skill.

Very well.
Room 1 and 3 usually don't give people much trouble.
Room 2, do not pick up the ruby! Instead, go left, then down (using the rock as cover), then right, then let the ruby fall down.
Room 4, you have to clone several objects in succession. E.g. move red key over cloner, duplicate it a couple of times, remove key and put the green key over the cloner, repeat
Room 5, cross as little ! signs as possible.

You sure you want a spoiler? Cause they're not called spoilers for nothing.

And by the way, hello.

There is still going to be the contest, as always. I have received thirteen levels up to now, most of them by Gemma and Stew Boy. Since I always enjoy playing other people's levels, everyone is welcome to send in more.

Gemma -> did you get my mail with the Eye Queue attached? Hope you got it to work.

No it doesn't, it says the game is $25.00 (which is outdated by a year and a half, at least).

Look, it's very simple. SubTerra is going to be a free download if and only if I can find a prominent server such as HOTU that will host it.

HOTU hosted SubTerra for a couple of weeks and then dropped it for reasons unknown to me (I've asked the owner but got no response, maybe if someone else asks as well we would get an answer). I assume that several other sites got the data from HOTU, which is exactly the kind of publicity I'd like.

Okay,
check the links at the top of the forum. The Crystal Shard webpage is back on-line, as is the download link for additional level sets.
Because of bandwidth issues, I cannot actually host the ST executables there. Sorry about that.

To send me levels for the contest this year, drop me a PM (or, most of the common contributors already know my e-mail)

Well, why don't you go to The Underdogs and ask them to please host it again. They have no problems with bandwidth, so that could hardly be the reason.

Virtually all high-profile sites actually host games themselves, and don't use links to off-site people. If I were to put it on Micael's page, I would have to be convinced first that HE doesn't have bandwidth restrictions (because most personal pages do) and that he would be sticking around for the next five years at least. That's why I want a high-profile site.

No, that's exactly the point. I don't currently /have/ a website (and please don't go recommending free ones, I'm well aware of that and most have serious bandwidth restrictions) and Spiderweb no longer officially supports SubTerra since they're focusing on RPGs.

The thing is that I love this game after all these years, and I want it to be spread across the world somehow. That's what I'm trying to accomplish. And putting it on some backwater site with a link here (which quite frankly is not a heavily crowded forum, even if they're very nice people here) just won't cut it.

Like I said, if I put it anywhere I want it on a well-known gaming site, otherwise nobody would be able to find it.

Simply put, website trouble. I'll let you know when I have it fixed. In the meantime, maybe one of the other users could be kind enough to mail you the relevant files?

Given the internal logics of SubTerra, that's not actually possible. It is (remotely) possible that there's still a freeze bug in ST after all these years, but that should be in one specific level only (in which case alt-tabbing wouldn't solve it either).

Have you tried running DXDIAG?

The game generates a new code on every computer. So I can't give out 'the key' because there is no 'the key'.
Also the game is over 6 megs in size, so AOL and Geocities and stuff don't cover it. I want a good host for it.

Well, I was considering making it freeware since Spiderweb decided to focus on their core business (e.g. Jeff's RPGs, since distributing other peoples' games didn't turn out too well).
However, it appears that HOTU doesn't want to host it. That's a shame, since my own webpage isn't particularly stable (nor has it high enough bandwidth).

Hi there,

I'm having some site problems over at crystalshard, but you can still mail me levels for ST1 and ST2 (and yes, there will be a 2004 contest)

I've always found Symmetry a brilliant design, plus I like Factory Floor since it's the first level I ever received and it's very well made, and if I may nominate one of my own levels, then Rooms of Confusion has always made me proud.

I have several funky-sounding MIDI tunes that I'm allowed to use, because the calm ST1 music didn't appeal to many people. Sound effects will be on par with ST1, e.g. anything I can find on the web sound resources.
