When I run Subterra and play a level, it freezes. I alt-tab out and back in, and it is working. Then, after a few seconds, it freezes again. And so on. Why? Also I would like to repeat what I said in a previous topic: The links to extra levels etc don't work, since crystal shard site seems to have changed. And I can't get the extra levels (third design contest levels etc) [ Monday, September 20, 2004 01:46: Message edited by: The Stew Boy ] Posts: 587 | Registered: Tuesday, April 1 2003 08:00 |

Is that any level, or one specific one? -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! Posts: 2314 | Registered: Tuesday, January 15 2002 08:00 |

At first it was just with one level, but it was like that in the editor. However, it doesn't seem to be happening anymore. Posts: 587 | Registered: Tuesday, April 1 2003 08:00 |

Strange. If it stopped happening, it's most likely something to do with your windows setup? -------------------- Pieter Simoons, aka Radiant Official Crystal Shard and SubTerra webpage Posts: 798 | Registered: Monday, December 17 2001 08:00 |

It's happening again. I think what is going on is that when a level has lots of moving objects, my computer can't cope with them all moving at once, so it freezes. But this only seems to happen once in a while, so maybe I'm wrong. Posts: 587 | Registered: Tuesday, April 1 2003 08:00 |

Given the internal logics of SubTerra, that's not actually possible. It is (remotely) possible that there's still a freeze bug in ST after all these years, but that should be in one specific level only (in which case alt-tabbing wouldn't solve it either). Have you tried running DXDIAG? -------------------- Pieter Simoons, aka Radiant Official Crystal Shard and SubTerra webpage Posts: 798 | Registered: Monday, December 17 2001 08:00 |

Click the Start button, click Run, type in Dxdiag, and click OK. You should get a window with a series of tabe at the top: go through all of them, running all the relevant tests, and post the results. If none of the tests finds a problem, we've probably encountered a bug in ST; otherwise, the issue is probably with your computer. -E- -------------------- Let them eat cake! While we're on the topic of bugs, I've found a strange thing: You know how, when you clone dirt, it moves on motion fields? Consider this diagram: +WD-V ^<<<< + is the trigger W is wall D is dirt - is the cloner <^V are motion fields. 1. Player steps on trigger, then moves off. 2. Dirt goes on motion fields, and onto trigger. 3. 2nd dirt gets cloned, goes on motion fields and stops at last one because its blocked, but trigger is activated again . 4. 3rd dirt goes on motion fields and stops. Cloner stops. 5. Player steps up to dirt on trigger and can't take it . 6. Player moves away; trigger is activated again and so on. Note that this works with 2nd piece of dirt as well. That's a feature, actually. It's a consistency issue. -------------------- Pieter Simoons, aka Radiant Official Crystal Shard and SubTerra webpage Posts: 798 | Registered: Monday, December 17 2001 08:00 |

Consistency issue? And also, while I was making a level with ST, like once before, the player was able to walk off the screen and past the 'barrier wall' that surrounds small levels. Flowstone also did this. I pressed escape, space, and the game quit. I then started up the game again, made a replica of the small level, and it didn't happen. And not only that, in the master object list, it says that lasers activate mover buttons. They don't. Strange thing: PPPPPPPPPMW P=player (multiple players) M=marble W=wall When players walk onto marble, they all go onto the marble i.e. there is only one player visible on the marble! When they walk off, they do it one by one. A bug, or deliberate? NB. I tried it four times and it still happened, so its not a 'freak bug'. I I I I I I I I I I >>>>>>>>>>> XXXXXXXXXXX I = up cloner > = horizontal box X = explosive If you've got someone continually pushing 'clone all': When player presses trigger, explosives explode, horizontal boxes explode, then up cloners explode with no 9x9 explosion graphic. They then either disappear, or change into horizontal box! Incidentally horizontal boxes can't be cloned at all, and vertical boxes can't be cloned horizontally. Vertical boxes can't be cloned horizontally because that would be moving them horizontally. :P -------------------- -ben4808 Posts: 3360 | Registered: Friday, June 25 2004 07:00 |
