Which means, if it wasn't clear, that you should check back in a few months when Nethergate v2.0 is released if you find that you liked Nethergate v1.0.

I will grant that the number of dead is not equal. However, the number of American dead in WWII was pretty insignificant compared to, say, the Civil War, and we still remember WWII as a major war on the same level.

Second, we lost Vietnam, horribly. Even though the goals in Iraq are kind of shadey and quite possibly non-existent, I wouldn't see it as a loss if we left tomorrow, at least, not a loss like Vietnam was.
Er, I'm not sure how you're defining a "loss." Vietnam was not a military defeat; it was a PR defeat. The American public soured on the war, and that's why we left, but our military was not defeated by any stretch of the imagination.

The Iraq War likewise has not been a military defeat, but it has been a PR disaster. How is it different?

On the other hand, we have yet to see the results. If Iraq ends up like South Korea, we might look back on Bush as a hero, nauseating as the thought may be.
Um, is Truman a hero because of the Korean War? Not according to anyone I've ever talked to.

I don't think that the Iraq War will be a footnote in history the way that the intervention in Kosovo will be. I suspect that the by-now old joke, "'Iraq' is Arabic for 'Vietnam,'" is a pretty accurate description of how it will be remembered.

I think it will be remembered because it has been the most significant military involvement that the United States has had in thirty years, and it has received quite a bit of press over the past few years. I think it will also be remembered as a sham war on phony premises that accomplished nothing.

Most English classes in middle school and high school and virtually all college classes (at least at the schools that I've been in) have had a lecture defining and strongly denouncing plagiarism near the beginning of class or around the time that the first essay or major homework assignment was due, so yeah, the word has a pretty strong stigma.

Mind you, this country exists in a region known for religious fanaticism and a hatred of Israel. Do the benefits of nuclear power in Iran outweigh the risks of possible WMDs?
I see that you've bought in to the doctrine of pre-emption. The first necessary step to repairing the damage done by the Bush administration is to repudiate pre-emption as the complete and utter garbage that it is. You can't invade a country for what you think its leaders might secretly want to do. You can only invade a country on the basis of a clear and immediate threat that definitely exists.

Iran, by the way, is good example of the disasters that can follow unnecessary meddling. Oppressive government and worsening extremism over the past fifty-four years are a direct result of intervention by the U.S. Ask an Iranian about Mossadegh, the Shah, and the Islamic Revolution sometime (the history of Iran from about 1950 to about 1980), and you'll get an earful. We screwed up big-time.

That's low, because the comparison doesn't match and you know it.

Um, for the record, there was a time when the import feature worked. Both TM and I can attest to that. I haven't tried it recently, but it worked at one point.

And by "worked," I mean "sucked," but nonetheless functioned. :P

Favorite Artist(s): Guns N' Roses, Green Day, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Iron Maiden, Pink Floyd, Stabbing Westward, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, Rhapsody of Fire, Kamelot
General Time Frame: er, '60s to now, roughly
Favorite Genre: hard rock and heavy metal, and right now I have a particular fondness for power metal, especially Kamelot, Rhapsody of Fire, Helloween, and Lizzy Borden.

I also like the electric organ subgenre in the late '60s, most notably defined by the Doors but also shared by Iron Butterfly ("In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida") and the lesser-known Arthur Brown. Anyone know of other bands from that genre?

Er, "cling."

This is what I don't get about upon mars's mis-spellings: sometimes they're obvious typos, which is fine, and sometimes they're mis-spellings due to pronunciation (like "idear," I'm guessing), but sometimes they're not at all. No one pronounces "cling" like "kiln" that I'm aware of, nor could one be a typing mistake for the other, nor do they particularly look alike so as to be confused with one another.

So how do they happen?
