Oh, right, species. The slimes are set to species 10 (slime/plant), so that can't be the source of the problem. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. quote:No, they're not. To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to make anything immune to webbing, and the slimes certainly are not, because the hint file documents what I actually did, and the hint files says that Bind Foe is effective against them. There's nothing wrong with the code, but there's so much wrong with BoA (apparently) that it's hard to know what the problem is. Note that you have to cast Bind Foe at least two or three times before you should notice any effect. Let me know if you cast it four or five times on a creature and it can still move; if so, something's wrong. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. If Americans had any idea the ethnic and cultural make-up of the Middle East, we might be a lot better off right now. I mean, everyone over there is just a Muslim Arab in an Islamic government, right? What do you mean, "at least four problems" with that statement? -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. (I hate to borrow a line of reasoning from the movie Dogma, but it's the plainest articulation of the idea that I've heard.) There's a difference between having an idea and having a belief. I have a lot of ideas that I think are true, but I try to bear in mind how certain I am of different things. For instance, I'm pretty sure about universal gravitation, because I know enough about the evidence that there's not much reason to doubt. (And I'm not getting into GR or quantum gravity, here.) I'm a whole heck of a lot less sure of my ideas about what would be best for the U.S. economy, not only because I don't know a lot about economics, but also because the evidence for such things is not terribly complete or convincing. A belief, at least by this definition, suggests 100% certainty. You believe, and that's not going to change on the basis of evidence. An idea is more likely to get revised as you learn more. Along these lines, I heard a lecture from a religious fundamentalist who objected to being criticized for being so sure that he was right, and he asked, basically, if people were saying that he should think that he was wrong. People chuckled, and it was a great rhetorical gesture, but it utterly missed the point: the alternative to believing that you are right is not believing that you are wrong, but allowing for the possibility that you are wrong. Or, as the philosopher Chris Rock put it, "You can change an idea. Changing a belief is trickier." Some atheists believe (in this sense) that there is no god of any kind. Some try to live without belief entirely, which is rather different, obviously. I am of the latter sort. Thus, speaking about my religious "beliefs" raises certain difficult issues of terminology before we even get to what my opinions are. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Yeah, that was during a time when I wasn't even able to look at BoA stuff, so it just got lost in the shuffle. Okay, Turtle, here's what you do to fix the spell. Go into the folder called "Exodus." Open the document "exodus.txt" (or possibly just "exodus" if you don't have the extensions visible). Find this bit of text in it: Change this line: next_state = 24; to this: next_state = 23; While you're at it, in the next state (a few lines down), find this line: next_state = 25; and change it to this: next_state = 24; Let me know if that fixes Capture Soul and Recall Soul. If so, I'll upload the fixed version to my website.[ Monday, January 28, 2008 09:09: Message edited by: Kelandon ] -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Bind Foe should really put a stop to them. If you cast it two or three times on anything, that thing should be out for a long while. I don't have any idea why that wouldn't work. Nioca, if you e-mailed me about a problem with Capture Soul, it must have been at a time when I wasn't able to maintain Exodus at all, because I don't remember even attempting to do something about it (and, frustratingly, I can't find the e-mail now). I used Capture Soul a lot during my various play-throughs, and I never had trouble with it, so I have no idea (none) why it would be acting up like this. The code is really straightforward. If you could do me a favor, I might be able to figure out something. Use Capture Soul, and tell me if you get the dialogue about putting the creature in a particular slot (1-4). If so, put it in slot 1, and then insert the following code in the scenario script's START_STATE: print_num(get_flag(294,1)); Load your save file and tell me what number prints when you walk around and after you try to capture something's soul.-------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. By the way, a phrase like "socialist medical care system" is rather vague; if you want to describe specifically the system in Canada or the UK, use a term like "single-payer system." Compared to the U.S.'s health care system, nearly every system in the developed world is socialist. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. quote:I think most designers use the "version" field in the editor. However, checking it requires actually opening the scenario in the editor and looking at "Basic Scenario Details" in the Scenario menu, which is not very player-friendly. If I could once and for all get rid of the two or three Unhandled Exceptions that semi-regularly occur, I'd be very happy. Unfortunately, this requires access to BoA-Windows, and I don't have that at the moment. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Quick checking suggests that probably you just need to open the scenario with the scenario editor, go to the Scenario menu, select the option "Set Variable Town Entry", and change the first row of entries from "21 100 0" to look like the others, "-1 0 0". -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens.
