You could get A1 then. Eh, that's kind of a toss-up, A1 or BoA. Probably BoA if you have the patience to wait a little bit as new scenarios come out.

EDIT: You're cute when you're nervous. :)

In A3, there's an option in the Character Editor to cure the addiction. I think in E3, you're pretty much stuck with the consequences of your actions, though. (That is, unless "Remove bad conditions" does this. I've never tried it.)

There is a secret passage. Go to the far northeastern part of the gremlin area and search the western wall. You'll find a portal.

Er, and if you want a map, this will show you (although it contains mucho spoilers).

Hmm. For anyone who's lazy, from the RSV because I don't have a KJV handy:

"There shall not be found among you any one who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, any one who practices divination, a soothsayer, or an augur, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a medium, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord; and because of these abominable practices the Lord your God is driving them out before you." (Deuteronomy 18:10-12)

"The Lord tests the righteous and the wicked, and his soul hates him that loves violence." (Psalms 11:5)

No magic and no violence... I think that still leaves The Election okay, among the few that I've played. Surely there are more puzzle-based scenarios.

Well, I think the time is right. We have a handful of short scenarios (RoR, BS, TCoNR, EM, DaC), and a slightly longer one (APF) coming out pretty soon, as it is in the later stages of beta judging by the recent posts. I strongly suspect we'll see another beta call within a week or so. And after that, we may see a continuous flow of one or two scenarios per month.

Eh, I should know this but I don't: what other SW games do you have (other than, obviously, BoE)?

Well, ben, there are only a limited number of people in that article, and really only one of them is quoted extensively by the reporter.

Anyway, Schrodinger, that sounds pretty awesome. Congrats and good luck with future groundbreaking experiments! I think astrobiology is pretty cool.

Reading over this reminded me of the discussion we had in another thread starting around, oh, here. If you want a scenario with no magic or demons, we can surely find a good handful.

EDIT: The Anama Contest (or whatever one would call it) is starting to sound more appealing now.

I meant at the right height. If you can walk on them, then they're fine.

I really have no idea why they're not working at this point. If you've followed all those steps, then it should work. Someone else may have an idea, though.

The interesting tale of a birthday topic... pr0n, cats, fundamentalism... this one got the works.

Uh, then I'm pretty baffled. All you should need to do is:
Have a properly formatted scenario, scenario script, and folder (made automatically by the editor, so probably not the problem)Have a properly formatted town script in the same folderHave the appropriate state in that script (state 12, in this case)Put a blue special encounter rectangle on the appropriate spot in the terrainTell BoA which script to use for the town in the Town Details menu itemSave all the preceding items (save the scenario, text files, etc)Enter that scenario using the BoA app -- it may help to start over fresh if you've made a significant change since the last time you entered the scenStep on the spot with a PCAt that point, the script state should run. I'm thinking the problem may be with the last step... is the terrain blocked in some way? Are your stairs on the proper level? Can you actually step on this space?

Have you gone to Town Details and set the town script under Advanced Details? Is the town script in the same folder as the scenario's .bas file?

Okay, so have you placed the special encounter rectangle and set it to state 12? Does town 4 exist? Do you get any error messages at any point?

"An outdoor town" is an oxymoron. Are you trying to move to an outdoor section or a town?

Ah, yes, this is slightly harder. Don't put two state 11's, first of all. Copy and paste and change the second state to state 12 if you want a second state that does basically the same thing as the first. From that point you can change the move_to_new_town call or whatever.

However, there is no call to take the party directly outdoors, which appears to be what you're trying to do. As far as I know, the only way to go from town to outdoors is to walk outside the town boundaries. You can get around this in a couple of ways, the most obvious of which is to have the stairs lead to a cave exit town (basically just a very small cave with the town boundaries right outside), so that the party can walk out from there. In that case, you'd just have another move_to_new_town in state 12 taking the party to the correct location in the new town -- copy, paste, and all you have to do is change the arguments (the stuf inside the parentheses).

Exile pretty much is the same thing as Avernum. The spell system is a little different and the graphics are different, but, well, yeah, this page describes it in some detail.

EDIT: Roughly same time as FBM. Yeah.

Ah, right. It wants your town script to have the normal INIT_STATE. Try this:
begintownscript;
variables;
body;
beginstate INIT_STATE;
break;
beginstate EXIT_STATE;
break;
beginstate START_STATE;
break;
beginstate 11;
move_to_new_town(2,16,24);
break;

Bug list and suggestions in Blades of Avernum
Off With Their Heads
Member # 4045

The most irritating part about the ending combat bug is that one can enter combat, leave it immediately, and be one space in front of where one was before. In this manner, one can skip over any number of special encounter rectangles without any difficulty at all. It was at least challenging in A1 to invade the Strange Cave (using Silver's method). In BoA, it wouldn't be hard at all.

I made a scenario demonstrating a few bugs and sent it off to Jeff. The most interesting ones involve beams working in really funky ways in close quarters. For instance: set up a projector with a source next to it, so that it's on. Put a mirror directly in front of it with no intervening space. The projector doesn't shoot.

Now remove that mirror but place one in the INIT_STATE of that town's script. Put a wall blocking the direction that the beam will shoot coming from the mirror. Make sure it's in the same square as the placed mirror (which is why it has to be an object and not be a terrain). It blocks the beam, right? Now stick something that can crumble in the space next to the wall. It crumbles. Oops.

I showed Jeff this and his response was something along the lines of, "The beam code was really, really complicated and I'm afraid that any change I make that fixes a bug will then create two more bugs."

Sigh.
