As long as we're on the subject, what does =^.^= mean? To me it looks like a cat, but that's probably just my weird animal-loving ways. -------------------- If anyone ever asks you why you did something, say "Because I could". Posts: 834 | Registered: Thursday, July 8 2004 07:00 |

Oh JESUS ben. Enough people have said it was a cat, just accept it as a cat, ight? That is like someone posting ;_; and you asking what it is, thirty people saying it is a crying face and you saying, "But are you SURE? I mean it could be a goth jagot with tendencies towards self-harm so that blood runs out of its eyes, now couldn't it?" Keep in mind that before I thought twice, "goth jagot with tendencies towards self-harm so that blood runs out of its eyes" was a rather worse example. Be happy. Hello. I'd like to take this opporutunity to clear up some of the controversy surrounding my popular "emote", which will henceforth be known as "=^.^=". Never mind that that symbol is not pronouncable by any known sentient form of life. There's been some confusion about what exactly this symbol is supposed to mean. Every day, I'm overwhelmed with hundreds of emails about this subject. Today I'd like to provide some reassurance that this misunderstanding will be resolved. This symbol, "=^.^=", does indeed represent a cat-like face. However, due to the limitations of the ASCII that goes into creating "=^.^=", I've had to improvise many of my other faces. For example, I have no easy equivalent to " :P ". Here's a guide to what I've figured out so far... =^.^= - Represents good-natured joking, happiness, being in a good mood, etc. =^.^=; - Embarrassment, awkwardness, inability to find a way to respond to what was just said. Also used as an equivalent to " :P " occasionally when replying. =o.o= - "Weirded out!" Or else a hypnotized or zombified cat-face, or one in shock. =O.o= - Pretty much just an equivalent to O.o. Some of these are easier to adapt than others. =@.@= - This one also has to take the place of a lot of the other, non-feline emotes. It's either being freaked out, confused, or saying "I'm gonna be sick". I encourage you to use context to figure this one out. =^.^= Suggestions for additional faces are welcome here as well. =^.^= -------------------- Digital Neko - more nekojin per capita than you can beat senseless! You probably got into this thread from a link containing a post number reference. Okay, I just need to get this out of my system. Then I'll wish you a late happy birthday again. Okay, here goes. Rosycat, why are you calling Ben and oh God? Sorry about that, I'm reading Terry Prachett and there's a character called the oh God of Hangovers. He's always unconscious. EDIT: Forgot to write this the first time. Happy Birthday. May you have many more years of whatever music you like playing with a frog(I don't know, whatever animal you want. Keep in mind that elephants are heavy.) sittiing on your head while you play a never-ending supply of Spiderweb Software(again, whatever you want) games that are falling through the hole in your celing(sp?). Thuryl, it's probably not a good thing to suggest porn to a minor. For a start 8/10 parents would biatch-slap you for suggesting it to impressionable youths. Then again the other 2/10 would probably agree with you strangely enough, so bleh, feh, meh. And it's only those with damnably dirty minds that would automatically interpret that in that particular tone. Yes, I'm looking at YOU. EDIT: Nico, this has absolutely nothing to do with Hogfather. [ Thursday, August 26, 2004 07:13: Message edited by: FatBatMonkey ] -------------------- Aut Tace Aut Loquere Meliora Silencio Posts: 1487 | Registered: Sunday, February 10 2002 08:00 |

I took it as the blaspheming at fundie ben. I'm sad. Evidently I'm too clean and pure to go to desperance. :( [ Thursday, August 26, 2004 10:17: Message edited by: Magic Hunter Gurrrrl ] -------------------- fame fame fatal fame it can play hideous tricks on the brain Posts: 407 | Registered: Friday, May 14 2004 07:00 |

quote:Hee hee hee. That's far more clever than what I was thinking. It might be, er, educational to watch a porn film. Something tasteful, like late-night Cinemax. The interesting tale of a birthday topic... pr0n, cats, fundamentalism... this one got the works. EDIT: And some would say that being clean and pure indicates a NEED to go to Desperance. Purity and innocence should be treasured and protected from the predations of, oh, 90% of Spiderweb. (The other 10% is composed of confused newbies.) And Desperance is like learning to swim by sudden immersion... in 50 molar hydrochloric acid. —Alorael, who means this in only the nicest possible way. He also must admit that "Oh GOD!" is a more frequent exclamation than "Oh JESUS!" in the context. Just his two cents of circumstantial evidence... Don't worry, everybody; I'm going to stay calm and not write a 5 paragraph rant on the inappropriateness (wow, 17 letter word) of that comment. Frankly, I've heard it many times before. -------------------- -ben4808 For those who love to spam: CSM Forums RIFQ Posts: 3360 | Registered: Friday, June 25 2004 07:00 |
